Cafe Venice

I haven't been here for a little while, but I have to say if you want something different and unique, try Venice. The age range of the crowd is varied, so its a place anyone can go any feel comfortable. Try upstairs and downstairs! more

I got very disappointed once, at the beginning of July 2010, when I went to Venice cafe with at least 4 friends of mine and we have been surprised by a 5$ entrance fee. Then I realized that the man asking for a fee at the entrance door didn't release any receipt, in fact he didn't have a cash and he would only accept a payment in cash. Furthermore, I noticed that they didn't bring receipts for purchases either. How can they pay adequate income taxes if there is no track of their income? I wonder... more

I always take out of town friends to Venice - sometimes we stay, sometimes we move around and check out different spaots -I went one Sat eve with 4 friends eager to show them Venice. I told the doorman we were just planning on one drink, but if we stay longer HAPPY to pay door fee. He told us "pay fee regardless", so we left. Cheated themselves out of 4 drink purchases and possible door fees and Im hesitant to return... Pros: fun place - nice crowd Cons: chase away potential customers more

The Venice is absolutely the most interesting place I have ever been. The decor is amazing, the whole place is a work of art. If you haven't been here you really need to go!! Pros: Friendly atmosphere more

For me, by far, Venice Cafe always has been and still is the best spot in St. Louis. I shouldn't have to say more but I will explain why. 20 years ago, I used to read poetry there, and it was the only decent or even excellent place to read poetry in St. Louis. Now, it still has the best open mic in St. Louis by super far, but now the musicians are outstanding -with original accoustic music by excellent guitarists and singers including members of some of the most exciting bands who play around the area, this is the place. Also, open mic night is free. Drinks are reasonable with great people. What could be better? I am from St. Louis and have lived in Puerto Rico for over 20 years, and although I sing in many places and jam with salsa and rumba players there, no venue there compares with Venice Cafe. Those of you who like to perform at open mics or sing Karaoke, know what a hassle it is to perform at most places where people have no respect for music but only want to drink and watch people make fools of themselves. It is like heaven performing at Venice Cafe since the people in charge and the audience are extra suppotive, and the talent is first rate. So, if you can't keep a tune, you can do Karaoke at Blueberry Hill but you can check out some great talent at Venice Cafe. If you have talent and love music make sure that you go to Venice Cafe on Monday nights for the open mic excellence. Pros: Great music, drinks, ambience, talent, respect Cons: none more

Though it's small and crowded, the Venice is a must to experience. If you haven't got enough friends, just visit the Venice and step on the toes of some new friends. Beautiful outdoor garden where the music of the bands can waft out the open door. And ya gotta love the "World's Most Dangerous Poet." Pros: eclectic, crowded, walk on the wild side more

Venice is a great place to go from late spring to early fall. The outdoor courtyard is like no other place in St. Louis. The entire place is covered in art. I do not recomend going when the courtyard is not open. It is very small and loud inside. more
