An Irish bar that does not serve Harp's? Yeah, right. I tried the Donegal fish & chips($10.95)...all chips. Fish was lightly battered, as advertised, but was thin and chewy. Way...

When I was there, I ordered the fish 5/23/2012

When I was there, I ordered the fish and chips. Great! A little expensive but worth the money. Good beer selection also. Worth a try for sure more

Absolutely atrocious!! 3/18/2011

I have never NEVER been treated so poorly in all my life EVER!! I normally attend the Celtic with a group of friends once a month and I will NEVER attend here again. Firstly, they lost my credit card, which after 30 minutes of searching it was no-where to be found. I then had to go through the hassle of calling my credit card company to cancel it. After being there for 2 and a half hours, I was asked for my order ONCE (my first beer was ordered at the bar before I sat down at a table) When I did order my beer, the waitress messed up my order (it was only 2 drinks). When I went to close the tab I asked our waitress TWO times, before I finally got up and went to the bar to clear my tab. My 'waitress' then magically found my credit card (which she never bothered to tell me it had been found) and proceeded to swipe it through the reader. Of course it had been declined (no surprise there!) and I told her that of course it had, because I had to cancel it because it had been 'lost.' My waitress then decided to raise her voice when I asked to speak to the manager because I didn't like her attitude. She threw my bill on the floor, told me ""f*** you"" while flipping me the bird. The manager was really assy and defending his waitress and I explained what had happened. He then told me it was sorted (he never apologized for his waitress' attitude"" As I was walking to the door with my pregnant wife and friends, the waitress followed me to the door and told me ""f*** you"" and stuck up her fingers at me again and shouted to the whole bar. I don't know why the waitress acted the way she did, all's I know is that my group of friends are never going back to the Celtic ever again. This is not the first time I have been here and the service has been poor, but this episode is just astounding. I hope no-one else gets treated the way that I was. I was very scared that she was going to hit me or my wife, who was also scared. NEVER AGAIN AM I GOING TO THE CELTIC. IF YOU LIKE CRAPPY SERVICE, ABUSE AND THREATENING BEHAVIOR FROM THEIR STAFF, THEN GO AHEAD..... more

By far the worst service in Denver 3/18/2011

If you enjoy bad food, crappy drinks, and shocking service this is the place for you. Guaranteed to ruin your night. more

PASS - Terrible customer experience... read below! 11/17/2010

I visited this taven on a Tuesday night catching up with some friends who were in town. My 1st impression was a good one, a nice long bar, bowling in the back, and nice decorations. Unfortunately things quickly went downhill.\r \r After spending $100 on drinks and $20 to bowl the pizza we had ordered from next door arrived (the kitchens were closed at the Celtic). A man with white hair and kahaki shorts took the pizza from the delivery man and informed us we would not be allowed to eat it in the bar/resturaunt/lounge/patio area. There is no posted signs advising no outside food or drink. He put the pizza on the sidewalk outside in 20 degree weather. I asked if we could be refunded for bowling (we had not bowled a frame yet) and we would just leave, he refused. I asked his name so I could write a complaint, he refused. I did not get combative or aggressive with this individual but be began swearing at me and grabbed me by my jacket and pushed me out of the bar. \r \r I called the police who came to the scene and weighed my options for filing an assult charge but decided it was more of a waste of the officers time than anything else and let them go. I don't feel I was unreasonable wanting to eat some pizza while bowling and enjoying beers, I would have happily ordered from the Celtic had they been providing any.\r \r All in all the establishment is great but watch out for the old guy in shorts! He's an angry one.\r more

WOW!!! 11/8/2010

If you like to do drugs, enjoy lousy food, and even worse service, this place get 2 thumbs up!!! more

bloody great time 6/20/2010

I love The Celtic. The service is outstanding. Food is awesome and beer and scotch selection you cant beat. great place to have a party, especially because you can reserve rooms all to yourself.\r sometimes looks slow, but when you consider the size of the place..... But when its busy its insanity. sometimes you have to wait a bit for your drink, but thats a price you pay when you go someplace where the crowd is packed in like sardines.\r yes you can smoke there, they are a cigar bar after all, but delaneys next door is the non smoking bar. same food, same drinks, same staff and owners, only difference is the name and smoking policy.\r you big babies cry because you cant buy Guiness, which is nothing more than a name. you can get it everywhere, why don't you sophisticate your palette and have a murphy's (a true Irish beer, not a sell out)\r \r 5 stars, well done guys,\r \r by the way has anyone tried the awesome irish cofee's, best in town. Pros: service, food, scotch selection Cons: sometimes too busy and crowded more

Bad Service; too expensive for what it is; horrible DJs 4/19/2010

I had been told about this place for sometime because since it's so close to Coors Field in LoDo it gets a lot of business along with it's counterpart Delaney's. For what it's worth, the service is terrible at both places (expect to wait at least 10-20 minutes for a beer on any busy night) and the staff are rude. The prices are way too expensive for what they're worth. I guess they know they can jack things up because of their proximity to Coors. Due yourself a favor and head to Jackson's Hole if you're looking for a beer after the game (much cheaper and much friendlier staff). And, if you're looking for an Irish Pub head over to Katie Mullens on 16th and Court in Denver. The staff there is friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the food is great. Just my two cents.? Cons: food, drink prices, service more

Worst Service in Colorado 3/22/2010

This place is ridiculous. I was there with my wife during the St Patrick's Day Parade, and yes it was understandably busy and we expected that, but that's not an excuse for the service we got. We arrived early in the morning and paid the $5/person cover charge, and were told to order food from a waitress. After 40 minutes of being blatantly ignored by the wait staff (even after getting in front of a waitress and asking if we could order and her actually dodging me) I told the manager my problem and he told me not to complain, and when I asked for our cover charge back he said ""No way in Hell."" Nice place. So we left, went to another nearby Irish bar which was actually busier yet still maintained quality service. \r The Celtic is a joke and it's run by a bunch of incompetent people. I nor any of my friends will be going there again. Pros: Decent Bartender Cons: Poor Service, Poor Management, Bad Smell more

Best (and almost only) smoking venue in LoDo 12/28/2008

I have been going to The Celtic ever since it first opened around 8-9 years ago. It may not be fully ""authentic Irish"", but it is certainly more so than ""Faux-do"" (Fado) near Coors Field. They have a great selection of beers, the ambience is very casual, and (if you happen to smoke), it's just about the only game in town (unless you want to fork over wads of cash to watch strippers at The Diamond Cabaret, or hang out at the rather stuffy Churchill Bar at the Brown Palace). There is also (usually) a live band playing on Saturday nights. \r If you'd rather not deal with the smoke, you can just wander next door to their sister pub, Delaney's (where they have live music on Fridays).\r Slainte! Pros: Ambience (smoke and all), beer selection Cons: A bit testosterone-heavy some nights more

Friendly staff, great food 7/3/2008

Ate here for lunch. We had heard/read mixed reviews. I really enjoyed the interior. Very big, and spacious (well without a whole crowd of people). Lots of dark wood that made it feel cozy. The wait staff was very friendly and happy to see us. I had the eggplant parm sandwhich, Oh my lord! Really really tasty! Hubby went with the Burger topped with Pepper Jack and Bacon. He really enjoyed it as well! We would definitely come back during the evening (gotta try their cider) and again for lunch!\r Pros: Great food, great staff, lots of seating Cons: Parking more

Nothing special, but not terrible 2/26/2008

I don't find this to be some down to earth Irish bar. It's more like your typical Lodo trendy place. Overall, it's OK, nothing great about it, but nothing too bad about it. The staff is friendly and they usually make strong drinks, so that's good. Otherwise, it's just a typical Lodo bar. Pros: strong drinks Cons: not different from anywhere else in Lodo more

Best Pub in Denver, I think! 2/23/2008

The Celtic Tavern is the best bar in downtown denver. Only located a block from Bar Alley in LODO, it is the perfect place to get into the hub bub of the downtown scene without having to deal with the sexually charged frat boys usually found at LODOs. Authentic Irish with a scandinavian twist...they care sbout what they serve and how they serve it. Having Murphy's Stout just goes to show how much they want to stay true to their roots (as it is brewed in Ireland and Guiness served in the U.S. comes from Canada). Food is yummy and the service is great! Bartender's are quick, they can pour a great stout or serve a wide variety of shots. Servers are Hot and attentice. What more can you ask for. Pros: Great Staff Cons: Parking more

Best Service & Damn Good Burgers 9/28/2006

My boyfriend & I & a friend went to this bar, randomly, while in Denver to see Social Distortion. We were looking for a good Irish Pub & found it! We had the best service from all bartenders. The friend & I ordered food. I got a burger ordered medium-rare, and it was like a steak on a bun it was so good. The friend got the fish & chips which he had only good things to say about. The drinks were poured strong & the prices were right. I have told everyone & their dog about the awesome burger that I had & we would all definately go back if we're ever in Denver again. Pros: Just about everything about this bar rocks. Cons: Depending on when you go, there may be a heavy frat boy/sorostitute vibe, which really turns me off. more

Andrew James Band 2/28/2006

Saturday nights at the Celtic Tavern translates into the Andrew James Band. A lot of rock-n-roll and blues by a band with personality. They keep the dancers dancing, the conversation lively, and the establishment packed. If you are in LoDo on a Saturday night and you aren't at the Celtic Tavern, then you missed it. Pros: band, dance, friendly more

Irish Bar? 2/11/2005

An Irish bar that does not serve Harp's? Yeah, right. I tried the Donegal fish & chips($10.95)...all chips. Fish was lightly battered, as advertised, but was thin and chewy. Way overpriced. Compared to New York and Boston Irish bars, this place does not measure up. And don't wait until the last minute to use the restroom(s), which are located after going down a long fight of stairs and down two hallways, you may not make it. Reminds me of the Bruce Willis dungeon scene in ""Pulp Fiction"" more

Cider!! 2/13/2004

The Celtic Tavern has really great cider...so good, I can't remember the name of it! I thought the food was great for Irish fare. I'd definitely go back! Pros: Cider, Food more

Irish through and through 3/7/2003

Vicenzo has obviously not been to Dublin recently, or he would recognize the ambience. The Irish owners brought over the bar from Ireland! Great food and service, but laid back atmosphere. A great place to relax and hang out with friends. Pros: service, selection, atmosphere Cons: crowded more

Great Bar!! 3/7/2003

The Celtic Tavern is fun and an excellent atomsphere if you just want to have fun. The service is wonderful as well. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a good time. more

A few helpful hints: 2/10/2003

I was in the Celtic Tavern recently, on a Sunday night. Here's a few helpful hints: 1) No Guinness? Shameful. 2) When pouring a stout, there's really no rush; anyone that drinks stout knows this. 3) Referring to # 2, NEVER send a pint of stout to a customer with 2"" of foam sitting on top. You can imagine how customers might feel paying $4.50 for a ""pint"" when all they get is 14 ounces (or less). FILL THE BLOODY JAR! My experience was only so-so; this was a Sunday night - I could count the number of customers on two hands, so ""we're busy"" is not an excuse. (What is the service like when you ARE busy)? Pros: IT, WASN'T, BUSY Cons: FILL, THE, JAR more

Only for losers 12/6/2002

This place is a classic ""American"" version of an Irish pub. It's nothing like the real thing. It's a complete poser bar. Pros: Centrally located Cons: Not Irish at all more

  • In Short
With all its Irish authenticity, the Celtic Tavern might as well be smack dab in the middle of Belfast. This place is relaxing and friendly, and the staff knows the difference...
