much less spa-like 2/18/2011

I really want to give one star for the manicurist attitude, but two at the end since it was still a decent job. With all the raving reviews about how they massage your arm and leg during the service, I received none. When I mentioned that to the poker face lady, she went on as she didn't hear me. I received what I could have spend $13 in my neighborhood mani/pedi place with much better massage. She did file my digits, polish them and shine them. I paid for the hot cream mani and pedi and what I got was 10ml cream with some oil (definitely not essential oil) and she rubbed on me less than 5 seconds. My nails and toes looked nice now, but the experience was much less spa-like. more

Dangerous Service!! 9/6/2010

I have been to Element many times in the past and never had a problem. However I recently went for an eyebrow wax and it was a disaster!. It stung a lot when the technician finished but I didn't consider it that unusual. I woke up the next day and realized that I had been burned and I had scabs under my eyebrows where the tech used the wax. Clearly the tech didn't know what she was doing. more

subpar massage 7/29/2009

went for hand massage. towels were way too hot. she did the same repetitive mvmt over and over. 20min cost $25. not impressed, Pros: nice clean looking Cons: massage not worth $$ more

amazingly accommodating and friendly service 12/21/2008

I went here two weeks ago with 11 other women,. It was the day before my wedding and I didn't want a bachelorette party -- just a bunch of us to get our nails done together. I ended up here because a more well known salon was being extremely difficult. SO GLAD THAT HAPPENED!!! These ladies were amazing! When I called on the phone to make an appointment, they were super friendly and had no problem with us deciding which type of manicure and pedicure to get when we arrived and we didn't even have to pay in advance (like the other salon required). When we arrived at the salon, they were very welcoming and started on us right away. We got to look at their menu of services while they began and they have a great variety -- and all at a more reasonable price! The ladies did an amazing job on everyone's nails and even helped us on with our shoes at the end -- making sure we didn't ruin our new pedicures by putting oil and a protective plastic wrap over our toes. They even gave everyone a travel size lotion and I got something extra special for being the bride! It was a great experience and I would highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone! I will be getting my nails done here from now on! Pros: extremely accommodating, friendly, professional more

Facial from Kimberly 9/10/2008

I had a great experience having a facial here. She was very good with my sensitive skin. Many times I break out, have redness, even rashes from facials, but not this time. No redness, no irritation and my face looks and feels great. Give her a call. Vicky also did my mani/pedi. Although it has only been a couple of days, it looks great. Very friendly staff and cool, modern decor. more

Bad business practices -- beware of customer service 9/8/2008

I have no idea when the spa offers good services, I just know that they are not honorable with their customers. I received a gift certificate for services at Element, and they refused to honor it after one year. I am a working mom, who just had another child and couldn't use the spa while I was pregnant anyway. I called to see if Element would honor the original $-value of the gift certificate (as I can understand that the price of the specific services would increase over time). I even said that I wanted to spend about 50% more than the original gift certificate amount and possibly become a repeat customer. They told me that the cash had "expired" and they would only give me 50% credit from the original $-amount. Element collected money, never provided any services and then refused to honor their agreement. Cash does not expire, and there's absolutely no reasonable business reason to do that, other than to steal from customers. I'm sure their treatments are great, but do not trust these people to take care of you if anything goes wrong! more

Best facial i never have. 6/25/2008

I used to get my facial at D'mai spa, but after i try element, i will not go to any where else. I have my facial from kat, she is very professional and friendly all the time, she can answer all the question i have about my skin, and she teach me how to take care my skin by myself. She also gaves me the wonderful massage on my face, neck and shoulder. This is the best facial i never have. I will be here every month for my facial now. more

I will be back!!! 6/13/2008

I just have a facial and massage in element this weekend.it is amazing. I have ken for my massage and kat for my facial, they were very professional and very nice to their costomer. This is the first time i have my facial, i have a very good exprience and i very enjoy it. What a magic hand they have!!! Thank you Element, i will be back soon. more

Not very impressive. They just work hard. Do I have to say a lot? My impression was so so more

A great massage and facial 5/23/2008

I went in for a facial and a massage. The masseuse was really nice and attentive. She focused on my problem areas and I really felt cared for. She also gave me tips on how to massage and exercise the areas myself. Next I had a facial with Kimberley who recommended a facial based on my skin type. I never felt pressured to have the most expensive one and she answered all my questions. Afterwards my skin was as soft as a baby's bottom and simply glowing. In short, I highly recommend the massages and facials at Element Beauty Lounge. Pros: staff experience, service Cons: none that I can think of more

Great service, but not worth it. 3/2/2008

My two girlfriends and I spent a wonderful afternoon at the Element, getting mani-pedis. I thought that the service was great; my manicurist, Vicky, is very attentive and friendly and did a marvelous job. Now the the negative: lady with golden teeth is completely careless - she splattered oil all over our feet instead of nails and ran away. I can't imagine how she does manicures. The cashier (guy) took my money and said I never paid, we had to rewind their security camera to prov what happened. And the same evening our nails began to chip and by next day it looked so bad that I had to remove the polish. So, Im giving 3 stars for great atmosphere, service, and massage chairs, but its not worth $35. Pros: LCD tv's, massage chairs, customer service Cons: polish chips same day, expensive more

Great waxing 1/16/2008

Did my brazilian waxing there with Ayumi - both times I went she did excellent job! For mani/pedi I would book with Viki. I really like this place, they know what they do! more

Good quality Brazilian. 10/12/2007

I got a Brazilian from Debbie. It was painful (obviously, how could it not be?) but she did her best to make everything easy and even somewhat relaxing. She was nice, professional, did an excellent job and I love the results. I am not sure whether $50 plus tip seems a bit pricey to me, but is still probably cheaper than most city prices, and in retrospect I would MUCH rather pay $10 more for a quality job than scrimp and save on someone waxing in between my legs.... Also, the receptionist was really sweet and NO ONE pushed products on me. I am looking forward - er, kind of - to my next appointment there. :) Pros: nice staff, good job more

excellent waxing 9/19/2007

I have tried straying from here for waxing, only to regret it and come crawling back. They are the fast and I get the clean results. more

Great pedicure--worth it! 5/31/2007

The pedicures here are head and shoulders above those at all the nearby (cheaper) places on 5th Avenue, where the service can be downright rude and the work shoddy. At Element, although a bit pricier, you get a very professional pedicure that lasts at least two weeks. Plus, their chairs have an amazing massage system. So after trying the rude places (eg. Polish on Sterling and 5th), I've become a convert to Element. Pros: Great massage chairs, longer-lasting pedicures Cons: A little pricier more

Oh, what magical hands they have! 2/23/2007

I would give this place an almost perfect rating... if it weren't for one nail technician currently employed there. First the good--they are the friendliest staff as far as Park Slope "spas" go. You feel welcomed as soon as you come in. It is a little cramped by the waiting area (not much going there), but you don't end up waiting long. I have had a few nail treatments done. Whether it was the Elemental mani/pedi, or just the generic, most of the technicians take their time and work, not just your nails, but the whole area. (Add on the extra 10 minute foot massage--it is sooo worth it.) And the best thing about their service is, not once have I ever felt rushed, or as if my appointment is an inconvenience to my technician. (The place on 9th and 7th, on the other hand, will never have my business again for that very reason.) My nails are done well, and I look forward to my return trip everytime. That said, avoid the technician with the gold (I think? or poorly capped) tooth. I can't remember her name, but I have had her one before. I have watched her work on other people. In short, she has ADD. She looks everywhere BUT at what's she's doing. She leaves out parts of the pedi routine, and she's not very soothing, like the others. Not a fan of hers at all. But go here. It's worth it for great service, lovely people and reasonable prices for great service. (BTW--The guy that does the massages also knows what he's doing. Soooo good.) Pros: Great service, wonderful mani/pedi, love the massage. Cons: The technician with one weird tooth. more

Terrible Bikini Wax, Decent Manicure 1/18/2007

i've been here many times, and i keep wanting to love it, but i always leave disappointed. the good: the atmosphere here is pleasant, although they overbook and don't have a decent waiting area. the maincures are fine -- not fantastic, not bad. you may have to ask them to track down the color you want, but they will find it if you request it. the bad: i've been getting bikini waxes for over ten years. i've had them done in fifteen different cities. i wrote two separate published articles about bikini waxing. and element has given me the absolute worst bikini wax experience of my life. twice. i saw elisa when she used to work there, and she was great. once she left, i saw donna. she is NOT great. she does not wear gloves. she does not powder her hands, and they stick to your skin. imagine how that feels after it's been waxed a bunch of times? and it will be a bunch of times, as she goes over the same area over and over and OVER again, often without reapplying wax, just using the "stick it with the used wax" technique you may know from removing lint from clothes with packing tape. fine for lint. terrible for hair. both times i've seen her she has actually removed portions of my skin. she takes forever. she leaves hair in weird patches. she's TERRIBLE. that said, she does an okay job with eyebrows. maybe some of the other staffers are better, but i'm not going to risk it. i don't recommend you do either. Pros: nice atmosphere, pleasant place for a manicure Cons: worst bikini wax of my life more

Painless Waxing 12/12/2006

I've tried a few different spas to get a Brazilian Wax and Element Beauty is by far the best. I found the enviroment to be very relaxing and soothing and I love the fact that I could watch music videos while I was being waxed. It was a great distraction. Pros: The prices are pretty reasonable and the staff was very friendly Cons: The stairs leading down to the waxing area were a little scary more

Pampering @ ITS BEST! 8/23/2006

after living in the area for 7 years ive definately have seen this neighborhood change alot! this is what we needed! after viewing there website "elementbeautylounge" i was definately curious to see what this place had to offer.on my first visit i realized that i wasnt rushed and was well taken care of despite the fact that it was on a busy buys saturday. upon entering your greeted by the friendly staff and your offerd a glass of water and they help you check in your bags.i had the elemental pedicure which was great for dry feet.it included a foot mask along with a paraffin dip leaving my feet very soft (i work on my feet so this was definately worth it) there prices are a bit above average but you definately get your moneys worth because you wont find service like this in the park slope area.i would definately recommed stoping buy on the weekeday i believe monday thru thursdays because they have a mani pedi special for $30.00. Pros: very chic' modern look, i loved the music they played, you can also purchase nail polish for touch-ups Cons: Its best to make appointments for the weekend as this place can be real busy! more

This is Service! 8/23/2006

I read excellent reviews on Citysearch about Element Beauty Lounge and decided to try it out for a pre-vacation mani/pedi. The manicurist who attended to me was very gentle and attentive and did a lovely job. Then, because there were no pedicure chairs available at that moment and I would have to wait, Michelle, the manager personally apologized to me and offered me a complimentary treatment. After that, I was given a great pedicure by a wonderfully patient woman (I had messed up the polish on one of my fingernails twice!). The whole experience was just great. I felt very attended to and supremely pleased with the service. I will definitely return. Pros: Staff, Atmosphere, Attention to Customer Service more
