OK

I wonder if any of those giving Daddy Dz rave reviews have ever had BBQ before. Their ribs are about as mediocre as it gets and way, way overpriced. I do like that picture of Dadd...

Editorial review from Citysearch 10/30/2012

Why is this place still open? Filthy (not funky - Dirty!), overpriced, sauce is like Heinz meets Liquid Smoke. Save your big bbq $$$s and go straight to Fox Bros or get some sho' nuff bbq cheap on Sylvan Rd. at D&D BBQ more

good bbq 7/2/2010

if you want to eat cheap, stick w/ the pulled pork, ribs are pricey but very good... you want to get the hot sauce, and then add some texas pete on it... they seem a bit short staffed sometimes more

$43 for two people???? 10/27/2008

Over the weekend I took a friend there for the first time. The ribs were OK, but for ribs with sides and two beers...$43????? Yikes - I won't be going back! more

saw a huge rodent 8/25/2008

i went there with some friends to see if Daddy D'z was better than Fatt Matts. I ordered the smoke turkey with potato wedges and macaroni and cheese. our food arrived and as we took our first bites we saw a HUGE R A T run inside the restaurant. the r a t knew where it was going so it was obviously used to going in and out of the place. that pretty much spoiled my appetite. and i'll be sticking with fatt matts from now on. more

Food is bad 6/7/2008

The food is the worst bbq I tasted in along time. The place is a shack ! If you like alot of bbq sauce this is not the place, & by the way, the sauce is bland. The food was lukewarm, and the corn bread was tasteless. I was very dissapointed with this place, especally with the reviews. They did not have any beef ribs for people who do not eat pork . I will not go back nor recommend this place. Pros: Service was good. I did not have to wait long for my food. Cons: Every thing else. more

Good food, building needs work 2/9/2008

I decided to give Daddy D'z a shot for a late lunch today. I hadn't eaten since the night prior, and it was about 4pm, so I was relatively hungry. Pros: Service, bbq pork Cons: Place looks like it's going to fall apart more

I wanted to love this place. The wings are great. 11/11/2007

Love the uniqueness of this place. The windows need washing. I had a pork sandwich which arrived on a cold bun with a large plop of BBQ sauce on it. I had cake for dessert and it was dry and old. Pros: Great wings. Nice service. Cons: Windows and decor could use a cleaning. more

NOt REAL BBQ 8/22/2007

Daddy D'z is a great looking place. It's divey and smells like a good BBQ place, but it is all just sweet and not really smokey at all. I have only been there a couple of times, so maybe I am not right, maybe they were just havin a couple of bad days, but it doesn't taste like the delicous BBQ I grew up with here in the south. Pros: Cool atmospere Cons: bad BBQ more

Best BBQ 1/12/2007

I lived in Atlanta in 2005 and once I discovered DD's, it would be fair to say that I took up a residency there before I left. If you can get over the less than attractive exterior, then you are in for a treat with this decidedly unpretentious BBQ shack. Pros: Friendly place, damn good bbqin' inside Cons: you might be put off at first sight of the place, but perservere more

Great Chicago Que & Blues! 10/30/2006

Forget about Fat M....or whatever, this place has it going on. Off Memorial Dr., near Grant Park, don't let the location scare you away. Small, funky, yes funky, fun, great blues, and some of the best Chicago style BBQ in the ATL. Ribs, are terrific, get the sauce on the side. Try the ""que-wraps"", bits of pork, wrapped in biscuit dough and deep fried. The sides are always perfect, and the cornbread, Oh Man! This place is low-down, funky and real. Pros: Best Chicago Style BBQ In ATL! Cons: Funky Area! more

This is the best BBQ ever. 9/5/2006

This place is so good. They have the best cornbread I have ever tasted and I love the jazz in the evenings! The portions are huge and the flavor is delicious! more

We loved the unpretentious environment. We simply enjoyed good old Southern BBQ with great sides & the music. Seating was comfortable. more

best ribs downtown 2/3/2005

Don't let the location or neighborhood scare you away. The sauce is a slightly sweet tomato base and the ribs must have had a salty rub before cooking. The ribs were a big hit with me. I had the Sampler Platter @ $9.99 which included 2 ribs, chopped pork, chopped beef, Que wraps, and one choice of a side. I opted for the hot sauce....and hot it was not. This place has NO atmosphere other than they serve excellent bbq (and it is served on styrofoam plates). The patrons are mostly blue collar mainstreamers and some families, even though it is in a predominately poor neighborhood. A blues band plays every Friday and Saturday nights on the deck.....be careful sitting out there, as it can be very loud. Note: a 15% gratuity is added to the bill of all who eat in after 5:00. more

Beats Matt's by a mile! 11/5/2003

Another dump I used to play in, but it was well worth it, for I was paid in ribs at the end of the night. The location is scary, but not terribly unsafe before sundown. The blues there also beats Matt's on the average. But, those ribs! Man, those things didn't need sauce to be tasty. I loved gnawing on those bones as I headed back to the hills after jamming on the porch all night. Pros: RIBS!!!, blues, did I mention ribs? Cons: location, parking, location (again) more

extra good 12/3/2002

The best BBQ in Atlanta, -period. Much better all around food than Fatt Matts. more

insiders' tip 11/27/2002

Go Tuesday evenings for great carrott cake. They are delivered on that day. This only adds to the pork bbq which is wonderful. The only negative that I have is that if you don't want to end up looking like a mad dog when you order ribs, get the sauce on the side. Live Jazz Friday at 9 pm. Pros: tasty, good staff, good parking Cons: exterior spooky more

Ribs fallen from heaven 11/26/2002

Daddy D's is perhaps a bit off the beaten path and doesnt look like much fom the outside, but inside you are assaulted pleasently with the endearing aroma of freshly cooked BBQ to die for. The ribs platter by far the main attraction, absolutely delicious. Weekend nights you can take in blues/jazz bands live as you enjoy a cold brew and the best BBQ in town..Thumbs up!! Pros: Economical, great food, great service Cons: lacking atmosphere, parking restricted, out of the way more

Real BBQ in Atlanta 11/14/2002

They serve collard greens and fried okra that will blow you away. How much more legit do you need to be. more

Great Q for you 11/11/2002

Daddy D'z was great for a lunch spot. The service was extremely quick and the food was excellent. I had the pulled pork sandwhich with the hot sauce (was not hot) and the waiter gave us each a free rib to try since it was our first time. This place is a must if you are down-town and want some ""Q"". Beats the pants off of Harold's. more

Not real Que 10/26/2002

Daddy ""D""s is just another place that rates because of the cliente. The pork is alright, but not that good as bar-be-que. You got to have real bar-be-que, and Atlanta just doesn't have that many of them. The Best local ""que"" is the Old Hickory House at Northlake, in Tucker. Hickory House has been know for it's good Bar-be-que and its wonderful Brunswick stew!!! Daddy Ds Brunswick is junk. There is suqatache in it. That's not Brunswick stew. Stew can have chicken, pork, and beef, or a mixture of all three. (The old timers put rabbit, squirle, possium, and other meats in it alone with the other three or combinitations of all them). Also it has tomatoes, and a small hint of white corn. Yellow corn is for cows, hogs, chickens and horse, white is for the table!!! Take it from a Georgia Boy of 8 generations, since 1785!!! more
