Best

Finally got to go to casimir with my friends... very nice little bistro on avenue B.... french typical food...

Worst

They tried to fake us out by putting a pile of cooked livers under some lettuce saying it was terrine de foie gras! If that's what their regular terrine de foie gras is, then it's...

Don't be misled by other reviews 9/25/2003

This is a nice restaurant with good food. The service is poor during peak hours, but overall it is a place that I will visit again. I recommend any of the duck dishes, but stay away from the escargo. Pros: Good Food, Nice Atmosphere Cons: Below Average Service more

don't be misled by idiots 9/2/2003

this restaurant serves consistently yummy food, the wines are very good, the ambiance is mellow and sexy, and the service is just fine. the only problem i see is the neighborhood it's in - it's definitely a more upscale place than every other dump on avenue b. perhaps that's why the boors who rated it poorly disliked it - they're expected to behave like civilized humans instead of the vulgar animals spilling out of the dives down the block... Pros: mussel appetizer, wine list, lighting Cons: crappy neighborhood more

No excuse for that type of behavior 4/15/2003

I made a reservation for this place in the afternoon specifically for an outdoor table. When we arrived, the guy near the garden(who later said that he was the manager) was horribly rude. First, he didnt even look me in the eye when I asked about our reservation. Then he insisted that they didnt take reservations for the garden. I can understand that type of policy but he was thoroughly unapologetic. He basically insinuated that I was lying about the reservation and shooed us to the bar. Ive been to so many restaurants in New York that are more popular and have never been treated like that. There is no way that I will ever go back. Cons: horrible service more

deeelish 2/27/2003

this is an amazing place- i've been going for three years now, and have yet to have a negative experience. i've gone with dates, for birthdays or just to hang out. the ambiance is amazing, the french waiters are extremely cute and charming, the food is great and the prices are to match-plus in the summer the courtyard is wonderful. definitely check it out. more

Rude, Boring, Expensive 2/4/2003

One of first things you learn in the restaurant business is not to make fools of your clientle. I went for dinner with group of friends. Had a very nice Vaqueras. Ordered a second bottle of the same wine which turned out to be completely corked. Four astute wine drinking friends confirmed this. However the manager, who refused to come to our table to discuss it, said we were wrong (through the poor waitress) and would not replace our bottle. Not only did he ruin our dinner, but we'll never go back. Wouldn't it have been a better investment to humor us even if we had completely full of it? Listen, I can get steak frite, duck confit, salade au chevre anywhere... it's about details, it's about taking care of your customers. Pros: Don't have to go back, Better place close by Cons: Poorly managed, Wrong attitude, Tired Menu more

Upscale Neighborhoody 12/16/2002

Pretty good food for a neighborhood place. I wouldn't expect it to be as good as it is. Recently I had the salmon while my friend had the halibut and both were really good. Desserts- also good. Nothing groundbreaking but I had no real complaints The atmosphere is pleasant enough, just don't sit near the window if it's very cold outside. You'll freeze. Service is very pleasant, but a little careless. The backup service (runners, bussers, etc.) was great though. more

What a lovely, little place! 12/2/2002

Stopped by for an early dinner on Sunday and this place is just about the coziest neighborhood joint around. Everyone seemed to know each other, and added to the warm ambiance. Our order was taken immediately; the food was excellent and served quickly. Most of us ordered their specials and they were definitely special (fresh, yummy, straightforward). Their mixed drinks weren't so good, but they have nice selection of wines. The prices are very reasonable and if you're looking for a place to become a regular, this one's a smart choice. more

yummy & hip 11/26/2002

i went with a party of six & was seated almost immediately. we had very good service, delicious filet mignon, a cute & friendly bartender, a very good, but inexpensive wine.... what more could one ask for! i loved the ambience... it's a hip crowd... i highly recommend it! Pros: reasonable prices, hip crowd more

Quick and dirty French 11/19/2002

Nice atmosphere; it's dark and European. Not too expensive, attractive people. Accomodating staff. Try the filet. more

nice place 11/8/2002

the food is good and inexpensive. the wait staff was helpful. the atmosphere is nice. maybe one too many of the beautiful people there. Pros: good food Cons: little too trendy more

Try it! 11/4/2002

If you want to try french food, this is a cheap place with a nice ambiance. Romantic garden at the back. more

WHAT HAPPENED? 11/2/2002

i went when it first opened years ago and it was GREAT..been there recently and it's horrible-the food was so blah..the french onion soup was soooooo salty and i told the waitress and she just stood there with this look like:""well..what do you want me to do about this?"" not mean or anything but hello! why don't you take it away and offer me another one or something else. But i also seem to have been disturbing her intimate/physical relationship with her male friend who was seated at the next table outside in the garden. Cons: food, service, food more

great nights 10/9/2002

The food is fresh and delicious. The wine, wonderful. Casimir is a great getaway on the east side. Fun atmoshpere for small parties. Have dinner and stay for drinks. This is one of our favorites in the winter. Pros: ambience, food selection Cons: gets busy more

Wonderful Brunch 9/3/2002

I really recommend coming here for brunch. The omlettes and french toast were to die for. And you can't beat $4 profiterole rolls. The ambience was lovely, like a corner french bistro with a Moroccan touch. I see that some others reviewers were complaining about bad service, but I have to say that our service was very nice and attentive, with no signs of the rude management. So my advice is come for brunch. The added bonus: it's quiet and you'll be seated right away! Pros: Excellent Food, Cute Environment, Quiet more

consistently bad 8/1/2002

I must admit, though I have never been the object of it, I have observed consistently rude (sometimes even appaling) behavior mostly from management. These guys don't care about their customers. I don't even think they care that much about the food. It's about getting your money people! It's hip and cool and even though they have more attitude than all the bistros in NYC combined it's still scarily popular! And the food isn't even that great. Pros: price, hipness Cons: rudeness, mediocre food more

Don't Miss the Filet Mignon 7/2/2002

Medium rare, tender, peppercorn sauce, and only $16. I come back for it (or the salmon) about once a month. Great ambience. Last night I brought friends from out of town and all of our entrees were delicious. Our waitress was exceptionally friendly and attentive. Pros: Reasonable, Comfortable, Nice portions Cons: Crowded more

Simply PATHETIC...Pay for ABUSE? 6/18/2002

This place is WAY OVER. Why pay to be ABUSED? They seem to really be into degrading their customers. Someone should remind them that they are in the SERVICE industry. Maybe they think they 'obnoxious' is in? Who knows, who cares. If you want the real thing with real service, try Le Gamin on 5th or Belmondo's across the street, but do yourself a favor, don't waste your time or money at Casimir. So many other places in the neighborhood are so much more deserving. And authentic. Pros: none, none, none Cons: staff, staff, staff more

Astounding continued 6/15/2002

The clincher was when my friend mentioned to the manager that we had a problem, before even mentioning what it was, he said ""let me guess; you didn't eat your entire meal and don't think you should have to pay for the whole thing"". What??! When she mentioned the above problems (and left out the fact that our waitress was rude and condescending), he told her she didn't know what she was talking about. As we were leaving he started to berate another guest in our group, saying things like ""do you ever eat out in restaurants""? This man appears to have a serious hostility problem. The food is just ok, not at all worth having to put up with the disgusting staff, the manager/owner in particular. more

Don't bother! 6/5/2002

It's a shame you can't even sample the food or sit in what is a very nice space. The host/maitre d is so unapologetically rude that it's not worth even walking into this place. If you're looking to be berated and talked down to, this is your spot! The ownership of this place needs to realize that there are thousands of restaurants in Manhattan and people have a choice of where they eat. There are a lot better restaurants with far less attitude. Don't bother! Cons: rude, attitude more
