It's a fantastical, magical place!! 6/2/2010

I love the Center for Puppetry Arts -there is no place else like it. The Center offers incredibly innovative live theater with the bonus of a museum of puppetry and hands-on workshops ? all for an unbelievably low ticket price (you'll pay twice the price or more for a similar live show)! The Center has its own in-house performers presenting imaginative, high quality, fully staged productions - singing, acting and manipulating their puppets all live. After the show, the puppeteers even show you how they did it and explain how the puppets work. In between these shows, the Center brings in guest artists offering an incredible opportunity to see a variety of puppetry styles and shows from around the world. Pros: Innovative, entertaining, live puppetry performances Cons: There isn't one in every city! more

Not suitable for my younger & active child 5/19/2010

I took my, active, not-yet-2 yr old, daughter and she would not sit still. The show did not keep her attention and I ended up letting her wander around the lobby until it was over. I would have left and taken my daughter to a park, but I was with a group of other moms and the person who rode with me had an older child who loved the show. Since a couple other moms were already out there with their younger children I didn't feel too bad. I will wait until my daughter is a little older and try the place again. more

Great kids entertainment 1/3/2010

I love the different shows throughout the year, the beautiful puppetry, and the puppet studio upstairs. My kids love creating their own puppets after each show! What a treat! Pros: cost, entertainment value Cons: parking more

Complete Waste of Money 8/14/2009

Attended a Pinnocchio show. This show is purported to last one hour. It lasted 45 minutes. All tickets are $16- including children. They shoud have more competitive rates for the young ones. Pros: Ample parking Cons: Overpriced, short duration of show, low quality performance more

Angry Atlanta Parents, Some Happy Kids 9/1/2008

My family went to see a show in late Aug.2008 (Ugly Duckling) and we were only a couple minutes late but the theater was a packed full house. There were a few seats separated from each other so we had to split up and sit in different areas, which was fine. Until angry parents were huffing and puffing while we try to find an extra seat. Other people came in after us and a parent yelled out "This is ridiculous" during the show. I was surprised at how rude the people were here. Parents complained more than their kids that they wouldn't be able to see the show because my head or one of my family members head was in their way, not in their kids way! We paid for our tickets just the same but the people that were there were reluctant to sharing the space. This was due to the poor seating plan the Puppetry Arts center had, which is first come first serve. But if you are in a little theater and have sold out shows people should be forced to scoot all the way to the wall so that the extra seats are open on the end. Pros: Cute puppet set up and puppet master lady :) Cons: Angry audience, hassle for seats, and short show more

Fun! 11/24/2006

A great place to take the kids on a rainy day. Also a great attraction for your nieces and nephews. Be sure to sit as close to the front as possible so you can really see the puppets. more

Interesting place for kids and adults 11/7/2005

The Center for Puppetry Arts is a very interesting place both for children and for adults alike. They have children's shows, and they also have some shows geared towards adults. I have taken my first grade students on a few field trips there, and they have always been a lot of fun. They puppeteers even show you how they put on the show when they are done. They also hold workshops for children. The prices tend to be a bit high, so be prepared! more

A must see...very different 11/2/2005

don't know if there are other performing arts halls like this one elsewhere, but I've never seen one. Everyone should see at least one show here, it is wonderful. Best bets are fairy tales and well known stories. They did the Jungle Book and it really blew my mind. They used the entire auditorium ceiling as the jungle canopy. Wizard of Oz, Charlotte's web were good also. There is so much attention to detail given and this is not an art you get to see very much of. They also have a puppet museum as you are walking through to either see the show or leave. It's amazing to be able to get up close to some of these really intricate pieces of movable art. Parking, like anywhere in Atlanta, isn't great. This is located in the midst of a few one way streets so have a care that you don't miss your turn or you'll go a bit out of your way. more

Performances, a Museum and Classes 10/6/2005

The Center for Puppetry Arts consists of performances, a museum and classes. We recently saw The Little Rabbit and Other South American Tales by Akbar Imhotep of Atlanta and took a self-guided tour of the museum. The performance was delightful and we equally enjoyed the museum tour. With advance notice, you can request a guided tour and behind-the-scenes tours (which look very interesting) are also given. I look forwarding to taking one of the classes (for children, teens and adults), which look like they would be quite fun and educational. The Center also has an impressive, extensive library for filled with books on puppetry topics. more

Make a Trip 9/26/2005

This has been a long standing tradition in our family because the Center for Puppetry Arts is such a wonderful experience. The goals of the programs are not only entertainment but education of the arts for their audience. Not only are there amazing family programs but educational puppetry programs, and grown-up programs too! The prices are great and we recommend it to everyone. more

Fun for all 9/18/2005

Not just for kids - the shows definately have humor geared for adults too. The show is a good length and my 1.5 and 3.5 year olds both sat through the show. Makin a puppet afterwards allowed us to bring home a souvenir puppet. A fun day! more

Really a neat place 9/13/2005

I never imagined that I would visit the Center for Puppetry Arts until my husband's company held an after hours party there and we had the run of the center. It is really a neat place and somewhere that kids would really enjoy. They have an impressive puppet collection which is on display, as well as activities for kids. Puppet shows are a given, and they have a very nice, large theater that they also use for shows. The center is pretty modern, lots of windows let light into the main areas and it is a really nice atmosphere. I'm not sure about admission, since we were there for a party, but it would definitely be somewhere to take the kids. Parking is available on location and it is conveniently located in midtown. more

Fun stuff! 11/30/2002

Went to see Winnie The Pooh with my daughter. I must say that the skills displayed by the puppeteers where outstanding! Parking was a little iffy, but the staff was as friendly as can be. The price of the tickets was abit high, but a fun time was had by all and we even got to make our own pupptets afterwards! more

Top Atlanta Attraction 5/15/2002

The exhibits are engaging. The shows are fun. Kids love it and adults enjoy it just as much. I took my young nieces to a production of Aladdin and they watched wide-eyed for the entire show. The center also puts on shows in the evenings for adults. And, I hear, this is great place for a children's birthday party. more

Not just for kids 5/13/2002

Don't let the preconceived notion that puppets are just for children keep you from one of the shows. The center has dedicated much of its time to adult programming, which never fails to be innovative and challenging. You'll find that the interactive puppet museum engages adults just as much as children (sometimes more). more
