Cafe Vittoria is an and readily discovered by tourists in the summer. I've been with groups of friends and on dates. Their coffees and pastries are wonderful, and it's a great place to sit and talk over the sweets -- Soaking up the atmosphere, especially in the winter, when you will see more locals, and they have a liquor license for cordials, etc. I will admit, service can be a role of a dice, especially on busy summer nights, and I can see where the culture/atmosphere would not welcome a loner, even if purchasing and writing away, which would be no problem in most American style cafes or coffee shops but Vittoria is really more of a European style meeting place -- So I would chalk it up to just a culture clash, nothing more than that.
