Hakubundo on Kapiolani is a little Japanese store that carries all types of Japanese materials, including comic books, oragami papers, stamps and other gift items. The prices are pretty expensive but they often hold sales, so you can pick up some cool stuff for a little cheaper. As the other reviewer mentioned, Girls Day and Boys Day is probably one of their bigger events and that's when they sale special items like fish lanterns. It is one of the few Japanese craft stores left on the island. more

If your interest is in Japanese books, magazines, comics, music and movies, this is your store. They carry a wide selection of all of the above...and even if they don't have what you want, you can special order it. Expect, however, a huge markup in price to cover shipping and all. You can save money and opt to have your order shipped via boat but then you'll have to wait a month or so longer. Regardless, expect to pay about twice the cover price of a magazine and about 25% more for CDs or DVDs. There's just no way around these prices though if you really want it--but it is cheaper than ordering from online sites. They also feature a great selection of model kits and stationery. When Girls and Boys day come around, they also feature a nice selection of the appropriate dolls to celebrate. more
