""I've given Cafe Nova many chances, because I really want it to be good. It's in my neighborhood, the owners seem like really nice people, it looks fabulous, and I really want it to work. But, unfortunately, it just doesn't. The service is just terrible, and the food is often OK, but not great. \r
A couple of weeks ago, I took a friend who was visiting from Houston. When the waitress brought the wine list, it unfortunately had the same wines listed on both sides, so my friend asked for the full wine list. The waitress brought another list - this one with the full listing - and immediately after handing it to her, asked her what she'd like to order from it. My friend asked for a few minutes to actually look and was given about 30 seconds before she was asked again what she'd like to order from it - not cool.\r
My friend ordered the tenderloin, and I ordered the tuna. When our dishes arrived, her portion was amazingly small, and my tuna was amazingly overcooked. Both were served with a vegetable and lots of risotto. I have nothing against risotto, but it's not especially innovative, and not what I expected on a $25 entree. I actually sent my tuna back, which I really hate doing, because it's so high maintenance, but it was actually cooked so long that it was dry & white, and I could not eat it. When I explained to the waitress that it was very overcooked and I hoped she could take it back, she said that she wondered about it when she brought it out, because normally it's was quite pink when served, which led both my friend and I to wonder aloud why she brought it out at all. When she returned with a new & improved tuna dish, it was much better prepared, but still not especially exciting (more risotto). \r
My friend and I were contemplating desert when the waitress came by to ask us if we wanted the checks separate or together. She never even asked us if we'd like desert, and neither one of us felt like staying after that.
Pros: Swanky decor
Cons: terrible service, mediocre food
