Haven't been in a while, but one of my favorite restuarants 4/23/2010

Good: Well, my favorite food is pasta, anything with pasta! And they have a lot of it... I love dark lighting, it makes it very romantic and very calming after a long day.. Bad: Some of their waiters act very stuck up, like they're too good to serve you. I've seen it a few times, that some of the staff didn't feel the need to be friendly. The prices are a little high, and this is usually why my family and I only visit on special occasions.. Improvements: I guess the staff, it doesn't rub off too well when you have to wonder where your waiter is, or get treated crappy!. Other: I just moved back from Seattle after a year of living there, read some reviews of people saying it went down hill... so I'm not sure about that, I'll have to go back and see for myself!. more

Average 9/15/2006

We went there for my birthday with eight people. Service was slow, food was alright but nothing special, portions pretty good size, prices somewhat expensive, noise level in that place was very high. They did sing a song (an italian blessing) for my birthday and I got a free dessert. We were a little disappointed that the food wasn't any better. We were wondering a little bit about the arrangement of the tables because it seemed to be extremely close to other tables and the weightress had problems reaching everyone to serve them. more

Carrabba's rocks! 7/17/2006

While the prices may seem expensive, you also get a TON of food! well worth the price. The food is made fresh everyday and the service I have received every time was wonderful. carrabba's has been in portage a couple years now and i think it just keeps getting better. my brother loves the pasta carrabba....fettuccine alfredo with peas and mushrooms. one of my favorites is the rigatoni martino....yum! finally, a decent restaurant in this town! more

Poor service/average food at Carrabba's Italian Grill in Portage 7/11/2006

Poor service with a side order of "who gives a darn -- they're only customers." I had heard from others that the service at Carrabba’s in Portage had gone down hill but I figured how bad could it be. Well, it was horrible, almost non-existent service and average, at best, food. You’ve been warned – never, ever go to this place. Here is what happened. Tonight, July 11, 2006 we arrived a few minutes after nine p.m. Ordered at 9:15 and received our salad or soup about 10 minutes later. A half hour later hour waitress, let’s just call her Kay, wandered over and asked us how it was going at our table. No so great. I asked how it was going in the kitchen and Kay flippantly informed us she had no idea, but she was having a great night and she never worried about what was going on in the kitchen. Fifteen minutes later, the "manager” wandered over to advise that there "was a problem with the ticket" and that was why it had taken so very long. We were told it would be out in five or six minutes and the manager would pick-up our tab, except for the one alcoholic drink my spouse had ordered. Fifteen minutes later Kay the waitress wandered over and advised that mashed potatoes that my daughter ordered weren't available any longer. We asked that they just put what we had ordered in boxes and we would take it to go. About 8 minutes later the meal finally arrived. The waitress insinuated that we were lucky because it was a $50.00 meal and we got it for free. No apology. Hmmmmm. They might as well have kept the food. Irritation had replaced hunger about 45 minutes before this. more

Yay, a Carrabba's in Portage 4/10/2006

My husband and I were so excited when we saw the new Carrabba's in Portage. The first time we ate at a Carrabba's was in Florida, years ago. We fell in love with it instantly! The Portage Carrabba's is a little smaller than the average, but the food and service is just as wonderful. We try to go in the early evening, as close to 4:00 as possible, or else there will be a wait. I LOVE the complimentary bread and the seasoned dipping oil. The booths feel private and the whole restaurant has a nice atmosphere. more

I love Itallian! 4/9/2006

If you want some good Italian food this is the place to go. It is a bit pricey but the food is amazing and I always have left overs! The atmosphere of this restaurant is nice - the lighting is dimmed, and depending on where you are sitting you can actually see the cooks in action! Depending on what time you go you might have to wait in line for a while but it is far worth it! The bread they start you off with is amazing - it's soft and warm and the dipping sauce for it taste great! more

Carrabba's 4/3/2006

I was so excited last year when I learned that we were getting a Carrabba's Italian Grill, my boyfriend and I had been driving up to Grandville monthly to get our Carrabba's fix. It is a bit pricey, but we've found that we can easily split a meal (typically the Sirloin or Chicken Marsala) and still leave full. I highly recommend any of their Marsala dishes and their Manicotti when it is available. Their creamy parmasean dressing is a great alternative to the typical house dressing. The service at the Portage location is usually very good, though there is sometimes a lengthy wait time. We've also found that when sitting at their first-come first-serve bar tables you can easily be overlooked, so be sure to tell the hostess you will be sitting there and would like to order food. Also, their takeout service is great and the food reheats very well. more
