$9.25 for a Well Mexican Martini? C'mon. How much is a topshelf $15? Cons: Bad Prices, No Parking

The Door is My Kind of Place! 1/30/2003

I have been to the Cedar Door on several occassions and the place oozes character! The bartenders and wait-staff are super friendly . I love the "Mexican" Martini. It is well worth the price when you consider the very large shaker glass that they serve it in. Beware-they are smooth and can sneak up on you if you are not careful! The only delima I have when I go to the Cedar Door is trying to decide where I want to sit. They have a cool deck with oak trees looking out at the Austin highrises or the inside bar with its old heavy wooden tables and chairs- which is cozy and intimate. If you are interested in a great place to relax and have a good drink I highly recommend the Cedar Door! It is truly an old Austin establishment unique to the city. Pros: Great Atmosphere, Best Mexican Martini, Cool Clientel more

Excellent Bar 1/15/2003

A great place to people watch at happy hour or late night. The drink prices are fair and the pours are heavy! The Mexican is served in a 16 oz shaker glass with REAL Tequila (Suaza to be specific) and a splash of lime juice. A nice change to the warehouse district and those other trending bars on 5th street. Pros: location, prices Cons: too much fun more

Cedar Door Rules! 1/14/2003

I've been several times during the week and on the weekends. The service has always been exceptional and the Mexican's are the best in Austin. No comparison to the cheap Tequila Trudy's and other bars are mixing in their Mexican's. On our last visit we met with the owners and they gave us a tour of their new beer garden. Great people, great location!! Pros: Friendly, Srong drinks Cons: No food more

Overpriced 11/12/2002

I went there on a Wednesday night and paid $9.25 for a Mexican Martini. A little pricey considering they are half the size of Trudy's Mexican Martini's and half as good. The bar itself was neat but there are plenty of cool bars in Austin that don't rip you off! I will stick to Trudy's! Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Drink Prices more

Editorial
  • Although it's seen many locations, Cedar Door has been a beloved Austin spot for over 30 years. Now situated on the ever-so energetic 4th Street, it sports an expansive happy-hour deck and a beer garden. Local office workers pour out of the buildings nearby to soak up the conversation and standard pub decor. This self-proclaimed home of the Original Mexican Martini certainly makes its argument well by using the smoothest tequilas. The favorite house shot is the Red Snapper--bourbon-based, with amaretto and cranberry. Recently introduced is Live Band Karaoke and Pint Night, where specials reign and patrons try their hand at showcasing their set of pipes!
