Love This Pizza! 2/21/2011

Great Pizza! Very close to New York Pizza! The service isn't the best and it does take a very long time for them to make a pizza. But overall, i would definitely recommend this place! more

Great Pizza 5/19/2009

I had the regular pizza, and it is definitely a NY style pizza. One thing that is good is their pizza has the NY spices. My favorite places have more prevalent spices, but this is def. different than any place down here. The sauce is just ordinary, the crust is pretty good, I like the cornmeal dusting, but it's still missing a little bready oomph taste. The cheese is pretty much ordinary too. Still looking for the place. But this ranks up there so I'm giving it five stars. And to all you gf people freaking out about the service. You should just know that it takes them an hour to make it, and be happy they do make it. Pros: Some of the best pizza you can find here. Cons: I'm still looking for a pizza that can trully equal fav. NY more

Best Pizza in Knoxville 9/23/2008

We love this pizza place. My husband and i have never had to wait but even if we did it would be worth it. This is our date place when we see a movie. Last night we went in for a birthday pizza for our daughter and they made her a heart shaped pizza. The sausage on the pizza was delish and Oh My God try the cannoli. Try Roman's- They may be busy but it is worth it. Pros: Pizza and friendly staff more

Pizza to die for :-) 12/31/2007

This is the 2nd best Pizza in Knoxville, and if I had not grown up on Pizza Palace, and therefore have a slight bias, I would probably call it the best. It is without doubt, the best toppings in town....especially the sausage...the nice thick slices instead of chunks. Real italian sausage! \r \r I have read the bad reviews for this place, about the service...let me tell you, call in before you go because you WILL WAIT for a long time if you just walk-in, sometimes you may wait 10-15 minutes even if you call in advance, however...don't believe anyone that tells you they give poor service. If they have been really late before, they have been quick to offer a discount, or free stuff. This is one of the nicest groups of people in town, the Owner is the coolest guy, and tells good stories, and again, the pizza is BEYOND great...as well as the other items. Try the Garlic Knots!!!\r \r Also...I have no idea why some of those bills were so pricey? I usually get a big order of knots, a salad, and a large 3 topping, and my bill is like 27 bucks. More than fair for the wonderful food. Pros: Fantastic food Cons: long wait sometimes, call early! more

Mixed Feelings... 11/26/2007

My husband discovered Roman's Pizza a few months after I found out I had Celiac Disease. I was very happy to know there was a pizza place that catered to celiacs! However, our first experience with the gluten free pizza was not the best (just didn't taste good). But I wanted to give it another shot. \r My family was in town for the holidays & we decided to get pizza & watch the UT-UK game (my dad and my grandfather have celiac disease, too) so I told them about Roman's. \r We got one GF pizza for the 3 celiacs, a large, 2 topping--it was nearly $30!! For one pizza!! We went in the day before to place the order (we've been told to order early) and STRESSED that this needed to be ready by 11:30am the next day. I showed up to pick up my pizza the next morning (arrived at 11am when they opened), and the guy who makes the pizzas wasn't even there yet! He didn't show up until after 11:30 and didn't seem in any hurry to make our pizza. After the pizza was made, he seemed more focused on taking pictures of his pizza and bragging about his varieties. Don't get me wrong, the pizza was great and I was thrilled to hear all they offered. But the customer service was truly lacking, the prices were outrageous, and the wait time was ridiculous! \r Even though I'm a celiac, I don't know if I'll go back. And I don't know if I'd recommend it either... Pros: offers things most GF people can't find elsewhere Cons: price, wait time, customer service more

Good pizza. Really bad service. Avoid this one. 10/9/2007

Okay, I have to admit, the pizza is good. But the customer no-service and inconsiderate nature of the staff makes this place one to avoid. \r I had been going to Roman?s for six months and always enjoyed it, although every visit was met with somewhat dismissive service, like it was a hassle to take my order and get my pizza to me. The last time I was at Roman?s, I was charged $48 for a large three-topping pizza and two salads! I kept asking the 16 year-old girl (who also was shocked by the price) to recalculate the order. First, she thought I had ordered two pizzas, Next, she thought I had ordered a (more expensive) gluten-free pizza. After numerous explanations of what I actually DID order, and her totaling up the bill, I gave up. Only one other employee came over (for an entire minute-and-a-half) to try to straighten up the mistake, before shrugging and returning to some other task.\r Hey, the pizza is good, but not that good. So they got my $50. I hope it was worth losing a customer forever. \r Pros: Good pizza. Cons: Everything else. more

Good pizza, really poor service. 9/17/2007

With a son with Celiac disease, I thought we'd (self, wife, two boys, college-age daughter) try eating here before a movie (next door). Arrived 1.5 hours early. It took 20 minutes to get to where you place an order. The guy waiting on us know NOTHING about their gluten free stuff; we had to drag information from him. ""I heard you have a gluten-free pizza."" ""Yea"" ""Can you tell me about it"" ""Yea, we've got it"" ""Do you have different sizes"" ""No"" ""What size do you have"" ""Large"" ...and so on. We ordered and sat down. After waiting another 30 minutes, my wife checked to see when our order might be ready. They hadn't started making it yet! We cancelled the order for the regular pizza, hoping the GF pizza (which they admitted was pre-prepared and was in the back) might get done before we had to leave. It was ready 2 minutes before the movie was to start. We put it in the car to take home, and let our son eat popcorn at the movie instead. We put the pie in the fridge, and gave him a slice the next day, which he said was really good. That's the only reason I gave the place 2 stars instead of 1. I used to run a pizza store (admittedly a chain), so I know it's not rocket science. One of my pet peaves is poor service anywhere and, for my money, no pizza is worth over a one-hour wait. In the future, we might call in at an off-hour to pick up another GF pizza for my son, but we definitely won't be coming as a family to eat here again. Pros: Good pizza, but not the best. Cons: Poor service, long wait. more

amazing food, amazing people! 8/20/2007

I started eating at Romans a couple years ago and fell in love with the pizza. I had to stop going there to eat because I found out I had Celiac Disease. One day Dave (the owner) called to ask why I hadn't been in to see him and I said, "" I can't eat pizza anymore"" ! After explaining to him what I had, why i couldn't eat pizza, how many people Celiac affects .. he said come talk to me, everyone should be able to have a pizza.\r Well I went with a friend of mine and her children (one who has celiac) and he almost had tears in his eyes to think a child couldn't have pizza. This was in December .. the weekend of my birthday (march 31st) he served the first gluten free pizza .. it was amazing then and is even better now! \r \r He has added several other GF items to his menu .. he even made me a cake and I must say it was THE BEST THING I've ever eaten!! \r \r Romans Pizza has the best pizza in town ... and now they are the ONLY place any where near Knoxville that will make up a Gluten Free pizza .. calzone .. stromboli ... even chocolate cake!!! \r \r Even people who eat his regular pizza (which is amazing) have come in requesting the GF pizza instead!! It's that good!!\r \r If you want a GF pizza, call in advance to make sure DAVE is there (he is the only one that makes them). Also it takes him about an hour or so depending on how busy they are. So I advise that you order early.\r more

Gluten-Free Pizza! 6/21/2007

Wife has Celiac Disease (which means she can't eat foods containing gluten). We saw Roman's Pizza on TV and gave it a shot. The pizza was huge and very tasty. To my fellow gluten-free people do not bother trying to suffer through a store-bought GF Flour, come here. \r \r Suggestions: Ask them why they are doing this for a good story.\r \r Now there are 4 options for Celicac's; Outback, PF Changs, Bonefish Grill and Roman's Pizza.\r \r more

Real New York Pizza - For NY Transplants 1/21/2006

This is the real deal. 100% homemade pizza pie and other tomato sauce - based goodies, plus real NY cheese cakes. Great food, cary-out atmosphere with cafe-type seating. Lots of strange accents, but everyone is friendly. Pros: hand tossed - rolled, great sauce, easy in and out Cons: very casual, can be busy more

Home Cookin' 12/22/2004

Simply put. Roman's is the best pizza parlor in the East Tennessee region. If you are looking for ""real"" New York style pizza, search no further. Value is a ""10"" . The food is an ""11"". David and his staff make any misplaced New Yorker feel right at home. more

Roman's ROCKS! 3/29/2003

This is the best thin crust New York style pizza EVER. The place is charming- like a little slice of NYC right here in KnoxVegas. The two gruff brothers bantering while they make your pie, the spartan interior- it all adds up to the perfect experience. Why go to one of those lame chains when Roman's is close by? There is NONE BETTER! Pros: pizza, pizza, pizza more
