Editorial review from Citysearch 8/22/2013

I have visited Mr. Peter Prier's shop on two occasions during the past year. Most recently I was able to meet him in person and he has proven to be very professional and very personable. I played two instruments that he made and was very impressed with the tone quality, ease of play and instrument appearance. I purchased his 15 DVD set on violin-making and have viewed the first one. This is exactly what I needed to learn more about violin-making. I am more of a visual learner. I have read three books on the subject of violin making, but I much prefer watching someone do what I have only read about and seen pictures of. I would highly recommend him as a master luthier. more

we went to his store today. As a fellow counrty women, ( german), heritage, I actually asked the store clerk to speak to him.he was very pleasant to talk to and made me and my friebd feel like at home.we are b oth beginners and wanted know which one was for us.he took a lot of time with us,answered tons of questions.we than decided which one we wanted and now are extremly happy. Whatever the person above said, you are wrong mister.you probably have poor work ethics, and now blaming others for your job loss! I would recommend Peter Prier and Sons to any body and every body any time. more

Very much impressed 6/30/2010

I have worked with Peter and his staff on several occasions in looking for cellos! Peter, Dan (Peter's son) and Callie have spent endless hours with me adjusting my cello in order to get the best sound possible! The staff at Peter Prier and Sons is professioanl yet very personable and made me feel quiet at home. I would recommend them to anyone regardless of the instrument (violin, viola or cello) and regardless of the price! Peter is always willing to work with me according to my needs! more

Wonderful Service and Shop 7/29/2009

I live in Los Angeles but I travel to Utah to Peter's shop to have repairs done on my 18th century violin and fine French bows. Wonderful service, and the shop is also just plain fun to visit. more

Honest, and Awesome! 10/13/2008

Peter Prier & Sons Violins has been an established fine violin shop since 1965. The shop can provide you with restoration and repairs, amazing instruments, and great service. I am an employee at the shop, and I love it here. To be a part of the team it takes a person with a backbone, ambition for the work, and passion for the instruments. Nobody holds any punches, so it makes it easy to know if you are meeting the company expectations. The work that comes from Prier's shop has to be perfect, there is no room for anything less. This causes a work environment that has to flow smoothly, and we are lucky to have an excellent team of luthiers, repair technicians, office managers, and sales representatives. The most successful kind of people surround themselves with a team of people whose strengths are their own weaknesses. This will boost success and build the kind of team camaraderie that every place of employment strives for. If there wasn't room for someone's drama over their sick bird (which, by the way, is not in any way related to the position held at Peter Prier's), then the right decision was made. more

Treats employees TERRIBLY! 6/20/2006

I used to work for Peter Prier. A week ago, I would have told you it was the best store in the world to go to if you played a string instrument.\r This past Thursday, I was fired.\r Because I have a pet bird.\r \r Let me elaborate. I have a pet starling. Y'know, the wild birds that nest in your eaves. Long story short, my coworkers know about him. I love him.\r Two of my former coworkers are pregnant. One of them believes (wrongfully so, and I have documentation to prove it) that bird poo causes birth defects.\r Things have been tense since I announced that I was not going to get rid of MY PET because of THEIR PREGNANCIES.\r At the height of this conflict, I was admonished by several coworkers (not just them) that I was endangering human children over a bird.\r To summarize my proof, for them to get sick from my bird, they would have to either a) ingest his droppings, while still fresh, or b) eat him. ALL of him. Without cooking him. Me touching him, washing my hands, and coming to work, does NOT meet either of these criteria.\r \r This was some time ago, and I had believed the conflict to be over. Until Thursday.\r \r Officially, my reason for termination was that my presence was causing a disturbance in the office. He said to me ""And, frankly, **** and ******** just don't like you."" The stars being the names of the pregnant ladies.\r \r I strongly discourage anyone from shopping here. If the man would treat his employees like that, how will he treat you as a customer? more
