Not the best service in town 7/10/2011

Had a party of 30 a few months ago so i thought I could bring them @ Layal for the live entertainment they had on friday, I was really disappointed at the service specifically when we needed refills or placing extra orders she would never show up, what was more disappointing was when we ordered six plates of the $10 appetizer it arrived 20 minutes late and when we started to eat up exactly less than 5 minutes our main orders arrived and this waitress just picked up the appetizers and took off with it, some of which haven't been touched yet... long story short at the end I argued about this move and disputed the bill but she insisted it was charged and the manager wasn't here to refund the 3 appetizer plates..... Won't go there again thats for sure!!! more

Terrible: staff lies to you, then Argues! STAY AWAY. 3/2/2011

You should be able to give a zero-star rating!! I went here a few years ago and it was okay (not great, but acceptible). This time, here's what happened: -Waiter never refilled water- we had to request more. -Beef was half fat cut up and grilled to look like beef. -Waiter gave me false info on what I would get. The server stood there and argued with me when I asked a simple question. Then he TOOK my food off the table, threw out half the fries, and put about a spoonful of hummus on there & brought it back with no pita- I had to ask someone else. Waiter flat out said the menu is wrong when it clearly says "All entres come with house salad, hummus, and pita". -Also, the staff can't speak English well at all, and forget ever trying to catch their eye-- they are OBLIVIOUS, even with only about 10 customers in the whole place. The only guy who even hinted at caring whatsoever told me it was his first week. -The guy who argued with me glared at me every time he walked by my table. I lost my appetite. more

Benefit of the doubt, i tried... 3/4/2010

I heard good reviews in real life about this place, so I had to check it out. I visited the first time with the intent of smoking shisha, I didn't have my card, rather I had the temporary paper that the DPS gives during a waiting period, the waiter didn't accept and took our drinks, we didn't want to leave, we were hungry. I ate, the food was alright. Second time I had my real card, they accepted, but the hookah was way overpriced, and they never clean out the coal for you unlike Ranoosh (highly recomend). The food, like the first time, took way to long (it was shawarma sandwich), about 30 minutes. They sneak in a 15% tip like Maryz (ripoff) and than expect you to pay another tip, seems like a scam, especially with the terrible service. I recommend Ranoosh. Pros: convenient location Cons: mediocre shisha and food; terrible service more

Formerly a great place to relax... 2/26/2010

A few years back, I attended Cafe Layal for the first time. I was really impressed, since I had never been to a hookah place before. It was never really full and most of the clientele was middle eastern. When I attended a few times recently after a long time of not being there, it was a change of 180 degrees; it was full of high schoolers (which I bet if they began carding again, half of the restaurant would be empty), both of the times that I went recently, it took almost 20 MINUTES just to place out order (one of the times, the place wasn't even full). It's sad to see that this place has completely gone to the dumps. I go there once in a while now, but my friends and I have been forced to look for other places that offer better service. Pros: cheap hookah and food Cons: takes forever to order, full of high schoolers more

Scam 10/10/2009

Beware of paying with credit card. I was told my credit card was declined (had plenty of limit on the card), so I gave them another one which they charged. 2 months later they charged me on the first card that they said they declined. So basically they double charged. If it happens to anyone beware of getting double charged which could be few months later. more

attend at your own risk! 9/23/2009

Nothing about this place is unique. I have been to this place quite a few times, each time watching them become bigger and bigger douceh bags. they have started forcing to pay to park. thats when you have to go park at fast eddie's and risk your car being towed. It normally takes 40 minutes for them to bring out your food. Your soda's will never get re-filled (so drink slowly). I have brought friends that dont smoke a couple of times, and the manager said they had to pay for hookah anyways. That def. makes business walk away. They are not friendly at all. unless your of their heritage, they don't seem like they care about you. they display really bad attitudes. Me and a few other people i know were charged twice for the ticket. We calmly went to the manager just to have him deny everything basically. I will never step back in that place, and i guarantee about 60 people i know will never be back there either. i hope they get shut down. This place has never checked an ID since i started going there. So its basically a teenage spot waiting to get busted. NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE. you will just leaved stressed. About two blocks away is an AMAZING hookah/Lebanese restaurant. Its called MARYS. I have been going there for 3 years. They actually treat there frequent customers with respect. I have no problems with them. Pros: nothing Cons: waiters, manager, prices, forced tip, attitudes, theft more

This place should be closed down! 7/23/2009

We went there with a couple of my friends to experience one of these arab-like nights. First one of the staffs directed us to a patio space with a bunch of dirty and crappy chairs and tables which were supposed to be for the people who want to smoke hookas. Then we deciced to go inside and order some food. I can't talk more about how lazy, rude and incompetent the waiters were. Me and 2 of my friends had to go there every 20 minutes and ask them what happened to our food. The service was terrible. I had to find a table with a glass of water and take it myself since the waiter wasn't even instructed about the very basic things of satisfying the customers' needs. About their food, well, I would just say their food recommendation (chicken shawarma) wasn't even close to being average. The funny thing was that all of us were charged automatically on the tips, and we couldn't stand it when we received the last bill which was even asking for another gratuity! This place is by far the worst place I've ever visited and I can't really see a positive point except its location. Pros: Location Cons: Everthing specially the thieves working on your bills more

Terrible service and rude manager 7/23/2009

Horrible service wit ha very rude manager, waiters were playing around and we should go and call them for everything. They were talking in Arabic right in front of customers, so rude and annoying! I took them to bring my food 30 minutes while it was not busy there. That was one of the worst restaurant I’ve ever seen! more

Never again 7/23/2009

Service is horrible. We had to literally go and call the waiter every single time, even on obvious items such as water. This was the first place I wanted to leave absolutely NO tip, but the thieves had automatically added a tip for themselves. Manager was not just unhelpful, but rude enough to chat with the waiter in (I'd assume) ARABIC in the middle of our conversation. more

THIEVES 6/24/2009

I did not understand why they charged me a tip of 15% for a party of 2, then gave me another receipt to add more tip on my credit card receipt after charging it on a casual lunch day. That is highway robbery. Are all Lebanese arabs thieves? Cons: AUTOMATICALLY CHARGE YOU A TIP more

Food ok, but theives work there 5/17/2009

Went there and had the chicken with rice and hummus, seemed ok. I accidentially left my camera there, but of course, the manager knew nothing about it the next day. I shouldn't leave valuables at a restaurant and that was my fault, but the fact no one turned it in is the restaurant's fault and reflects on the honestly of their staff. I also had problems with the food the next day, so needless to say won't be back for both reasons. Pros: Location Cons: Food, theives work there more

Great place for hookah 1/2/2009

Cafe Layal was great. I took 2 friends who have never tried hookah before and we enjoyed all the three flavors we ordered. The waiter kept bothering us though. He asked for my ID not once, but twice and kept asking me are you sure you're 18. He could not do the math right and realize I was over 18. He also made us uncomfortable when he would come over and also ask my friends if they were 18. They showed him their IDs but he thought they were fake. We would've had a greater time if the waiter wouldnt have kept asking us if we really were 18. We're all over 21. But other than that, the hookah was great, be sure to try the sisha flavors with mint! The smoke feels a lot better with mint! I will be back in about a week or two, but hopefully I get a different waiter who makes my experience a little bit more enjoyable. 4 stars. Pros: Great sisha & great people Cons: Waiter and the lack of music. Music began around 1am more

MUST CHECK CAFE LAYAL OUT 12/10/2008

Best Hummus and Shawarma 8/26/2008

You must try their hummus and shawarma! It is great! I like dining on the patio. The people are so friendly! Pros: food Cons: nothing more

Bad food, Bad restaurant, awful service 8/10/2008

My husband and I went to this place for the dinner. After a few minutes we asked the waiter if we could switch our table because it was very dirty. He told us why we did not tell him immediately after we sat there. My husband told him that the same table was ok. We ordered Hummus because I reaaly love it. It was unbelievably bad. I have tried hummus in several middleeastern restaurants and all of them are by far better than this. If you want a good hummus do yourself a favor and go to Kasra or Shavarma king. Pros: Nothing that i noticed Cons: bad food more

Very rude waiter and manager; avoid this place on friday nights and other nights 8/9/2008

I would have given this place zero stars if it was an option. I have not seen such rude waiters and mangers in a restaurant in my life. I went there on a friday night with my friends. we ordered food but the waiter (a middle aged guy) brought us a different plate size of the same food. Of course we didn't understand because it was our first time there. when we asked for the check we found out that we had to pay almost three times as much as we thought it would be. we told the waiter and he got mad at us. when we insisted that we were specific in choosing the item (we had shown him our order on the menu so it was his fault to bring a different thing) he went to change the check (my friened has already given him his credit card). we waited for another 15 minutes but the waiter did not come back. so we decided to just pay the check as it was and leave. my friend signed the check, took his credit card and we left. we told the waiter (he was standing at the front desk) that we left the signed check on the table. 2-3 minutes later we were still outside the restaurant talking that the waiter and the manager of the restaurant came out and very impolitely told us why we did not pay for the food. first we thought that they were joking but they were sirious. i went inside and showed him the signed check that was still on the table. The waiter did not even have the courtesy to apologize. DEFINITELY would not go back to this sh**** place again. Cons: rude waiter and manager more
