A package I was expecting was rerouted to this PO when I moved. By calling my the NYC PO in the neighborhood I used to live in, I found a package long missing had indeed been sent...

Editorial review from Citysearch 12/4/2013

It's a year later and nothing has changed. I just called the post office and spoke with a ""supervisor"" regarding non delivery of a package. Yesterday, the mail carrier rang my bell and stated I had a package. Two hours later when he hadn't brought the package I thought he had rang my bell in error. I then left to go to the store. I returned, went to pick up the mail and in my mailbox was a notice that I was not home when delivery of the package was attempted. So I explained to the supervisor what had happened yesterday and requested delivery of the package. He responded that I would have to go and pick up the package. I responded that I pay for shipping and handling that included delivery. He responded that ""that was my version and he would have to speak with the carrier to find out what happened but my request was not going to happen."" How inflammatory!!. I am amazed. First, when you order a package you pay for shipping and handling. Second, all you want is your package. What would be my motivation in misrepresenting what happened. Third, as a supervisor your role is to resolve issues. His resolution was for me to pick up the package from where it is now located. From now on and I would suggest this for others when ordering packages request only customer signatures. I ended by stating to the supervisor this is the reason postal employees receive no support from the public when there are calls to privatize the post office to increase efficiency, responsiveness and accountability. Cathedral is most definitely the WORST POST OFFICE. I always use the Columbus Ave post office which is so different. Unfortunately, issues regarding packages must be handled by Cathedral. So the only time I interact with Cathedral staff involves non delivery of packages. I would prefer not to have a relationship or interact with Cathedral at all. The staff at the Columbus Ave location is so different. They are wonderful, friendly and always helpful. Any problem there is resolved without rancor or acrimony. Not Cathedral. Their philosophy is to just present themselves for their tour of duty and collect their paycheck. more

The very definition of ""going postal"" 3/29/2012

A package I was expecting was rerouted to this PO when I moved. By calling my the NYC PO in the neighborhood I used to live in, I found a package long missing had indeed been sent here more than a week earlier. I called Cathedral to find out if they had it. They put me on hold---for 1/2 hour. No one came on, no one said ""please hold for a few minutes,"" or ""give me two minutes,"" they just put on the recording the second I told them I was calling to track a package. ,I's just their way of saying ""FU, customer, we hate you and we don't want no customers."" The USPS needs to root out the rot in this pit and replace incompetent, belligerent staff with federal employees grateful to be earning a living wage, not entitlement thieves who feel it is their constitutional right to do nothing in exchange for an honorable paycheck and a generous pension. Then the USPS goes whining about how it can't compete with the corporate shills at UPS and Fedex because it can't get proper funding. Uh uh. It's because there's so little accountability inside this rotted shell of an institution. more

The WORST post office! 10/10/2011

I waited on a super long line just to buy stamps because BOTH of the machines were out of order. VERY Unfriendly staff, and despite the fact that I went directly to the staff to mail a key and avoid any loss of the key, the recipient never received it!!! They need to close this post office down immediately or get someone who is competent to start running this place properly. more

BANE OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD!! 10/1/2011

I can't tell you how glad I am to see that I'm not the only one who hates, hates, hates this post office. The service is unconscionable! I have lived in the neighborhood since 1995 and I can't even count how many times this location has dropped the ball when it comes to package delivery. I will wait and wait and wait for packages that were supposed to arrive weeks earlier and then get a ""FINAL NOTICE"" slip in the mailbox. Final notice? What happened to the first notice? Or the second one, for that matter? The fact is, they never left them. They never attempted delivery. Oh, they'll say they did--but they lie. They're just lazy. Plain and simple. They do not do their job. My most recent run-in with them involved a package that had been sent initially through FedEx. It was a SmartPost package so the delivery was to be made through the local post office. After waiting nearly 10 days, I got in touch with FedEx only to find that they had left the package off at Cathedral Station 3 DAYS AFTER I HAD ORDERED IT. I then called them to find my package and to complain. When I began to do so, the girl on the phone said, ""Okay, hold on..."" and placed me on hold...for 10 minutes. I hung up and called back. It rang 3 times. She picked up the phone and hung it up. I then called back again and was put on hold for another 10 minutes. I called yet again. The phone rang 25 times and then clicked off. After finally getting through to someone, they located the package. I went in to pick it up the next day--and proceeded to wait in line for almost an hour. Each person in the line ahead of me had to wait 15-20 minutes for their package to arrive at the window. I wanted to kill someone and so did everyone else in line (including one girl who loudly complained that she'd just moved to the city and had to track down 10 packages that were delivered to this hole without her knowing it...) This place is a pit of disrespect, laziness, arrogance and meanness. They should be ashamed of themselves. CLOSE IT DOWN! more

CLOSE THIS POST OFFICE DOWN!!!!!! 9/11/2011

This is the WORST service EVER! The workers are a miserable bunch and you can spend hours there just trying to buy stamps. The lines are ALWAYS ridiculous and the clerks have the nerve to give you attitude once you get up there. My mail person is WONDERFUL however whenever she is away I have to deal with yet ANOTHER MISERABLE human being. Just rude as can be. She gossips about people she delivers mail to and LOUDLY! I paid for a PRIORITY mail package (food) and they claimed to leave a notice THEY NEVER DID! This always happens when our regular girl is away. They literally lied and the package was still not here 12 days later! RIDICULOUS! Please fire everyone, clean up the disgusting mess that this post office is AND start again or just CLOSE IT DOWN! I'd rather be inconvenienced by having to find another than deal with these Horrible miserably unhappy bunch of monstors! The one UPSIDE to this horrible place is the fact that everything I mail OUT seems to arrive immediately. more

fastest delivery 2/19/2010

like what the others said, the service can be incredibly lacking. However - the speed the mail goes out is unprecedented. I'm born and raised in the area, and I can tell you there is no post office around that sends mail out faster than this one, I think their mail goes to the main mail area more frequently than some of the others....so take it for what it is. At the end of the day, you don't care how nice they are, as long as they do their job. And when it comes to sending out the mail....they do that very well. Pros: fastest outgoing mail Cons: service is lacking more

Horrible Service, Extremely Rude Staff 2/19/2010

if i could i would not give this post office any starts. extremely rude staff, gossiping about customers behind the window, extremely unfriendly, did not say or do one slightly polite, professional, or nice thing while I was there. i would highly HIGHLY avoid this post office. again, the staff is incredibly, incredibly, rude. Pros: nothing Cons: everything more

The worst post office EVER 8/5/2009

Did you know they hire Zombies to work at this post office? If you call to complain, they either don't answer the phone (for hours) or hang up on you. Take something to eat and drink -- you will be in line a long time -- and something to read. Like War and Peace. Yes, you will be there that long. Pros: It's close to where I live Cons: Employees are rude at worst, indifferent at best more
