Best

I used to avoid The Flying Horse because nothing on the menu appealed to me. I would hang out in the upstairs bar from times to time for the live music and atmosphere on the weeke...

Worst

This place has excellent potential, especially since few Franklin restaurants have patio seating. The menu choices are excellent, the recipes were creative but flavors were a lit...

No Service won't FLY with this horse 4/23/2008

The food was okay we ordered from the bar menu and ate outside, the food was not terrible just okay the issue with this restaurant is the lack of wait service, just terribel it ruined the entire experience and our meal. Pros: Outdoor dinning Cons: absolutely no service what so ever more

The service is horrible and the food is below average (need to know anything else?) 4/19/2008

Lord knows I have given this place more chances than my Ex-Husband. At the end of the day the food ain't good and the service is less than average. The location is great, the outdoor dinning area is wonderful this place has soooo much potential, but what the heck, the food and service is a complete let down. We went there for my Husband's birthday, what a fisco that was, we could not get waited on, we have reservations and they were totally unprepared for a party of 20. Pros: Outdoor dinning, location Cons: lack of any service, friend cheap bar food, more

Wish this restaurant would fly away 7/25/2007

Let me preface this preview by stating that I visited the restaurant a few years ago. If it is under new management or has a new cook staff, this review is probably irrelevant. This restaurant was recommended to me by a colleague who had eaten there the previous week and described the food as delicious with good-sized portions. My experience was the complete opposite. This was the worst restaurant food I've ever tasted. It wasn't even mediocre- it was BAD. My husband described his burger as a piece of stadium meat sandwiched in between a flaky, 3-day old bun that you could find in the bargain basket at your local bakery. How can you mess up a burger?? I'm not sure if my ""salad"" even qualified as one- a few flimsy pieces of greens, a tablespoon of shredded carrots and one cherry tomato. I literally thought it was a joke. I think my artichoke soup was ok. The only good thing about this place was the location. Pros: Location Cons: Food is beyond bad! more

Nice Place to spend an adult Friday night. 3/21/2007

I will admit that the potential at the Flying Horse is not fully realized, but I had dinner there last Friday night with two other adults and we really enjoyed it. We all ate something diferent, and tasted each other's food. There was nothing at the table that we did not like. The food was fresh, and even the standard fare was prepared with a fresh flare that elevated it above the norm. The beer list was solid. I only had two problems with the experience: First, the server was overwhelmed, and we felt it a little bit in the begining, but to his credit it never showed in his face or voice. My other issue (which is very small) is that I had to ask for a glass to pour my bottled beer into. (this could have been a symptom of the server being overwhelmed) After dinner, we went upstairs to the Weathervane to watch some live music. It was a nice atmosphere without being too smoky. There, I didnt mind drinking the beer from the bottle. Great rooftop patio, and I am looking forward to coming back and enjoying it when the weather warms up. Pros: Fresh food, done with attention to detail. Cons: Service was not the greatest, but I've certainly had worse. more

Vermin Hotel 3/6/2007

Please tell me is this a restaurant or a rodent hotel. Lets not forget all the fruit flys. I worked in a restaurants through college and I understand the it can be hard to completly control all pests. However, there is obviously not effort being made at the Flying Horse. Pros: Location Cons: Sharing dinner with vermin more

New Menu, New Chef, New Experiences 10/29/2006

I used to avoid The Flying Horse because nothing on the menu appealed to me. I would hang out in the upstairs bar from times to time for the live music and atmosphere on the weekends. Now that they have completely revamped their menu I will definitely eat there more often and not just go for the drinks. The service was up to par with other fine dining establishments and my Hanger steak came to me cooked to perfection and tasting amazing with the cabernet reduction sauce and a side of brie and chive mashed potatoes. Definitely a place to go eat if you're around Franklin. There can be a wait at times on Friday and Saturday nights though so a reservation might be needed. Highly recommended. Pros: Parking, Menu, Alcohol Prices more

Flying Horse a flying Success!!!! 10/1/2006

I must say that after reading the very mixed reviews about the Flying Horse, I almost did not go there. I am so glad that I decided to give them a try. I went there with a date on a Friday evening. We had a wonderful time. The service was extremely attentive without being intrusive. The food was superb. I had the grilled salmon and it was cooked to perfection. I am very picky about my salmon so I am always impressed when the chef gets it right. My date said his meal was excellent also. I am sorry that I did not get the name of the female singer who was playing guitar and the entertainment for the evening, because I would love to hear her perform again. Pros: great food, superb service, wonderful entertainment Cons: we are going into the fall and winter months and it will be too cold on patio soon!!! more

Best place in town 8/30/2006

I don't know how anyone couldn't like this place. Food is great (try the stuffed pork loin and the hanger steak). The servers are friendly and in all my experiences service was not slow at all. Especially since they have to go up and down stairs all night. The bar tender on the patio is very friendly and drinks have been more that good every time I've been on the patio. Plus they have live music three nights a week. No place here in Franklin has that much live music. It has become my weekend hang out because it is a one stop entertainment shop right next to downtown Franklin. Can't beat the Flying Horse. Good food, good drinks, live music, and exceptional prices. Check it out. Pros: Great drink prices, good food, live music and an awsome patio Cons: I didn't think of it more

Service is sub-standard 7/22/2006

Great location, okay drinks, menu need updating, but the service is slow, non-responsive, and ruins your meal because you can't get a drink or food or the check. Pros: Ambience, parking, location Cons: Lack of Service, boring menu more

Fun Friday!! 6/14/2006

I loved The Flying Horse! The rooftop patio is fabulous and you can't find anything else like that in the area. The live music topped off with the great weather fit right in with my very tasty martini! My husband loved all their wine selctions too. People love this place...the whole patio was full. I've also had dinner there in their downstairs dining room with my kids. I had good service and my food didn't take long at all. We went to Mother's day brunch and the buffet was incredible. Prime rib, eggs benedict, pork tenderloin. We always have a good time at The Flying Horse. Definately give it a try. Summer is the best time to be there. Pros: Upstairs patio with live music more

Oh where oh where is my waiter 6/7/2006

If you can get service at this place you are lucky I would then suggest you start playing the Tennessee Lottery! You have a better chance of getting a cocktail at the Betty Ford Clinic then you do at this low end restaurant. The service is without saying the worst service I have ever had outside of a snack bar at Disney World. Keep your cash you would get a better meal out of a vending machine and the service would be better, atleast you would be getting what you paid for. The Flying Horse is not worth your time or money. Pros: Location, Ambience, parking Cons: Lack of Service, Poor food, Boring menu more

Just Plain Avoid 6/7/2006

How to sum up my personal experience: Pros: Location (outdoor seating) Cons: service, food, staff more

Bad food but the service is worst 6/4/2006

The service is beyond terrible, we arrive with reservations at 6:00 pm on a Friday night, the table was not ready. Once we were finally seated the waiter never came to offer drinks, water or anything. I had to get up three times to find a server, finally we flagged one down and ordered 1/2 of the food came out wrong, the food was cold and below average at best. I complained to the assistant manager who seemed shocked, everyone around us was complaining... too many good restaurants to bother eating here, the service is horrible, the food is below average and not worth your time Pros: atmosphere, outdoor patio Cons: lack of service, bad food, average drinks more

Nothing Special 3/12/2006

Went here with group of co-workers. I was hoping for something more... Something unique as this is not a chain restaurant. Dining experience was OK, food was OK, Service was OK. Nothing to write home about. Pros: menu selection more

Great for a family dinner or time with friends 9/28/2005

We have been to the flying horse many times. On one occasion we had bad service. We brought it to the attention of the manager, who was apologetic and asked to make it up to us. We declined and assured him we would be back, as we had always had good service in the past. Since, we have returned many times and have had great service and good food. It's a fun place to relax, listen to music and enjoy your companions. Pros: Atmosphere, variety, resonable more

Run away! 8/27/2005

went to flying horse for first time. Waitress told us that they were baking fresh bread and it would be available shortly. We are still waiting for them! i ordered the shrimp pasta and the shrimp literally smelled like a dumpster on a hot day. We told the waitress and she apologized but no one offered to do anything to rectify the situation. They brought the bill, charged us full price and we paid and left. We will not be back and we will be sure and tell everyone we come into contact with to take their business elsewhere. Its been about eight hours since the meal and my stomach still aches. this place sucks!!!!!!!!!!! Cons: bad food, bad service, not worth money more

a great family restaurant! 5/11/2005

We took the family to The Flying Horse for dinner last week, and it was great! We were seated promptly, had excellent service, and great food! the mushroom enchiladas were fabulous, as well as the pulled chicken sandwich and the carrot cake for dessert! The kids had thir own menu, and everyone was happy! Definately worth the trip and we will be back! Pros: atmosphere, service, food more

Great place for dining!! 5/11/2005

My fiancee and I recently dined at the Flying Horse restaurant. It was our first trip there, and I must say I was truly impressed. The menu had a variety of offerings so there was something to eat for everyone. Prices varied with each dish and were very reasonable. The atmosphere was very comfortable and highlighted with some great art pieces. We were sat immediately and greeted by our server quickly. All the staff seemed to be very friendly and knowledgeable and made us feel valued. My fiancee had a chicken dish while I had the ribs, both of which were very good. We also had an appetizer (potatoe wedges with cheese, bacon and sour cream) that was very good. They had some local brews on tap...which I of course couldn't resist. All in all, it was an excellent experience with very good food. We were very satisfied!! Pros: Service, Menu Selection, Pricing more

Great potential but just average 5/9/2005

This place has excellent potential, especially since few Franklin restaurants have patio seating. The menu choices are excellent, the recipes were creative but flavors were a little bland. For high-grade fare prices, the service and ambiance was well below average. They need to understand their wines - they need to pay extra close attention to detail. There are few incentives to spend $85 on a Monday night meal for four people. If they'd learn to make you feel they really want you back, they can succeed. Pros: Entree choices, novel recipes Cons: bland seasoning, poor service, wine knowledge more

Boring 4/15/2005

Bland food, adequate but less than cheerful service, zero atmosphere in the main dining area (inside). I like the outdoor atmosphere and upstairs bar, but the main dining room lacks ambience and the food was mediocre to unedible among the crowd I was with. Disappointing, especially since the price was in the medium-high range. Pros: Bar, Outdoor Seating, No wait Cons: Food, Atmosphere, Service more
