Best

Delivery was a little long, but the food was worth the wait.

Worst

I will have to say this place has changed for the worse. Once again we go on a Thursday night to a semi-busy establishment. Our first encounter is a manager which in turn is the...

This place has the best Indian food in Austin 4/18/2013

This place has the best Indian food in Austin. My personal favorite is the tandoori chicken, which is baked in an authentic clay oven. It’s not too spicy, but still has a lot of flavor, which is perfect for me! My only complaint would be that there was over an hour and a half wait when we arrived, but the bar was a great place to wait in the meantime. more

Delicious and Cheap Lunch Buffet 10/2/2007

I normally stay miles away from buffets, but the lunch deal at The Clay Pit can't be missed. Wonderful, fresh dishes with several good vegetarian options. more

great service, great food 4/17/2006

I don't know much about Indian food, but I feel like this is probably some of the best in Austin. I've gone for dinner several times, and it's great to order a few dishes with friends and share. The drink menu huge, and the waitstaff is always sincerely pleasant and helpful. Also, they have a good selection of vegetarian dishes...always a plus for me. more

great flavor 4/16/2006

The Clay Pit has very good Indian food and good prices for lunch. Their menu looks somewhat expensive for dinner but I’m sure I’ll try it sometime. Their chicken is excellent and the blend of spices which is in most of their food is very flavorful although many of the dished turn out rather spicy. A great restaurant for lunch downtown. more

good Indian food 4/5/2006

The Clay Pit has very good Indian food at very reasonable prices for lunch. I have not eaten there for dinner, but I agree with some others that it looks rather expensive for dinner. Their lunch buffet, however, is very good. Their chicken is spiced nicely and they offer tons and tons of vegetarian options. A great place to catch lunch when you're downtown. more

The Clay Pit 3/27/2006

If you work in the downtown area, you've got to try the Clay Pit's lunch buffet. I've never been there for dinner, but their menu looks a bit pricey for my pocket book. However, their lunch buffet is affordable and you get a pretty decent amount of choices. Their main dish always changes so you might want to call ahead if you have something specific in mind. I've heard some people complain about the lack of choices their buffet offers but for $7, what do you expect? Their dinner is way more costly and this way you get to taste a variety of their specialties. You'd likely spend just as much if you went to the Pizza Hut buffet which is way greasier and lacks the quality. I'd say try it once and see if it's for you. more

GOOD Indian Food! 10/21/2005

I ate here the other day, and I must say it was really tasty. The spices in the food and the cultural feel are all a valued assent in this restaurant. The service is very friendly and the dim setting is perfect for any romantic occasion. I would return here any day for this very cultural meal. more

Great Indian Cuisine 9/21/2005

The Clay Pit has some very authentic South Asian cuisine. Their paneer items are really good. Also, their chicken cooked in the indian spices tastes really good. All in all, this was a great place around campus if you are interested in desi food! more

The best Indian food! 9/17/2005

This is the best place for Indian food. Everything on the menu is great! I would highly recommend the Palak Paneer. They also make great Naans. The setting is also very clean and almost romantic- like. It's a great place to take a date or for special occasions, though it's also a nice place to enjoy a casual dinner. I highly recommend this place! more

Indian Spice 8/23/2005

This place was really interesting, especially since I went with a friend who wasn't Indian either. It's a nice environment with the dim lighting. I liked trying all their foods. Try the skewers...I tried the assorted meat one and my friend tried the seafood one. The skewers let you try a little bit of everything. I'd recommend this for a nice date because it is a little pricey. more

Posers who claim to sell Indian food. Lunch buffet lacks variety but dinner is good. 8/11/2005

The daily lunch buffet does not have enough meat options. There are only TWO meat dishes (one of them being their bland and overdone chicken tikka) with WAY too many vegetable dishes. The waiters lack personalities and it takes forever to get their attention. This place is best for dinner although it is WAY overpriced. Always use the buy one get one free entree coupon from the Entertainment Book. Oh, and they're freakin' hippies who sometimes give profits to lame liberal causes. One more thing -- this ain't real Indian food. WAY Americanized. more

Great for business lunch 8/7/2005

Clay Pit is a great place for lunch. The lunch buffet is probably the best deal they have. They also have coupons in various places (entertainment book, daily texan, etc) I think they discounts for students too. Anyway, Clay Pit is contemporary Indian cuisine. They're located in some historic building, dont recall the name, but its cool. The ambience is casual, upscale. Service is great. I would recommend this place for business lunches. Students can also get a decent lunch buffet for about $7. It's pretty close to campus too, walking distance or #1 bus more

Great food- Worth every penny! 8/4/2005

If you love Indian food, then this is a place you've got to try. I have yet to find a dish that I disliked. This is a great place for casual, business, or formal dining. The price is reasonable. They've got all the usual Indian dishes, though they are a bit Americanized. I would highly recommend the korma with shrimp or chicken. more
