Editorial review from Citysearch 7/19/2012

Going in there at first was great because I'm new there but after the examination if you don't like what they suggest you, you can clearly see their annoyed and unpleasant face. I decided to order contacts for a full one year and it's taking more than 2 weeks, without any notification of the status. I tried calling during business hours and NO ANSWER. When I finally got through, they had a nasty attitude asking who I am and what do I want. Are you serious now? never will I recommend this place, at least not the one at 42st considering it being in the city, no one will think they act like snobs. more

RUDE STAFF, OVERPRICED, DO NOT GO HERE!!! 8/2/2011

I recently walked into the store with a friend who was interested in a pair of glasses. I've never witnessed such a display of poor customer service. The woman with whom he spoke with was rude, condescending, unprofessional and completely disrespectful. NYC has a reputation as a tough town, but I have never, ever witnessed a sales person be so rude. \r \r To be honest, their selection sucks and is really overpriced. Try Grand Central Optical if you're in the neighborhood and looking for some new specs. They'll be more appreciative of your business and take a completely different sales tactic (more professional, pleasant). Plus their inventory is better and their pricing is more competitive.\r \r Seriously, don't go here...this is the first time I've ever posted a review on CitySearch since moving to NYC. I'm absolutely appauled this place is still in business after what I witnessed today and other reviews on this place I've read. more

Worst Decision Ever! 5/19/2011

If this post can save at least one person from the agony that I have faced at Cohen's, I will be so happy. They were so ""helpful"" when I was a customer trying to get contacts, but turned into rude, and disrespectful jerks when they messed up my order. I have been trying to get my refund as promised by me to the manager 8 weeks ago, and I am still waiting! They claim they can't do returns at the store, but last time I checked, all businesses that have a credit card machines have the possibility to reverse a transaction. Oh, and they are trying to make me wait 4-6 weeks for a refund from ""headquarters."" They don't care about you, so don't be fooled!! I would rather pay the $120 for an eye exam at lenscrafters, where I have received exceptional, non-pushy service. The manager, Mark, (no last name, because they don't give it!) (shady!) should be super ashamed of the business they do. They are a franchise also, so don't expect anyone to really help you when you need to talk to someone about the terrible business policies. more

WORST OPTICAL EVER! 1/8/2010

I went to Cohen's for a contact lens exam and I've always wore Acuvue contacts. They tried to sell me some generic brand and it's horrible. Then a girl by the name of Stephanie helped me with my eye glasses and I spent well over $450.00 and when I came to pick up they couldn't find my glasses. Stephanie was rude and unprofessional but, funny, when she sold me the glasses she was so pleasant. DON'T EVER COME HERE! Cons: STAFF more

happy with my glasses 10/30/2009

I went to Cohen's Optical on Wednesday for an eye exam and reading glasses. I have gvs insurance. They assisted me in completing the paperwork and graciously showed me the frames covered by the plan. My glasses were ready in two days! They fit perfectly and they didn't cost me a penny. Overall a very good experience! Pros: fast, courteous service more

Cohens Optical 6/9/2009

I had a very bad experience with the Cohens Optical.I feel like am being cheated by Cohens. When i checked the frame prices with Lenscrafters, there was a vast difference , it was around 100 $ more for each frame. I spend around 450 $ for my frame ,when i checked with lenscrafters, the exact frame similar to mine cost around 285 $.When i asked about the wide price differences with the lady who was standing there ,she was like blabbering something .Her answering was so weird. I was feeling trapped by Cohens. This was my first experience i ever had in my whole life. Never Ever go to this horrible place..... I dont have any single good thing to say about them. I will give them 0 marks or the lowest rank to Cohens Opticals. All there services are very very poor......Never trust Cohens. Never go to Cohens Opticals Opticals, 330 West 42 nd Street, NY. Pros: Very very very Bad Cons: Very very very Bad more

cohens-the most horrible place you can go for eyeglassess 6/9/2009

Horrible Horrible Horrible. I went into this place, they greeted me well, told my insurance would cover the eye exam only and 20% of on the frames.Everything went well till the point came to choose the frame. We liked some and they started showing me frames of unheard brands and all their prices starting from 300$ plus...ridiculous..,when u can get a D&G tortoise frame for 319$..and then i cheked the prices of more branded ones, like prada,d&g,bvlgari etc and they all listed a store sticker in the range of 500 to 600$ for a frame!! ridiculous when those models i checked had a retail price of 300 to 400$..i told them that these prices are too high compared to the normal retal list price(for eg in lenscrafters)..then they gave me a reason that lenscarfters can sell for that price coz they own the company which manufacture for most of the designers.c'mon then why would someone go to cohens!!..haha..Then i told them clearley that i want a branded frame at a resonable price and after all the blabbering and discount i got a calivin klein frame for 437$ and the retail ist price of the same is only 295$ and shows around 172$ online(framesdirect). They treated me like as if they are doing a great favour when showing the different frames and the ladies there are horrible and mocking. The eye doctor and another african american sales woman was giving me mocking smiles and looks as if i am doing some grave mistake by asking for an itemised bill.and it turned out that they wont put the brand name or model number on the bill which would proabaly get them out of a law suit.which they probably wont.\r This is the most horrible place you can go for eyeglassess.Never go there..\r 1)Frames Collection-Horrible(only 2-3 models from deisgner brands.just name sake)\r 2)Customer Service-Very Bad.They might even abuse you if you ask for a prescription and itemised bill\r 3)Price-Way too high-Unheard brands are listed at 300 to 400$(USD).while u can get a designer brand with swaroski crystals at 300$ at lenscrafters.\r Had a very bad experience.Felt like we were trapped since there is no refund.Horrible!!! Cons: horrible more

Terrible Customer Service 12/9/2008

I had one of the worst experiences at this optician. Very unfriendly and they were so quick they couldn't get me out quick enough - the optician didn't even say 'hello' or ask about any past eye history why I was even there I had to tell her and I don't think she even cared. They also quoted me a cheaper price when and then argued with me when the fee for an eye exam was $50 more. I should have walked out but I urgently needed a contact lens prescription that I asked for them to rush - they did not call me for 10 days and during that time they kept me on hold for over 10 mins each time. My advise, NEVER go to this Opticians terrible customer servce and an incredibly rude optician! Pros: good location Cons: Terrible customer service more

Great customer service and a good deal 2/6/2007

The store was clean, the selection was top notch, the sales staff was helpful and informative. I went to this store to get safety glasses for my job and they treated me with respect and courtesy, just like a customer who was buying a $800 pair of glasses. I had a great experience here. I hope this helps anyone who is thinking of coming here. more
