Experience that Cures 5/10/2010

I've had looked for help with my acne for ages. I restlessly visited dermatologists, tortured myself with strange diets, overdosed with mediations, and visited all kinds of spas with no definite result. Margo, in 119 Smith Spa, is the only person who worked her "magic" to cure my skin!!! Her experience and regular treatments not just cured my acne and healed my skin but also improved the quality of my life and help to regain my self-confidence. Thank you! Pros: Cure, Help, Professionalism, and Experience more

WORST MASSAGE EVER!!! other Review must be fake 5/8/2010

yelp review is closer to the truth. had a really bad massage that was OVERPRICED at $90 per hour. my massage did NOT involve any massage on FEET, Hands, or Head!!! how unsatisfying is that. and the technique was really unnatural and bad. maybe, she was new but she'll never be good, i'm sorry to say, and they shouldn't have someone soo unexperienced with bad technique working there. i've gotten much better massages at the place one smith and dean for half the price, or another chinese joint around are far better. more

Professionalism,Tact and Elegance, 12/19/2009

This place is a gem in Brooklyn! It stands out with its pleasant and elegant ambiance along with its genuine customer service! I have never received in my life such a thorough, professionally done facial, executed with knowledge competence and commitment. They put thought behind every skin-related challenge! Moreover, the esthetician explains and accentuates on your problem areas so delicately, leading you carefully step by step during the process, so that you learn to "hear the voice" of your skin. My skin is hyper sensitive and my greatest fear in life is to have scars after blackheads cleaning, but the delicacy with which my face was treated left my skin glowing and rejuvenated. I could not resist looking at myself in the mirror. In addition, I am an eyebrow fetish and this place is the Mecca for my eyebrows. Margo is the most gifted facial perfectionist and eyebrow designer I have had so far. Amazing approach and they do love what they are doing! I guess it is all about the right attitude, devotion and loving your job! Pros: Professional Esthetician Service Cons: none more

my favorite spa in brooklyn ! 10/5/2009

Recently i received a gift certificate from my husband for a 60 min massage and facial. I have to say that was the best b.day present so far. I really enjoyed the massage, i felt sooo relaxed. Also., facial was great, i had a lot of blackheads and she cleaned them perfectly. I highly recommend this place, you will feel completly refreshed ! Pros: facial, massage, stuff, everything Cons: none more

Luxury spa service with no attitude, sales pressure or high costs 9/6/2008

I must have walked past this spa a dozen times without noticing it, but when you walk in it's very serene, clean and relaxing. The owner did my manicure and pedicure, paying attention to every little detail. The price was totally reasonable - no need to go to Manhattan for luxury service, or have your cuticles butchered by the local $10 manicure shops. Pros: Service, ambience, availability Cons: They don't always have someone available to do special things like french manicure more

BEST massage I EVER HAVE!!!! 7/28/2008

I love this place. My back feels better than it has in 10 years! I've had chronic back pain for years, and Smith Street Spa offer me a deep great massage (they have the BEST hands in New York!) my back is about 100% better! I cannot wait to go back there. Thanks for always taking good care of me. Pros: Professional, friendly Cons: none at all more

Best Back Wax Ever!!! 9/2/2007

That was the most painless backwax that I ever have had !!! After trying many places that one was definetly done by proffesional stuff . Fast and affordable Pros: Service , location more

the facial was just okay... 7/17/2007

On the recommendations here, and because I live in the neighborhood, I went for a facial with Margo. She did spend a decent amount of time on extractions, and they were definitely painful, more so than those at Providence Day Spa (also in the neighborhood). The facial itself was pretty basic, but the products were really nice--Dermalogica. After the facial, I still had the blemishes I had before, though, only smaller. A week and a half later, they have almost all disappeared, but after I exfoliated, put on a couple masks, and put zapping stuff on myself throughout the week. In contrast, after other facials, my skin looked markedly clearer and there were no blemishes remaining after 2-3 days, without me doing all that follow up stuff. It is a good value for a basic service, but if you can swing the extra $20 I would head somewhere else for a more thorough and lasting facial. Also, Margo left the room for 15-20 min while my mask was in--at other places, the facialist will stay and massage hands, feet, and scalp. more

really nice place 6/27/2007

I was a little worried that this place might not be so great, because the prices were actually within my range and a couple other reviewers stressed "no frills", but my mom was in town visiting and we wanted a spa in Brooklyn, not Manhattan. I have not really been to a spa before, so perhaps I am not the best person to review one, but I really was impressed with Smith street spa. No frills? I might have been intimidated by those anyhow. I thought the place was very nice and relaxing. Definitely clean, and it did have ambiance. The two women were both polish, and perhaps I am a bit biased, but Polish women as a rule are the most genuinely warm, welcoming, and kindhearted people alive. I got a facial and a massage, my mom got the mani-pedi. The facial and the massage were both very thorough and relaxing. I liked that the place was small and intimate (or perhaps in my book that means 'lower key and less frills' in any case, they seemed intent on the quality of the procedure and the relaxation aspect versus making me feel like a diva.,) and no products were pushed on us AT ALL. It's one of those places that I just feel good about going to and really want the business to be successfull. I have every intention of returning. And they treated my mom really nicely. Pros: really nice women, clean, unpretentious Cons: none. more

Fantastic Facial 5/20/2007

The price of facials at this spa are almost half of what one would pay anywhere in Manhattan. Margo was fantastic-- she was quite knowledgeable it's obvious she genuinely loves what she does. She extracted every pore on my face (I needed it) while keeping me nice and relaxed. She had a very sweet demeanor and didn't yap my head off (which I personally prefer) and instead focused on the job she was doing. Don't get me wrong, this spa is not fancy-- but should you really care if your eyes are closed the whole time? The place itself is modest but most importantly clean, quiet and complete with a great staff and the utmost professionalism. I highly recommend this place. Pros: professional, thorough, clean, quiet. Cons: modest interior, though it's quite irrelevent to the great job they do. more

Great Facial 4/8/2007

Yeah! I've gotten quite a few facials over the years, and I always feel like I wasted my money. Finally, a good one! This spa does not have a huge waiting area with fancy cookies and orange water. You can occasionally hear street noise. BUT, this was the best facial I've ever had. And it only cost $83 with tax. Margo only works on Mondays. She really dug out my pores. I have small black heads on my nose that are always there, even after a facial. Not this time! My face is clean as a whistle and it's not all red and splotchy or anything. She did spend a good amount of time doing extractions. And even though she was picking at me pretty good, somehow it was very relaxing, too. It was great! I'll be back. Pros: extraction galore, no hard selling at all Cons: not fancy, but who cares!!! more

Great facial, not so great eyebrown wax 11/28/2006

Was a little nervous after I had a brow wax but it was pretty average and the atmosphere is in need of some renovating. But, the facial I received was pretty good! Facialist stepped nicely through a few different treatments and I left feeling like my time and money was well-used. Pros: Good prices, great facial Cons: Plain atmosphere, average brow wax more

Expert, painless wax 9/30/2006

Its worth it to travel to this tiny spa in cobble hill. She knows what she's doing. I recommend the salt scrub, and any wax is remarkably pain free! Pros: Affordability Cons: Convenience (call ahead for appointments) more
