The order took forever to get to us and when it did - it was less than satisfactory. It looked like it was just thrown together and the portions were much smaller than they are in the restaurant, I believe. Also the driver literally dropped the order in my hand and ran off. Poor customer service. more

Like Steven Starr's other places, this is highly over-rated 11/2/2010

A restaurant that bore the ""Steven Starr"" label used to count for something... nowadays it usually means this; cool decor, pricey albeit interesting drink list, snobby crowds, sub-par food and completely average overall experience. It's happened to just about all of the Starr places, and Continental Mid-Town is no exception. When you walk in, the ambiance is promising. But then, you check out the other people there, and interact with the employees, and already your enthusiasm falters. Looking at the menu, you may get excited again-- the offerings looks appealing. And then they arrive... Steven Starr is a genius, but he seems to be spread too thin. After yet another abysmal experience in one of his locations, I'm done. If you're hungry and in this area, feel free to skip here, Parc, and Barclay Prime. There are much better places to go in that immediate vicinity. more

HORRIBLE!! TERRIBLE!! DISCRIMINATION AGAINST DISABLED PEOPLE 8/30/2010

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am disabled woman and require a service dog and the Continental on Chestnut St. refused me and my friend service b/c of my service dog who was very visibly in his uniform and on duty. I talked with the waiter and staff and told them my rights and that he needs to be with me at all times and why and they demanded that I provide them with paperwork. I told them I was not required by law to carry or show ANYONE his paperwork and the vest and ID badge he was wearing is all they need to see. They cannot legally demand I tell them my disability either. The manager Tracy, yelled at me in front of other patrons. Everyone was staring at us, I was so humiliated I cannot even tell you. My blood sugar was dropping and I knew I needed to eat something quick so we went elsewhere since they refused to give me anything to eat or drink. I wonder if I would have had fainted or had a seizure if we had waited around, then they could have seen that my service dog always does his job. It is now 2010, ADA was passed in 1990. What really needs to happen so that disabled people or those with medical needs requiring service dogs like myself are on equal footing with the rest of the population?? Are people still so ignorant that they will not educate themselves on these issues when managing a restaurant in center city?? more

I went here on a date, and I really had a nice experience. Wait staff was very attentive, the place with busy with a good ""buzz"", and I enjoyed the creative choices of food to eat. Everything we sampled was excellent. They have an eclectic drink menu as well. Highly recommend it! Pros: atmosphere, food, drinks Cons: didnt feel like there were any more

Great dining experience! 3/8/2009

A girlfriend and I were going to a local performance and just happened to come across the Continental Mid-Town. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a friendly hostess who gladly seated us in a booth by the window. Our server was also very friendly. Miso soup can be ho-hum so I didn't expect much...but they served a generous portion of the BEST miso soup I've ever tasted. We also got the Tempura Tofu and the Crab & Asparagus Crepes which were also delicious. Topped it off with the Chocolate Truffles (a perfect little dessert) and Carrot Cake. Cool atmosphere, hip decor, fun people watching, great location, friendly service, awesome food that was timed very nicely. Reasonably priced for the overall high quality. Bravo. I will definitely go back and bring friends or family. more

One of the best- always delivers 9/8/2008

Love this place- I go 3-4 times a year and it never disappoints. the menu is fun and there is something for everyone. I enjoy the specialty cocktails- The Hawaii 5-0 is my fave - tastes just like pineapple lifesavers! My friends love the Mexico City, although I suspect it's pure tequila with a splash of something pink.\r The food is meant to be shared. A group of 4 of us usually orders 6-8 of the smaller plates. Some of the best include the cheese steak eggrolls, spicy tuna rolls, hummus, chicken skewers with peanut sauce, and the beet salad with goat cheese. The signature dish is their lobster mac & cheese, which isn't worth $18. Personally, I don't feel that any of their ""entrees"" are worth the price since they are the same size as the apps, and harder to share.\r Desserts at this place are PHENOMENAL- everything is made in-house including the ice cream. The key lime lollipops deserve an award- and the graham cracker ice cream that is served with them could be its own dessert, it's SO good.\r They don't take reservations- which for me is a plus since you can go there last minute and won't be turned away. You may have to wait a while, but finding a seat at one of the bars usually isn't too difficult- and they'll page you when your table is ready. \r Whenever I have out-of town guests, this is my go-to place. Pros: Fun food to share with friends Cons: small portions more

Excellent Food! 7/7/2008

I've been here twice and both times the food was excellent. My filet was grilled to perfection. The desserts were also fabulous! Go hungry! more

Trendy, Fun, Awesome 4/21/2008

The Continental Midtown is just about my favorite place in the city to hang out. They've a great drink menu (my fave is the ""French 75""), and the atmosphere is awesome, between the different colors, lighting, hanging bamboo chairs, and what I love in the warmer weather; a rooftop deck! Just wish it were bigger, but you can't have everything. Pros: Drinks/Atmosphere/Stylish/Rooftop Deck Cons: Just wish the rooftop deck was bigger! more

Consistently good. 2/21/2008

I've eaten at Continental midtown a number of times and have never had a complaint about the food. The lobster mac & cheese is amazing. It is delightfully cheesy and tender and you'll never want another mac & cheese again. The calamari salad is refreshing and a great quick bite to eat. The calamari is perfectly cooked, never overdone and chewy. I would prefer that they take reservations as the waits can sometimes drag on and on, and during peak meal times it can be very loud, but overall, it's a great place for a nice, quick bite to eat. Pros: reasonably priced, good food, inventive menu Cons: waiting more

Best martini's and atmosphere 2/20/2008

the midtown is an amazing atmosphere and has a great vibe and energy to it, pair up with a fantastic selection of martinis served in their own shaker, along with some great food leads to having a great time. more

Great place for a date 2/16/2008

I just recently went to Continental with my boyfriend for a Valenitines Day dinner and really enjoyed myself! It was my frist time going to a tapas resturant and I will surely be asking to go again! The food was great...........I loved the small portions! Left room for dessert.(gotta try the milk and cookies, it takes just like creme brulee without the sugar top!) I had the Thai Chicken with Peanut Sauce and my boyfriend had the lobster rolls. We also shared the hummus and pita chips! WONDERFUL! I had no clue until reading other reviews on here that they have an outside upstairs! Want to go back in the warmer months and sit outside! I already know what I am going to have next time I go! Philly cheesesteak rolls with fries! The waiter that we had was really nice and explained to me all about how the resturant works.......It's a great, hip place for a date! Pros: Great service and food is great Cons: N/A more
