Editorial review from Citysearch 4/8/2013

I've been here a couple of times. It's a popular business and is often busy. The lady I've dealt with is sometimes brusque which might come off as a little rude, but they do great work, reasonably priced and on time (at least in my experience) and I don't mind the eccentricities in exchange for that.\r The one time I was in there on a weekend, they were slammed with wedding stuff getting picked up, so maybe avoid Saturday mornings if you can. more

Never again DZ! Worst service ever! 8/27/2011

DZ tailor is disorganized and unprofessional, as evidenced by several of my experiences, but today takes the cake! I have been sitting inside DZ tailor for almost 2 hours now. It took them 30 minutes to even find my pants, which were due today. Then, when they did find them, they hadn't even started the work. I decided it would be more effective and efficient to camp out at the shop and wait than go all the way home and come back (they tried to send me away). While the work ended up satisfactory, I wasted half my Saturday ensuring that. NOT worth it! If anyone knows a good tailor in SE Portland, PLEASE tell me. Never again DZ! (oh, BTW: they charged me for the work!) more

Great at hemming 6/26/2009

I gave them three stars because they are reasonable, I love the clean lines style of renovation. They are great at hemming pants. We use them strictly for hemming/ cuffing our jeans and/or trousers period. D Z's is close to our offices, so that is a plus. The first time I went to D Z's, was to have a vintage dress fixed. Apparently, you cannot repair silk velvet. I was not aware of that, so after giving me the bad news, the clerk tosses the dress to me...unreal! That act lacks professionalism and just common courtesy. They appear to be disorganized and do not always operated in a timely manner. One time they could not find my husband's six pairs of trousers. So I too, have been in the back room looking for my husband trousers, which we did find. They really need an efficiency expert to come by and streamline the process, and show them the reason for time axiologies in the western world. Pros: Reasonable for hemming pants Cons: Disorganized, have items finished on the date promised! more

For quality alterations at an affordable and fair price - try DZ 2/5/2009

Inside the unassuming door on SW Morrison between 12th and 13th, a clean, professional environment awaits. There are two dressing rooms, two fitting platforms, great mirrors, and a couple seats for waiting. I have had two pair of jeans hemmed and one vest altered so that it would fit across my shoulders. All three projects came out great. Before trying DZ I read through the many negative reviews on here and was a little nervous. But upon taking in my first pair of jeans to be hemmed, my nerves were settled. The owner is very conscientious and friendly. She and the other tailors do good work and will make adjustments. I was encouraged to try on my items before taking them home. Two lessons I learned and will pass on to you so that your DZ experience can be optimal: bring cash (check are accepted with ID I believe - but seriously, cash is easier) and call in advance to ensure that your items will be ready on the estimated pick up day. You might even let her know what time you plan to arrive. Pros: Reliable, skillful alterations; reasonable prices; nice environment; friendly; weekend hours Cons: Cash or check only; pick up days seem to be estimates - call ahead; downtown parking is a little tough at peak hours more

Great service for the cost! 1/18/2009

The folks at DZ have been completing my clothing alterations for about the past three years. Overall, I have been very satisfied with the quality of the work and the prices. The service has always been friendly, and the shop owner has a good sense of humor. If you are a person who exists in a linear, inflexible, well organized world, then DZ might not be the place for you. If you appreciate fluidity and can tolerate a little chaos then you'll be just fine! As other people have mentioned in their reviews, the shop itself can be a bit disorganized. For example, sometimes clothes are sorted by last name and sometimes they get sorted by first name. It might take a few minutes to find the correct article of clothing, but I've never had anything permanently misplaced. I would strongly recommend that instead of basing your opinion on someone else's review, you give DZ a try and see if they are a good match for you. Many of my friends have also been utilizing the services of DZ for many years and have had positive experiences. Where it really counts DZ is optimal: high quality alterations, low cost for level of detail, friendly service, and good location. more

oh HELL NO! 12/5/2008

i'll preface this by saying DZ does a great job on hemming jeans and keeping the original hem. don't go any further with her. three examples. 1. my best friend brought in a sweatshirt and a vintage patch she wanted sewn on the back as a gift for someone. she goes to pick it up and the patch was sewn on UPSIDE DOWN!! 2. i brought a dress in to be hemmed (that was my first mistake). i had to go back and call roughly seven times over the period of about 4 months before she finished the dress. you HAVE to tell her a certain date you need it by. that's the only way she'll get it done. 3. the dress i brought in to have hemmed, i tried it on, she pinned it, all was well when i left her shop. i finally get it home, try it on, and it's a shirt. she turned it into a shirt. it literally didn't even come half way down my butt. i am not exaggerating. i didn't notice how short it was when i picked it up, as another dress i had altered was in front of it. there's no need to even tell her about it. what can she do about it now? nothing. damage is done. my $350 dress, ruined. now a shirt. screw dz. Cons: she'll ruin your clothing AND take forever to get it done. more

Almost ruined my wedding! 9/19/2008

I've used DZ for a couple of years. I'm used to the promise of clothes being ready and they're not, but it wasn't a huge deal to me because they did a nice job at a decent price. So when I needed a new zipper and a hem for my wedding dress I thought DZ would do a good job once again. The usual stuff happened. I had to go into on three different days to pick up a dress that wasn't ready. Finally when it was ready, I go in and try to have a fitting. Once on, I couldn't get the zipper up. I took the dress off and could barely get the zipper up on the hanger. The dress had some rutching and the zipper was getting caught at the rutching. I mentioned this to the tailor and she wasn't concerned. She told me that I just needed some help. I should have listened to my instinct because on my wedding day the zipper broke while the dress was on me! It was such a cheap zipper and put in so poorly that it split and then got stuck. My friends had no choice but to cut the zipper to get me out of the dress. Luckily, we were able to figure out a solution TWO hours before the wedding. Needless to say, I will never go back. I mean of all garments that should have extra time paid to them a wedding dress is the one. Very disappointing. Pros: Prices Cons: Poor quality work, always late more

Find someplace else 8/14/2008

Many of the local boutiques use DZ for their customer alterations which is how I discovered her. It took a 2 years for me to come to terms with the fact that DZ is not worth it. Numerous times they lost my garments (the place is horrendously disorganized) and many of my garments had to be redone a second time. The price is fair but then again - you get what you pay for. Cons: unorganized, poor attention to detail more

Very unprofessional, but cheap 7/3/2008

Had a pair of jeans, and casual pants shortened. They would not make a fitting appointment via telephone, so had to wait when I arrived. When I came to get my garments, they could not locate them. They asked ME to sort through all the hanging customer orders to find my pants. After about 15 mins, found my stuff. Quality was fine, but I won't be back. They don't know they are in a Service industry. Pros: Cheap Cons: Customer Service more

Outstanding craftsmanship, pricing & service. 12/17/2007

I've patronized DZ Alterations a few times over the past couple of years. She has done consistently great work on my simple jobs (hemming / bringing-in Jeans) that i'm going to give them ""a go"" at shaping an overcoat and blazer. My experiences have given me enough confidence to trust them with rather expensive articles and refer family and friends - which i suppose is the best rating of all. Pros: Pricing, high-quality work, friendly employees Cons: Parking can be difficult in that part of downtown, quite near I-405 & Lincoln HS more

Great tailor but you have to call before you pick up your stuff! 12/13/2007

I have been going to DZ for years and love how she tailors my clothes ~ she always gets it right! And her rates are INSANELY low. However, if you are new to her you need to know that if you drop something off on Monday and say you'll pick it up on Friday you should call her on Wednesday and then again before you come down on Friday. I have brought her dozens of garments over the years and she has never lost anything! Pros: prices and good work Cons: disorganized and not always done on time more

They lose everything and do incorrect tailoring 11/18/2007

This place is awful. Multiple times I've been there and they either lose your clothes, don't have them done, don't know what they did or what to charge you, or tailor them incorrectly. There are no mirrors, no place to get measured, so you just measure yourself and fill in the receipt yourself on the way out and keep your fingers crossed you get your stuff back in one piece. This place should not be in business, it reminds me of a sweatshop. The owner has her whole family working in the back, L&I should get out to inspect this place. Please Diesel, stop recommending this tailor!!!! Cons: Everything more

out of a movie! 10/27/2007

dz alterations came highly recommended but today i discovered they are highly disorganized. i dropped off my items last monday and was promised them on friday. after driving into downtown to pick the items up on friday they were not actually ready. she promised they would be ready saturday by noon. today not only were the things not done, but they were nowhere to be found! i actually had to go in the back room and search through piles of clothing. no one seemed very concerned about finding my things. finally i asked that the things be looked for or else i would need to be reimbursed for them. after about 45 mins. the clothes were finally found. they had been dropped behind a table. no wonder, the back room is a complete mess!! whie i was waiting, a woman came in who wanted to pick up her coat. the woman said it still wasn't ready even though she had been waiting 5 weeks and been by every weekend for the last 3 weekends to pick it up! basically i think they take on too many jobs without really having good time management or organization. maybe they are skilled but you will experience extreme frustration with every interaction. it's pure madness!!! maybe you can equate it with the crazy soup episode on sienfeld-good soup, horrible service! no alterations for you!!! more

don't frequent this business if you don't have months to wait 10/4/2007

while the owner is a skilled seamstress, she has no concept of completing alterations on time-- i've continued to use her services b/c of the quality of her work-- however, most recently she's had an item of mine for 4 months and the work is still not complete. when i spoke to her this morning she told me she'd find my item and try to work on it, then she hung up on me. Pros: great seamstress Cons: work is NEVER done on time more

DZ is disappointing 5/29/2007

I have taken clothing to DZ to be altered on two separate occasions. In both cases they were not completed when I returned. In the second case, they were still not completed when I returned the second time and so I have taken the clothing elsewhere to be finished. Cons: unreliable more

The DZ Girls are the BEST! 3/3/2005

I have brought them at least 10 pairs of jeans for them to hem. They are the best. They do a great job and put the original hem back on! They are very reasonably priced and can turn them around for you that day! They seriously rock! Pros: Very Nice, Great Prices, Quick Turnaround Cons: Parking not so great more
