Best BBQ in SF! I like the short end ribs the most.

Worst

The food is so good that I occasionally brave the surly counter staff. If Brother-in-Law's truly wants a broad customer base they should learn to be nicer to people who don't loo...

WORST BARBECUE EVER! 4/30/2010

I ordered delivery service from Da Pitt. After waiting 1.5 hours for my food, I called to see where my order was. The manager said the delivery driver was leaving now and would be there in 15-minutes. Another 45-minutes went by and I still had not received my food. I called back again to see what was going on with my order. The manager said the driver was on her way and he would have her call me. I waited another 30 minutes and my food still had not arrived so I called a third time and requested that my order be canceled; but the manager said it wasn't possible because the driver was near my house and he would make sure she called. Well, she called and was only 5 blocks away on Gough. I gave her detailed directions on how to drive down Gough and make a left on Market Street. When she got to the intersection, she made her other left so she made a right going the opposite direction and had to try again. While only having to make a right on Octavia, another right on After 20 minutes she finally managed to at least make it across market still failing to make a left. I told her to park and I would walk to her. So I walked down the block to the person who should have come to me since that is their job. She quoted me the order total. I paid and even tipped her since I did not have exact change. So finally, 3+ hours after I ordered my food, I get my order only to find out that they did not include the desserts we ordered, they did not include two of the side dishes, and the dinner was buried in a disgusting barbecue sauce. Just the look of the food was almost enough to turn my stomach. Even if it had not been smothered, the food was cold and tasted horrible. I called back again to the restaurant to let them know what was missing and that the food was not eatable. I requested a refund and the manager said I would have to talk to the owner. Well, I have waited for days now and have yet to see my money. All I can say is that this was the worst dining experience I have ever had! Also, the owner lied about refunding my order and basically stole my money since I did not eat the food and it sat in my apartment for two days before I tossed it down the trash shoot. I talked to the owner and told him about my experience with my order and that the food was not eatable. The owner just made excuse for why the order was late, why the order was cover sauce when I requested it be on the side, and why their delivery driver sucked. He never once took ownership for their mistakes. I demanded a refund after talking with his and hearing his excuses. He finally agreed and said the driver would be back by to pickup the food and refund my money. Two days later, I still had not received a refund so the owner lied and stole my money since I the driver never returned. I will also be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Cons: disgusting food, not service oriented, thieves and liar more

WOW THIS IS BAR B QUE AT ITS BEST 2/2/2008

THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL QUE. DA' PITT USES REAL WOOD AND YOU CAN SMELL IT FROM BLOCKS AWAY THE FIRST SIGN THAT YOU HEADING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. THIS PLACE BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR OVER 45+ YRS LETTING YOU KNOW THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. THE RIBS (SHORT ENDS) AND BEEF BRISKET ARE THE BEST THING ON THE MENU FILLED WITH SMOKE FLAVOR AND TENDER AS CAN BE. THE PLACE IS MORE A TAKE OUT SINCE THEY HAVE FEW TABLES. I HAD THE SAMPLER PLATE WITH RIBS, BEEF AND LINKS AND MY WIFE HAD A HALF ORDER OF BIRD THAT WAS JUICY AND GOLDEN. THIS IS HOW QUE SHOULD BE. HOT SAUCE IS NOT TO HOT BUT YOU WILL ENJOY IT LIKE YOU ENJOY LIFE (LOL). DONT LET THE OUTER LOOK OF THE BUILDING FOOL YOU IT'S THE BEST. Pros: THE FOOD BIG FLAT SCREEN TV PLAYS MOVIES DAILY Cons: NOT ENOUGH ROOM IN THE PLACE FOR A PARTY more

Best Damn BBQ in the city!!! They really Load their plates with heeps of meat! 9/4/2007

This historic and family owed BBQ hole in the wall used to be called Brother in Laws for over 50 years before selling it to the man who'd been manning the smoke grill for the past ten years. he and his wife LILLY, bought it about 1 year ago and nothing major has changed...he's still the cook. Though he did add Tri Tip and Baby Back Ribs to the menu...which are awesome! This place is great, and if you are too much of a wimp to get past the bars on the window and local thugs loitering in the parking lot....well all I can say is grow a pair or it's your loss. I walk to and from this BBQ Gem at all hours of the day at least once a month. Never had any issues, it is perfectly safe...well safe enough! That goes for what is out side the front door...what lies inside is friendly smiles and great (but slow) service. Pros: Everything but the side dishes Cons: 90% of the side dishes more

Not To Die For 6/15/2005

The pork ribs are above average, but the sauce is a bit too thin. Good value for the money. Pros: Pork Ribs, Good Value, Parking Cons: Sauce more

Solid Every Time 5/18/2005

I live down the street from this BBQ and every time we go it's superb. The pork ribs are the best bet on the menu and the beans are true BBQ beans. The sauce (recommend spicy) is a delicious summer's day homogenized into a sweet/spicy treat. There is a reason it's always busy and they sometimes sell out. The people behind the counter have always been great to me when I appreciate them. Pros: Pork, Sauce, Beans more

disappointed 2/19/2005

I highly recommend not going to this place. I was disappointed and I should have taken the negative reviews more seriously. I should have realize right away that it would not be quality food. When ordering a ""coke"" - the real thing, instead received Safeway's cola. The pork ribs were very tough and dry and did not come off the bone easily. The sauce okay but flat and left an after taste that lasted quite awhile. Pros: easily parking, service Cons: meat tough, terrible after taste more

It will have to do..... 7/25/2004

I was pretty disappointed in this place after reading all the positive reviews and hearing they had good barbecue here. On the positive side, the guy at the counter was pretty nice to me, unlike the experiences reported here by other negative reviewers. However, I would have gladly endured abuse if only the barbecue were good. We bought a whole slab of the pork ribs. They were a bit dry and overcooked. The sauces we got were unexceptional. But SF not being a barbecue town, I guess they'll have to do. I'm beginning to lose all confidence in the reviews posted on this website except for the negative ones. Pros: Possibly best in SF Cons: , Lousy side dishes, Boring sauce more

Yum! 7/13/2004

I thought Minnie's was good, until I found Bro's. The food was delicious, the sauce superb, the service friendly and did I mention the ribs were tender as can be, while the brisket melted in my mouth? This is my new favorite BBQ spot - there is none better in the city. more

don't forget the cobbler 5/22/2004

definately a take out spot, call ahead to make sure they have not run out of meats and closed early. The cooking is hit and miss and sometimes, the ribs are right on the mark and sometimes, overcooked and slightly dry. Pros: parking lot, peach cobbler, good value more

Hit or Miss 3/7/2004

The food is hit or miss, sometimes the full order ribs are ""JUST RIGHT"" or it's ""WELL DONE AND OVERCOOKED."" The sauce is average nothing to write home about. This place is only a take out operation, there are acouple of small tables but not reccomended. I wouldn't go there at night, just because of the neighborhood. more

get the peach cobbler 2/20/2004

many reviews and nobady mentioned their peach cobbler. by the way i like their ribs, and the place looks bad enogh to keep yuppies away(this is good!). Links are good too, beef brisket is better at minnie's. they could have bigger portion though. Pros: peach cobbler, ribs, no yuppies more

Good Cue! 2/8/2004

Had some take-out brisket, beef links and pork ribs with some baked beans, potato salad and coleslaw as sides. Brisket and links were very good but the ribs were a bit dry and salty, even with the bbq sauce (average). Sides were just ok and could use a bit of help to round out the meal. Service is very homey and there aren't too many places to sit inside so takeout is the primary option. An ok spot if you've got a hankering for meat but could be better... Pros: Beef Brisket, Beef Links Cons: BBQ sauce just ok more

A little slice of Heaven! 12/3/2003

The food is screaming! One of my more favorite foods are the links with the hot sauce....watch out! The ribs are cooked well with very very few undercooked ribs. The other food choices are excellent as well. I would rate this one slightly above Big Nates in taste. I have eaten at a few bar-b-que joints in the city but by far this is the best. Great for parties too. I was able to feed about 20 guys for a bachlor party at a very good price. Pros: Price, Taste, Well Cooked Cons: Location, Service more

Not as good as Texas! 10/23/2003

I'm a native from the Bay Area who has thoroughly enjoyed Texas BBQ in Texas many times. I was in Austin just last week and had some incredible ribs there. Earlier tonight, I visited Brother-in-Law's for my first time. The pork spareribs were somewhat tasty and the brisket was mostly tender, and both were drenched in a spicy but one dimensional sauce. It simply does not compare with real Texas BBQ. The brisket completely lacked any smoke flavor and displayed no smoke ring. It was good enough that I ate it all up. Service was friendly and prompt for me. Kind of pricey for what I got, nearly $20 for a 2 meat combo w/side of spaghetti and bread. I'll give it another try, but my expectations aren't very high. Pros: tasty pork spareribs, parking available Cons: lack of smokey flavor, kind of pricey, unclean establishment more

Mediocre Food At Best 10/28/2002

The chicken was OK, but the ribs and beef were mediocre at best. Service was horrible and the wait for food was ridiculous. Cons: Mediocre BBQ, Poor Service more

really finger licken' good 10/26/2002

A tiny hole in the wall serving up superior bar-b-que more

Finger likin good 9/13/2002

As a Son of the South whose lived here 25 years, I can say without hesitation that its better than anything in Texas, although Memphis, KC and NC are better. Best in San Francisco...hands down. more

Smokin 9/8/2002

Tender ribs . . . good potato salad . . . kitchen is always smokin. Pros: Real BBQ, Generous portions more

Que up to the Brotha's 9/1/2002

I've had Bar-B-Q all over the country and the ribs at the Brotha's is the best. Moist, juicy, tangy, suck the meat and juices from the bone good. Try the sweet potato pie, you'll go back for more. I was the last customer at the Brotha's in 1989 during the quake. My ribs were bouncing all over the counter as the cook tried to cut them. He didn't miss a beat. After bouncing around in a circle, I walked back inside and said, ""I knew your ribs had soul, but I didn't know they could dance. try em' Pros: food-great, Ambiance-eclectic Cons: seating-limited, needs painting more
