Out of Business.....located in Nob Hill. The restaurant has been closed for over 6 months now. Wondering where they moved to???? Hope its still in the Portland area. more

Pretty good, but what's all the hype about? 2/28/2007

Yo, Portland's top 10 new restaurant? this would not make my list for sure. Take it from someone who's been around Portland's restaurant scene for a long time. At best, I'd say the food is above average. My group ordered 6 dishes - everyone was 'highly recommended' by the wait staff - and, since we ate family style, I got to try a bit of each. I can't say there was one dish that left an impression or even inticed me for another bite (and I was HUNGRY). more

Best Food in Portland 2/13/2007

This is the best find in Portland. I have had dinner here twice and both times the food has been outstanding. The place is casual, fun. The type of place you want to linger after dinner, no need to rush or feeling of being rushed. Not many places like this in Portland. Try anything they are doing with fish, you won't go wrong. The drinks are excellent too. Pros: Great food, drinks and atmosphere. more

NEVER USE A DEBIT/CREDIT CARD HERE!!! 2/6/2007

We received a flyer on our doorstep from Callaloo promoting their superbowl platters a week before the game. When i called to place my order the employee had no idea what i was talking about and had to tranfer me to ""a manager"". I placed my order with the owner for a platter which should have been $37.00 total. Two days later looking at my bank account i noticed that i had been charged once for $38.50 (which is not $37.00) and another charge the next day for $80.40! I called and spoke with the owner who apologized and said he had no idea how this could happen and that he would be right on it. After a few hours passed i had to call the owner back to see what was to be done, he said that a credit for the charges would be placed on my card and $37.00 would be put on for the actual order, never once apologizing for the gross negligence or offering a way to smooth things over. As someone who works in the restaurant business I find this to be horrific customer service. A day later i check my account again to make sure the correct charge was on there and now i had a $37.00 charge as well as a charge for $67.00. My husband called the owner and again received no apology and no explanation and was in every way rude and incapable of offering anything in the way of customer service. Only AFTER threats to involve the police for fraud/identity theft were we able to get a reponse (we'll get the charges reversed sometime in next month). After all of this we now have to call our bank to disspute the charges and get a new card since it would appear that someone at this restaurant is using our card number to charge things repeatedly. I discourage anyone from going here. P.S. the food we got wasn't that great to begin with. more

Awesome Caribbean Escape in Portland 1/29/2007

Great Staff, food, drink are always delightfully stiff and delicious. Kurt, Bear, and Rada are the best bartenders in Portland-they can muddle a mean drink and its never a bad concoction. Yeah thats how friendly and layed back it is-everyone is a friend and valued customer. The eats are mouth-watering and exotic. You get what you pay for and a whole lot more. Romantic date friendly and happy hour is jumpin for a more casual date. Check it out! Pros: Everything Cons: a shame if you never get there more

Best Drinks for your Value 9/12/2006

We came for happy hour and it was well worth it! The food was excellent, a little overpriced but it was tasty. The drinks are awsome! $4 tropical cocktails on the menu are so good and are not weak. The mojito is decadent. $2 Red stripes are a cool deal too! more

Great Late Night Spot 7/6/2006

I live in upper NW, between 21st and 23rd. I get so tired of the same spots, smokey dives and the same drinks. I was walking twards the pearl on Thursday night and came across Callaloo. Right when we walked in I knew this was going to be an awesome time. The bartender was super nice, and friendly. Then I saw the happy hour specials! two buck redstripes and a whole cocktail list for four bucks, I couldent belive it. My friends and I stuck around for a few rounds drank outside then looked at the food menu. It was around 10:30 so it was a ""reduced"" menu but I thought it was great, there was no chickenstrips and fries instead there was piles of calamari, an awesome cheeseburger with onions, pickles, and a sweet glaze, and chicken and bannana skewers. Its a great date place, non smoking, classy and so not expensive. more

Fun Dinner 7/5/2006

My boyfriend and I just had dinner there the other night for my birthday. Our server was very knowledgeable about both the wine list and dinner menu. We started with a bottle of wine, shared a great fresh green salad, with goat cheese and a zesty house dressing. Of course my boyfriend had the steak while I had to try something a little different, the bajan chicken. It was fantastic! Everything was really great the service the food and the price. Pros: Dinner, wine list, and service Cons: street parking more

Stiff cocktails, some hits, some misses on the food. 7/4/2006

The key to a great evening here is to know what is worth ordering since the menu is a bit uneven in terms of its winners. The appetizers are all just OK- no standouts in my opinion though others enjoyed the conch fritters/cakes. The callaloo stew is -despite the name, a clear winner delivering a mouthful of complex flavors yet not too heavy for a warm summer evening. The Bajan chicken is also quite good and the jerked pork is something else to behold. The other entrees however left me underwhelmed. Did not try the desert as the drinks are just too good. Pros: Drinks, some entrees Cons: cost of some entrees stretches the imagination more

Fun and Lively, Great Girls Night Out! 6/28/2006

I went there for dinner with 5 girlfriends. We had the best time ever. We go out to all the new restaurants in Portland and this by far is our favorite. The drinks were fruity and fresh and the bartenders were a lot of fun. We moved into the dining room for dinner and were very impressed. Our server was helpful and knowledgeable guiding us throught the menu. I had a salad with plantains, goat cheese and a really good dressing. Then I had the bajan chicken which was the best ever. I brought my husband back to try it the next weekend and he loved it as well. We ordered one of every dessert and they were all soo good. Colorful and decadent. My favorite was the coconut flan. I can't wait to go back and bring more friends. Pros: fun atmosphere, amazing food and fresh cocktails more

Weak 6/25/2006

Island fare for those who have never been to the islands and dont plan to. Flavors were weak and menu was over priced for the quality. Wanted it to be good, and it just wasnt. Just an opinion from an island dweller. Pros: Cocktails Cons: Food more

Lunch and dinner - great service and outside seating next to olive trees. 6/21/2006

The Island fruit salad is excellent as is the pulled pork sandwich. Where else in Portland can you get real conch fritters? It's excellent. The prices for lunch are very reasonable. For dinner they seemed a little high until you see what goes into the recipes. Some of the ingredients are very exotic fruits and vegetables so I'm sure they are more expensive. Have the mango iced tea. It was delightful and the service was great. I'll be back. Oh - and the dessert was really good!! more

Disapointment 6/18/2006

I was excited to try this new spot just around the corner. I enjoyed the updates they have made to the space, but when we arrived at dinner time mid-week, the place was empty, killing any atmosphere. Overall I was shocked by the prices for this island fare. The flavors were nearly non-existant, and the waitstaff pushed all of the highest priced menu items. I hear their hot sauce is good, but I wont be back to try it. more

Great island atmosphere. 6/10/2006

Having traveled to the islands a couple of times, I was glad to see some real island drinks, ingredients and atmosphere having made it to Portland. This is a great place to kick back and leave stress behind for a while. I have had the Painkiller (drink) from the soggy dollar bar in the BVI, and this one would make them proud. Happy hour, or 'Island Time"" as they call it is excellent, with great food and a $2.00 red stripe in hand how can you go wrong. Also a great date place with a warm dining room and nice chairs. The food and service are very good. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: street parking more
