Coffee and pastries are truly yummy delicacy. Best coffee and hot chocolate that I have ever had. However, beware of a roughly mid 50s female server who gave unreasonable comment ...

exceptional coffee 11/4/2009

top of the line coffee house in a great spot of north end. the cigar bar below is so awesome. love to get a cup and espresso and hit the cigar bar Pros: great coffee Cons: service could be better at times more

overrated 4/12/2008

everybody likes to go there. but i don't find this place stands out in any particular way. desserts and coffee are ok but nothing spectacular; wait staff is inattentive bordering on unfriendly (and we didn't even go in rush hour or occupying the table for hours w/o second rounds of food & drinks). i don't see why's the hype.\r \r one time i went there and was enticed by their considerable list of ice-cream flavors on the menu. but when i ordered it, they only had 2 or 3 in stock (not that they ran out but they actually don't make them). so why not take them off the menu already?\r :) Pros: hanover hot spot, great people watching Cons: confusing seating system (do i seat myself or what), items on menu not available, old furniture & decor more

Best cappuccino and tiramisu! 1/29/2008

After dinner in the north end, my wife and I decided to check this place out. There was no wait, so we sat ourselves at a table. The waitress was very polite, and helped explain some of the items we weren't sure about. Everything on the menu sounded delicious, so we decided on cappucino, tiramisu, and a canoli. It was delicious, I've never tasted cappucino quite like this. Also the atmosphere in the cafe was great, it felt like you were right in Italy. Overall, I highly recommend this place, and would definately go back again. Also if you smoke, check out Stanza dei Sigari located right downstairs. Pros: Cappucino, tiramisu, canoli, atmosphere, and service more

Terrible service 10/13/2007

We stumbled in here because they had 2 TVs to catch the Red Sox game on and also, the line at Mike's was too long. Our waitress was seriously the rudest I've ever encountered. I'm not sure if she is the same one the other reviewers on here have complained about, but from descriptions, I think it might be the 50-some year old woman with short brownish hair. While she was taking our orders, one of my friends spent a little bit longer deciding and instead of telling us she'd be back when she was ready, just walked away from our table without saying anything. She really just gave the impression that she really did not give a care about us and that we were beneath her. I'm not sure if she was agist (gainst 20-somethings) since she seemed to scowl a bit less at the couple behind us in their mid-40s? Also, the menu does not have prices and at the end, instead of giving us a bill with the items and total listed, she just verbally told us the price. I thought this was a little odd for any eating establishment to do? She took our paid bill while we were still sitting there eating and counted it out right in front of our table. It was simply one of the most tactless things I have ever seen.\r \r Foodwise, I got the blackberry gelato and it was really not that great. It also seemed like ice cream rather than gelato. It was creamier and had a more sticky quality than gelato normaly has. I would probably never come here again. Pros: have 2 TVs, looks cozy Cons: Awful service, gelato more

Would be good if the server actually valued customers 4/14/2007

My friend and I visited this cafe to chat and study over coffee and dessert. Two hours into our stay a rude server (loud and rather abrupt), in her mid-fifties with short blondish hair, approached the table and rudely told my friend that they don't like people staying that long because they're busy. I had been checking around throughout our stay to make sure we were not occupying a needed table; although it was getting busier, there was in no way, shape, or form a scarcity of tables. We spent less than 5 minutes wrapping up our chatting/work, when we heard this server yelling to another server near the front of the restaurant: ""Are they still here?!? I told them to leave!!!"" That is not only embarrassing to us as customers, but horribly rude and unappreciative of our business. We were paying customers throughout our stay. If we hadn't been studying would we have been kicked out for having a lengthy conversation? Although the coffee and dessert was good (which I had to box up to finish at home, as we were told to leave), there are too many other wonderfully delicious places to go in the North End that have a pleasant environment where you don't risk getting ""yelled at"" by staff. Pros: Good coffee Cons: Nasty service more

Best Cap 1/18/2007

YEAAAAA yea YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA this is a pick me up cappicino YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA start your day with a yea Pros: to go on the go Cons: love it all more

Why get coffee and dessert anywhere else? 11/22/2006

When I eat in the North End, I always skip getting dessert at the restaurant, walk right past the long lines at Mike's Pastry, and head right to Cafe Vittoria for the best cappachino in the Northeast and some of the best tiramisu in the North End. They also have great gellato, canolis, cake, and coffees, and the relaxed atmosphere invites lounging and talking to friends for hours. One of my favorite places in Boston. Pros: Cappachino and tiramiu more

Manager is The Man 8/11/2006

I think Kenny is a awesome man & manager, & can melt a womans heart\r Kenny I will always love you baby Pros: This place is #1 Cons: Nothing more

Unbelievably awesome!!! 10/31/2005

We found this café just by chance but their cappuccino and tiramisu were unbelievably tasty! I can say I had the best cappuccino and tiramisu in my life there! And the atmosphere was cool and relaxing, and their service was kind and friendly. I already miss the café and I definitely will go back whenever I go to Boston from next time. Even if you are NOT cappuccino and tiramisu lover, seriously, I recommend you to try them!!! I am so much sure you will change your mind! Pros: taste, value, service Cons: ???I cannot find... more

Amazing cappuccino and tiramisu! 10/30/2005

My wife and I were walking around aimlessly and happened to stumble into this place, knowing nothing about it. We were more than pleasantly surprised. The cappuccinos we ordered were as impressive to look at as they were tasty - as soon as we saw them, we knew we'd found something special! (They seem to use a hint of melted chocolate drizzled over the top, in addition to the standard cinammon.) Deep, strong coffee without a hint of bitterness. I also order tiramisu whenever I see it on a menu, and I can honestly say that this was the best I've ever had. (There are some places in NYC that are close, but Vittoria edges them out.) The ambience is a bit low-rent, but substance triumphs over style here. Good service too! Pros: Great food and drink, Good service, Low prices Cons: low-rent ambience more

eccellente 2/13/2005

I stopped at the cafe for a bit during he blizzard we had recently. The waitstaff was excellent and quite welcoming with bright smiles to warm me up. The manager, excuse me for this description as I didnt ask his name, reminded me of a cross between mr clean and kojack. He was very helpful in the selection of a cigar for me and seemed to take the time to say hello to just about everyone who came in while I was there. I felt very welcome and was able to sit and relax without being rushed. I can't wait to return and I will bring friends who I am sure will also enjoy the great pastries and an ambiance that I've found to be quite enjoyable. A+++ Pros: atmosphere, waitstaff, management Cons: parking, expected more

European taste and style 3/16/2003

Cafe Vittoria is an and readily discovered by tourists in the summer. I've been with groups of friends and on dates. Their coffees and pastries are wonderful, and it's a great place to sit and talk over the sweets -- Soaking up the atmosphere, especially in the winter, when you will see more locals, and they have a liquor license for cordials, etc. I will admit, service can be a role of a dice, especially on busy summer nights, and I can see where the culture/atmosphere would not welcome a loner, even if purchasing and writing away, which would be no problem in most American style cafes or coffee shops but Vittoria is really more of a European style meeting place -- So I would chalk it up to just a culture clash, nothing more than that. Pros: Inexpensive, Atmospheric, European Cons: Difficult Parking, Inconsistent Service more

Wonderful coffee but rude server!! 3/8/2003

Coffee and pastries are truly yummy delicacy. Best coffee and hot chocolate that I have ever had. However, beware of a roughly mid 50s female server who gave unreasonable comment during my two and a half hours' stay. I made two rounds of order, but still brought me an unreasonable comment of staying there too long and treated the place as a library (I did some readings there). What a nasty server!! Anyway, good luck when you are there! Pros: Inexpensive, Great coffee Cons: RUDE server more

Perfect place to go after dinner 1/19/2003

My girlfriend and I went here on our first visit to the North End after seeing the line at Mike's. Several months later, we still haven't been to Mike's because we don't want to miss a chance to go to Caffe Vittoria. Great pastries, cappacini, gelatto, and after dinner drinks. Pros: great deserts, authentic ambiance Cons: service can be slow more

nice little cafe 10/31/2002

Has a pretty big selection of desserts and coffee. Nice atmosphere although the service can be slow. You can have a nice conversation, there isn't any rush. Pros: relaxed, good capuccino Cons: no parking, service slow, little expensive more

This is the North End 10/14/2002

Visit the ""old ground level"" part of Cafe V. in the mid afternoon, and get a taste of a true Boston landmark while sipping a cafe mocha and packing away a pastry. All the staff are locals, no out of town college kids working here. I love the place! And one more time on the jute box - Volari - please. Pros: Goof coffee, pastry, atmosphere, atmosphere more

Classy 7/25/2002

This is one of the most classy coffee places in the North End. It has an Italian feel but it's not as authentic Italian as many of the other cafe's. Yet, it has the best decor and ambiance. The coffee is great...however the desserts could be better. Pros: inexpensive, nice decor Cons: hard to park more

Best TIRAMISU in the CITY 7/18/2002

An Old World Cafe that still does everything right. It's crowded for a reason, their coffee and desserts are worth waiting for and patrons always linger around for more. It's a great place to take a date and a sweet ending to a great meal in the North End. You'll always be sure to find a seat here despite the crowd because they've got downstairs seating as well. Whether you want to cozy up with a significant other or catch up with old times with friends, this is THE place to go without putting a dent in your wallet. more

Ahhhhh.... 6/13/2002

Its Friday night...late at night....you've just finished eating.....now you're walking with your girl(or boy)friend along the streets of the North End..... You hear noise...laughter, conversation, the hissing of an espresso machine....the smell of canole's.... A great way to end the night, especially if you are already in the North End. That quick cup of espresso primes you up for the long drive - or walk! - home! more
