Best

food was delicious and prices were fair. i would definitely recommend Dali to anyone looking for great tapas!

Worst

highly overpriced. What you get is not worth what you pay! For large groups, make sure you meet elsewhere in advance. They will not seat you even if one is missing from 20. prefer...

Just simply fun 11/12/2006

Yes, it is dark, the portions are small, but it is just so much fun!! You walk in and instantly feel transported to another world. Go when it is busy (and it gets busy fast fast fast upon opening early every evening) since it has the most charm and buzz then (though you might wait awhile). Your food comes out pretty quickly I must say as they place dish after dish you've orderd on your table and the servers are definitely charming and fun. Not really quiet by any means, everyone is there to have some fun. Order some sangria, round up some great friends and family and you will have a blast. It's also a fun place to take a first date as there is definitely something to talk about when ordering. My family loves to go whenever they visit cambridge and it's definitely one of the gems in the cambridge area even if the masses have found out about it. It's still the same since i first went 4 years ago and i've been about 10 times since. It can get a little pricey, especially if ordering lots of tapas and the expensive pitchers of sangria, but worth it in the name of good company. Pros: fun date spot, quick service, consistent food Cons: sometimes noisy, no reservations for small groups more

AMAZING Tapas 9/27/2006

There are so many reasons to love Dali! The charming staff, the colorful and interesting decor, the fact that it's nestled in a seemingly unlikey spot between Union and Harvard. But let's face it, it's the inspired food that has everyone coming back. This week I had the chance to taste tapas from their autumnal menu (regularly rotating specials menu based on food that is in season) including delicious swordfish skewers. We also got classics from the main menu. Couple tips: get the white apparatus, the fried cheese with honey, scallops in saffron cream sauce and the paella. Culinary delights, trust me. The restaurant is great for dates or catching up with friends. A cozy, great escape from downtown Boston and worth the trip. Since they don't take reservations I suggest making early dinner plans and get there around 6:30/7ish. There usually isn't a wait at that time. Pros: Inspired Menu, Spirited Decor Cons: Long Waits more

Good food, horrible waits 9/17/2006

While I have no complaints about the food at Dali, the lack of reservations and incredibly long waits (even on a weeknight) makes it an impossible dining destination. Even on a Monday night, the wait was upwards of 45 minutes. The call ahead service is useless too as there was no wait upon calling and 45 minutes upon arriving (on a Monday night), even after leaving my name. This is the second time in a row that I experienced this situation. While I feel the food and atmosphere are good, there are other equally good dining destinations where the odds of getting a table are much more certain. Until the restaurant can offer some sort of reservation, it simply is not worth the effort. Pros: Interesting food, nice atmosphere Cons: No reservations, very long waits more

Don't cry for me, Sangria! 9/8/2006

The truth is I love this restaurant! The tapas, sangria, and atmosphere are the reason I keep coming back year after year- and I live in NJ! I love the lively and adorable servers- they know their stuff! The food is different and spectacular. I think the atmosphere is my fav though- it is like you are walking into a Dali painting! Funkadelic- or should I say...funk-a-DALIc! Pros: hands down- the best! more

Great Cambridge hype, not so hyped food 9/7/2006

Food was fair, service was fantastic. but for all the amazing things that I have heard, i was sorely disappointed. I will return, to try again, hopefully i will be proved wrong. Pros: service, location, date spot Cons: food more

One of the best restaurants I have been to 8/25/2006

I was introduced to Dali by a friend mine and I must say that I had a wonderful experience. The tapas were delicious. The service was personalized and very friendly. I recommend it to anyone who wants to go out on a romantic date and celebrate. They really go out of their way to make your birthday special. I will be back to this restaurant for sure Pros: everything more

One of our all-time favorites 7/4/2006

My husband and I have been to Dali countless times, and we love it. The atmoshere is festive and lively with gorgeous, creative and fun decor. The staff is always friendly and efficient. And the food -- wow. Our favorites are the pork tenderloin with blue cheese (to die for), the squid in its own ink, the garlic shrimp, the white asparagus, and the spanish cheese (out of this world). But I don't think we've ever had a bad dish there -- all dishes are creative and authentic with amazing depth of flavor. Don't forget to save some bread (or ask for more) to sop up all the sauces after you've finished the tapas. And also don't miss out on the Pescado a la Sal, one of their platos principales -- the fish is so tender if practically melts in your mouth. Pros: food, atmosphere Cons: the wait for a table is often very long more

The best Spanish around town 4/10/2006

Hands down, this is the most authentic Spanish restaurant around town. The food is delicious. There are abundant hot and cold tapas to choose from that are all terrific. I'd recommend the sizzling Shrimp Garlic, and the Scallops in Safron cream. The latter is absolutely out of this world. The paella is the best I've had in the U.S since my last trip to Spain. I've been to many tapas and Spanish places in Boston like Taberno de Haro and Tapeo and they are not in the same league as Dali. They are overpriced and service is below average. The service at Dali is impeccable. The servers are very friendly and knowledgeable. The price is just right. The decor is very cool. You'd feel like you're dinning in Toledo or Barcelona. An absolute must place to dine at. Pros: Food, Decor, Service more

Perfection Restaurantified 1/31/2006

Dali is amazing: the food is delectable, the staff and surroundings ooze with warmth, the cultural decor puts every other restaurant I've visited to shame and I've never had even a minor hiccup in service. The food and drink particularly, the Queso de Cabra Montañes, Vieiras al Azafrán and the Sangria are scrumptious. If I had the time and a warp-speed metabolism, I would be a daily fixture at this restaurant. Also, I have never had to wait as long as initially quoted at the door. Even so, this is a meal that is worth waiting for! Salud! Pros: Everything Cons: Not closer to my apt. more

Dali-cious! 12/7/2005

I love Dali! Ive been there 3 times and everytime has been a great experience. The food is outstanding and the staff are great. It can get very crowded at times but it is worth the wait. Highly recommended! more

I love Dali! 11/29/2005

Dali has the best tapas around Boston. Their food is absolutely the best. I also love their very friendly and entertaining staff. I hugely recommend this place to everyone! more

NO Vegan Food 10/12/2005

This pace is listed as a Vegan-friendly restaurant, but there is not a single vegan entree on the menu...one or two of the tappas MIGHT be vegan, but is probably cooked in butter, etc and the menu is not helpful in determining what is vegan-friendly...so whoever gave it that status on here has no clue what they are talking about. more

Awesome, but not the perfect date spot 5/11/2005

The food is incredible: very fresh ingredients in interesting combinations (the sauces are amazing and almost always a perfect accent to the dish). The atmosphere is nice although a bit dark for my tastes and the decor, while interesting, is a little overdone. A good date spot because of the excellent and interesting food, as well as the service. Pros: food, food, food Cons: medium to long waits more

Immensely Overrated 4/17/2005

A nice atmosphere, but the food was overpriced and disappointing. Charging $6 five tiny slices of chorizo that was less interesting than kielbasa has to be larceny. The quail stuffed with bacon was good, but I've had it done better at Solea and Tapeo, among others. Patatas bravas was fine, but could have been spiced just a bit more. I thought the squid in its own ink was good, but once again, just a little bit off in flavor. Bocarones were very good. The much hyped sangria was off, a B- at best. The portions are very small, and for Dali's prices, you expect much better. more

Great tapas 3/17/2005

Go here for some great tapas, but beware of the line, it can get extremely long. The sangria is really good too, but the variety of tapas that they have is excellent. Definitely get the Spanish omelette, but also try the mushrooms. more

Not so romantic 12/2/2004

Although this is a wonderful resturant with fabulous food and decor, it is not a place I would like to go for a romantic dinner. It is very crowded and noisy. My boyfriend and I went on a Friday night and could barely even speak to eachother it was so loud. It would be great for a group of people, but not for the romantic couple. Pros: Good Food, Lively atmosphere, Good Decor Cons: , Not good for romance, long wait on weekend more

Delicious 7/22/2004

The food, wine and service are excellent. The atmosphere is great. Probably the only thing to keep in mind is that the wait can be long, especially on Valentine's Day. Weekdays are less crowded. Pros: Excellent food, Great Atmosphere, Good wine more

Awesome 5/22/2004

That's the only word to describe this place. Over the years I have sampled every item on their menu and absolutely love all of it. The Garlic Soup is by far the one thing no one should miss. Pros: Food, Service, Quality more

Great for Vegetarians too!!! 12/9/2003

The question i always ask myself before going to a spanish restaurant is "will there be enough vegetarian options?" You can only eat so many patatas bravas and tortilla espanola in one sitting. Dali has more than a handful of optoins for vegetarians. One thing on the menu that caused some alarm was the delicious Sopa de Ajo (garlic soup). It tasted too good to not be made from chicken or beef broth. When i asked the waitress she confirmed it....it was vegetable stock. And i gobbled it all up! They have a great menu and the Sangria is the most authentic i've tasted in Boston so far. Pros: large menu, lots of wine, great atmosphere Cons: outside of city more

tordrey 8/7/2003

Absolutely one of the most consistent, fun restaurants in the city. My husband and I have taken out of town guest there several times and, without fail, have had wonderful food, friendly service and an all around great time. We go there each time hoping that it still meets our expectations and haven't been disappointed yet. Pros: romantic, atmospheric, great vibe Cons: no parking, no reservations more

Editorial
  • Few eateries are as romantic as Dali, with its copper ceilings, candles, fresh flowers and warm lighting to lead some patrons to refer to the restaurant as an aphrodisiac. Waiters ferry sherry, sangria and Spanish wines from the eclectic bar, where a diverse crowd passes the time. The kitchen churns out dependable interpretations of regional Spanish tapas such as garlic shrimp, chilled vinegary octopus, sauteed mushrooms and baked goat cheese from the menu of 40-plus tapas. Fish baked in salt and paella (prepared Valenciana or del Oceano) are customer-favorite entrees. Desserts range from classic flan to an ending of quince paste and Manchego cheese.
