Expect your ""30 minute wait"" for Sunday Brunch to be more like 45-60 minutes. On top of that, expect to wait another 35 minutes after you've placed your order (with no substitut...

Never Again!! 8/22/2011

I ate their on a trip to NYC. I, later, read an article on who the head chef was. Curtis Brown use to be a singer of one of the craziest rock bands out (not a good crazy). I saw him once play with his self and then wipe a guys head in the front row, then poured a beer on his head! He followed this up by trying to start a fight with everyone in the front row. He also cooked at this joint in Los Angeles and smoked weed in the back and was very rude to customers. I am disgusted that I ate food that his hands touched! And, by the way, it was way over priced for the type of food it is. more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD-EARNED MONEY!! 6/9/2011

How can a restaurant name Bubby's (Jewish term for grandmother) have it's menu literally packed with bacon and pork products?? Poor Bubby is spinning in her grave. Even the over-rated freeking biscuits have bacon fat in them, for christ's sake! It looks as if they got a chef or management that thought, wow, lets make the menu southern comfort food... and then got a cook who is from Jersey to cook it. My friend this stuff is simply awful! My husband had the meatloaf with collard greens. He said the food was so greasy he could not eat it. I ordered fried chicken, green beans and mac/cheese (only veggies that did not contain bacon or pork fat.). If you guys wanna go southern, then at least learn to make the dishes. This was AWFUL! No one is the south puts bacon or pork fat in their dishes any more; it just ain't healthy to do anymore. The chicken was favourless and a greasy mess. No herbs, no spice... just greasy crunch... and EXTREMELY salty. They brag about brining (really called Koshering) the chicken; guess they don't do a second soaking in water, as you should before preparing to remove excess salt. The atmosphere is so loud we could not have a conversation without shouting across the table. The beer was warm, so was the water they brought on a 95 degree day. When I asked for ice, they offered to get me a iced lemonade at 5 bucks (!!) a glass. I know they have a captive audience down there in Tribeca. But I gotta tell you this place sucks so badly, I'd walk blocks in the 95 degree heat (or freezing cold) to find something else. SMART restaurateurs, heed this and put up a good family restaurant in this area. You'll make a mint and Bubby's will be gone in a flash. No competition is their only edge... it sure isn't the food. more

A New York Institution 11/5/2009

I have been brunching a Bubby's since it opened in 90'. The food is great. Both the atmosphere and the eats are consistent, cozy, comfortable. Brunch has become a bit of a scene and it can get a little crazy sometimes. There is always a line-up and tons of tourists and New York transplants. If you can stand being trampled at the bar by a loud family of six from Kansas - or getting bumped for Natalie Portman and friend - after you waited an hour for a table, then you're in for a treat. Once you are (finally) seated, you will be treated to attentive service and some of the best brunch selections in the city. Pros: ::duh:: The Food - hello? Cons: The crowds ::yuck:: more

It's Over For Me--No More Chances 5/4/2009

Over the years, I have developed a typical abused spouse syndrome towards this wretched brunch place. Every time I go there and get mistreated, I leave angry, swearing never to go back. Two weeks later, I hopelessly trudge back there for another take, and again, I storm out fuming and swearing it was the last time. Well, this time I have really, really had it. No more for me. I do not even know where to begin. The worst service you can imagine magnified by ten. Last time I went there on a Saturday morning, when the place was nearly empty. My husband and I were placed in the farthest corner of the restaurant, practically INSIDE the little side room for the dirty dishes, squeezed between a constantly swinging door and a wall. 35 weeks pregnant and rather huge, I asked the host if we could have a different, more comfortable table. His response? Well you know, we try to distribute the tables more evenly. The cups are habitually dirty. Getting bottled water is an impossible task. If you lose your knife, you better learn to cut with your teeth, because you ain't getting a new one. The home-fried potatoes are so overfried and burned, I think they recycle the ones from three weeks ago. My last dish there had two thick hairs on the bottom. The waitress didn't even offer to have it replaced. The bathrooms are a health violation. Yes, they occasionally have spectacular reuben sandwiches and good bacon, but really, really, I have HAD it. Pros: Good bacon Cons: Everything else more

Great Brunch Spot!! 3/8/2009

I had been wanting to go to Bubby's for brunch for some time and am so glad I finally made it! The place was packed but our group of 6 was seated within 15 minutes. The food was delicious and the portions were huge! The mimosa had fresh squeezed orange juice and the bloody mary was spicy and seasoned perfectly. The sour cream pancakes were out of this world and I would highly recommend the cheese grits as a side. Will definitely be back again soon! Pros: great food and great atmosphere Cons: none! great spot! more

YUM YUM YUM 9/4/2008

I had the breakfast burrito with home fries. I almost died it was so good. I couldn't help myself but to clean my plate. The burrito comes with guac! In the morning! YUMMY! Pros: THE FOOD Cons: I will get very fat if i keep going back more

Big Breakfast! 6/4/2008

We went to Bubby's for the first time, read lots of great reviews on it and always wanted to try it. The food was good, not great, but pretty good. The place was packed, we sat inside because the outside tables were taken and it was hot and humid inside, they need better ventilation. As a typical NY spot, they also pack you in there like sardines, you can't back your chair up w/o hitting the person at the table behind you! Pros: Overpriced for eggs/pancakes Cons: Seated promptly more

Changed for the worst. 3/3/2008

The menu has changed - it's now smaller (what happened to the chicken fried chicken!?) - but one thing hasn't changed: POOR SERVICE. Waitresses are clueless, the food takes forever to come out and the sides are always wrong. In addition, they are almost always out of atleast a couple dishes - i'm not sure who is in charge of inventory but I have never been to a restaurant that is out of food on a saturday night at 7:30. Pros: Food (when they haven't run out) Cons: Service, service, service more

Bad Service 2/20/2008

I ordered a cake for birthday party across the street at Mr Chow's. they promised to delivery to me but they forgot and I almost didn't have a cake for my husbands birthday. I didn't any apologies from them. more

Great brunch spot...... 1/17/2008

Great casual brunch spot..... especially on a nice day when you can sit outside. The menu is full of yummy comfort food and the bloody mary's are GREAT. Can be a bit crowded on the weekends...... more

Great Matzah ball soup & Mac N Cheese, Very Crowded though. 11/9/2007

Had a work lunch here on Thursday. Very cramped and close quarters, quite loud, and rushed service. Pros: Great mac n cheese and matzah ball soup. Cons: Bad bread used for sandwiches. more

Decent place, subpar service and overpriced. 10/16/2007

We were sat promptly for Sunday's brunch, but the problems began where most of the brunch specials were out when we got there. I ordered the special omelette but the waiter came back moments later and told me that they ran out of that as well. I had no choice but to change it to ""Bubby's Breakfast"". But guess what? The busboy brought out the special omelette instead of the Breakfast! The waiter was clueless. Pros: Country decor, coffee, presidents placemats. Cons: Service, value. more

Great meals for weekend brunch or weekday lunch 9/12/2007

Cheese Grits every day is heaven. It's the best comfort food in the world and Bubby's makes a good one. For lunch, the Garlic burger with brie cheese is a good bet. Just don't talk to anyone for a few hours because your breath will reek. The wait staff are very nice and the dining area is airy. You can eat al fresco if you want but it is right next to a Holland tunnel exit. The portions are sizeable and definitely invite sharing. Not everything on the menu is tasty but they do make some dishes well. I have a few favorites and am a frequent customer there. Pros: Garlic Burger with Brie, Cheese Grits, No Fuss - No Muss easy going attitude Cons: Could do without the Holland Tunnel exit. Need reservations for weekend brunch...Who can plan to do anything on time during the weekend? more

Horrible Service, Average Food, Good Prices if you are willing to wait 4/28/2007

We had horrible service and had to prompt the waitress for everything from drinks, to bread to our check. The tables around us were complaining about the same thing. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. more

Overall Good meal 4/7/2007

We are in New York for a holiday and decided to try buby's as it was just roound the corner. We had brunch, I ordered a bubby's breakfast meal. The food arived within 15 minutes. The bacon was nice but a bit too fatty. The eggs and homefries were amazing! We also tried the pancakes, they were delicious at hot. The actual place was friendly but a little cramped. The bathrooms were not very nice and not accessible that easily. Overall it was a good meal but I wouldn't want to go there again as it would have been boring. Pros: Okay environment, nto too expensive and family friendly. Cons: Need more variety. more

Cheese grits to die for... 3/9/2007

I love the brunch here - especially the biscuits and cheese grits - but you have to get there before 11am, or the wait is heinously long. Although I'm a devotee of the food, I have to agree with those who complain about the service, both in-restaurant and delivery. It's pretty shabby, with a few exceptions for some great servers that shine among those that are really sub-par. Cons: Long waits to be seated at brunch and to receive your food, if you order delivery more

New Yorkers know to avoid this place 2/18/2007

Happy farmhouse decor, complete with groups of out-of-towner girls who think everything is one big S&theCity episode. Overpriced, food comparable to your local corner diner, and the guaranteed long wait at the door adds insult to injury. Thought I would come back after a few months to give it another try, but nothing's changed and this is the last time I'll eat here. ps: the pie is still good though more
