Best

My girlfriends and I LOVE Smith Street and have been hanging out at the bars and restaurants there for years now. It was only this summer that we stumbled upon Chance...and we can...

Worst

Service is inconsistent and inattentive.

cold dumplings 7/28/2006

you maight love cold dumplings, especialy at summer time. me , i hated it, the center of the pork one was frozen, Pros: ice cream Cons: food, wine more

Always superior service; always awesome meals 7/14/2006

You cannot go wrong with this place. The food is outstanding and the service is quick, friendly and very professional. Always a nice crowd, but never loud. Go here. Good for dates or with friends. Pros: food, service, price Cons: the name more

Stay away! 7/10/2006

Horrible. We were seated and ignored by waitstaff. Restaurant was dirty and unkempt. Bartender was unable to tear himself away from friends at bar. When he finally did, he was unable to make a gin and tonic -- couldn't find tonic. Chance is a joke. Avoid at all costs. Pros: No pros Cons: Overhyped, dirty, stay away more

Excellent Food! 6/18/2006

My friends and I were on vacation in NY and was referred to Chance by a friend. I found the food to be outstanding, particulary the salmon dish I had. I also ordered the Change Mojito, which was out of this world. My friends settled for rice dishes, but we came back the following day to try the dim sum, which was good...not outstanding, but good. We ate out in the back patio, which is worth it as it's cool and the music is hear well there. Overall, excellent restaurant! more

Take a Chance 4/26/2006

This lovely French-Asian fusion restaurant stands out amongst other great restaurants on Smith Street. We walked in on a Wednesday night and were seated promptly. The service was attentive without being overbearing and each dish we tried was wonderful from the spring rolls to the cod with pineapple tempura. And they provided a delicious dessert on the house! Definitely not a restaurant to skip! Pros: Food, Ambience, Service more

Its worth the wait 4/8/2006

Chance is a small cozy restaurant, with a romantic feel to it, the decor is great. Yes you have to wait to be seated and because its small there is no waiting area and the seat at the bar was all taken. But when you are seated the waitresses are great, they explain everything on the menu, and the price of the food is really cheap for the service you get. I had the mango chicken and i can't go on to tell you how delicious that was and the presentation was beatiful. Please if your thinking about it go, and stay the wait you won't be disappointed. Pros: Inexpensive, service, Tasty food Cons: Wait more

Where's the bartender? 4/5/2006

I have visited Chance since it opened, last time at the end of February, and got the best service in the bar area, period. Of couse because I like the food and love the drinks I have always come back. And when my friends and I had RAW pork in a dumpling the helpful and friendly bartender tried her best to accomodate us (it was disgusting chewing on RAW pork!) while not making an idiot of the owner (No, he didn't even take it off the bill, so the bartender ended up paying for it to make us come back!) . I will never eat there again! Yuuk! Pros: Friendliness, ex bartender Cons: Raw pork!, attitude more

Nasty guy at the door, but good food 4/1/2006

What's up with the guy at the door saying the wait is 10 minutes when in reality it is an hour? And the waitresses yelling at each other and looking angry? Drinks were mediocre and a friend of ours living in the area said they used to be great. Hmm... My wife liked the shrimp, but I got some undercooked pork and after complaining it still wasn't taken off the menu. Cool looking place, but the managment seems to have hubris or something. Pros: some of the food Cons: host, attitude, raw pork! more

Smith Street - Friday Night 3/31/2006

Toni & I have been to Chance about 6 times since it opened. Each time the drink menu has had numerous interesting mixes. Last night we tried the chardonnay and the Pom Margarita. Both were perfect Friday evening relaxers. We had the brook trout, stuffed shrimp and spicy tuna appetizer. The chocolate souffle was as always - perfect. Pros: souffle more

Smith St. Favorite!! 3/29/2006

My husband and I have tried just about every restaurant on Smith St. This is the one we continually go back to. The food is clean and fresh tasting and, unlike some Asian food, you can distinguish the different flavors and ingredients used in each dish. Lunch is an incredible value. Make sure you try their banana eggrolls with homemade ice cream for dessert!! Pros: food, service, cleanliness Cons: lighting more

do I have to beg to get served??? 3/2/2006

15 bucks an entree and I have to wait 45 min, when the place is empty and there's no explanation why is taking so late for the food to arrive? Is the food that great that I'm willing to take that kind of abuse and pay for it? NO!!! There's like 30/40 other restaurants on Smith St, if they don't value the costumer, good luck to them. more

Sexiest Waitresses on Smith Street 2/23/2006

Lovely place with the kind of Chinese food I like -- clean presentation, sizeable menu, and a bit of a French twist. Some of the best sesame prawns I've ever had. The bartrenress and waitresses are all friendly, caring. and totally on the ball. more

A Gem!!! 2/20/2006

~~~ Updated in the comment Pros: Food!!!, Service, Ambience more
Good place! 1/29/2006
We went on a wed. night, so it was not crowded at all and we got a seat right away. I found the menu to be more asian than french, but that's ok. The staff was friendly, the prices were good and so was the food. The place is pretty cozy so it might not be good for a large group, but the bar was good. The kiwi mojito was great! Pros: inexpensive, friendly, uncrowded more
Greatest house Mojito! 1/15/2006
We had Mojitos at the bar bf dinner this Saturday and they were wonderful! Busy place, but with a familiar attitude. Very friendly welcome, nice bartender and waitress. Food was delightful, if somewhat strange. In a good way strange! We'll be back as soon as we're in Brooklyn next time! Pros: drinks, friendliness, food Cons: lighting more
Yummy! 12/25/2005
The food was delicious, and the service courteous and prompt. For the most part, the menu is Chinese ingredients with French preparation, and it works. The appetizer specials when I was there were excellent. The wine list is decent, and the cocktail menu is terrific. more
Cutest waitresses and bartender! 12/10/2005
ok, so the food is good, but we loved the super friednly, yet not overbearing service! One waitress spoke weird English, but it was cute anyways. The cute bartender served us in the bar and was SO friednly and entertaining. Awesome dim sum, good entees. Nice vibe, we'll be back, !! Pros: looks of staff, attitude Cons: ? more
This is waht I'm talkin' about! 12/7/2005
Fantastic place!!! Everything from their decor to their excellent food dishes to their service was phenomenal. Eat here for asian with a delightful twist. The atmosphere is romantic and loungy, but you can dress casual to eat here. Try the $17 prix option--it's a fantasic sampleing of their dishes. more
A nice, pleasant, well prepared bargain 11/22/2005
The atmosphere at Chance is pleasant and the service was excellent. We both had a $17 Prix Fixe which was a real bargain for the quality. Try the fried squid if they have it. Pros: GOOD FOOD, Good prices Cons: loud bartender more
One of my favorites on Smith St and in Brooklyn. 11/6/2005
Chance is a wonderful place. The drink menu is interesting and creative, filled with items like kiwi mojitos and raspberry L.I. iced teas. The food is always excellent in both preparation and presentation. Their miso and hot and sour soups are both the best Ive had. While Chance is great for multi course meals with drinks and deserts you can also walk out of there full and happy with a $15 check. more
