Fantastic restaurant! 11/21/2008

My wife and I have been regulars at the China Cafe on Spicewoods Springs Rd. for a long time. We have tried many other chinese restaurants in Austin but this is our favorite by far. The food is always fresh tasting and delicious. The extensive menu has a good variety of dishes for every palate. There are also several special dishes that change from time to time. The owners are very friendly and helpful. If you don't see the exact dish you want, ask and they will be happy to make it for you if they can. The service is fast and there is no waiting for a table. The portions are generous so we often leave with a ""doggie bag."" The prices are very reasonable for such quality food and efficient service. Pros: Excellent food, good menu variety, fast seating and service, friendly staff. Cons: None, more

Best Chinese Food in Austin--Don't Waste Your Time Elsewhere! 4/29/2008

We discovered China Cafe on Spicewood Springs Drive a couple of years ago, and, since our first visit, we knew we had found a gold mine. I have no clue how Mary Ann and the other two owners do it, but they use spices nobody else uses, and every dish is better than the one we ordered before. Their duck dishes are nonpareil, as are their lamb dishes. Even the egg rolls are the best in town, and, as one other reviewer noted, even their iced tea is the best in town, with actual TEA FLAVOR!!! To end the dining experience, their fortune cookies are by far the best in town, too! The place is always quiet, and the ambience is nice. It's in a very small strip center, rather than a stand-alone restaurant, but you won't care. The prices are reasonable, too! Everything here just seems to have 75% more flavor than elsewhere! Pros: BEST CHINESE FOOD IN TOWN--DON'T WASTE YOUR DOLLARS ELSEWHERE!! Cons: ABSOLUTELY NONE!! more

Oasis of quality 1/19/2007

I'm picky when it comes to Chinese food. I'll eat at restaurants all across town to find a great one. Imagine my delight when I found this gem practically in my back yard! Pros: Easy access, parking, incredible flavor for a budget price! more

BEST CHINESE FOOD IN AUSTIN!!! 7/5/2005

When you dine here, ask for MaryAnn--the co-owner, omnipresent, and a delightful Oriental woman who is so sweet. This restaurant is the only restaurant in Austin that has Chinese Food resembling New York Chinese food. I've tried every restaurant in town, and this is fabulous! Off menu, but always available, is the walnut shrimp--candied walnuts, deep fried shrimp, with a fabulous sauce--not too mild, not too hot!! Also, the crispy duck is the only duck in town resembling Pressed Duck! The lamb with onions is to die for, with a peppery brown sauce that is PERFECT! Even the iced tea is excellent. The Orange Chicken is unbelievable, as well. We are just now discovering this eclectic menu, with superb choices, and my plan is to be there twice a week until I've ordered and rated everything. This is the only Chinese restaurant in town where every bite is different. ENJOY!! Pros: Superb Menu, Austin-friendly staff, Easy Parking more

Pros: Inexpensive, Great food, The Best Boomkake more
