Will Never Go Back 3/5/2012

I'm not sure what happened the day I went to Brooklyns, but it did not live up to its previous reviews about the food being good. My family & I went for Sunday brunch yesterday. We arrived just after noon, when Brooklyns actually opens, not at 11 a.m. as their website states. We were seated by the owner. She asked if we would like Bloody Marys or Mimosas. We ordered Bloody Marys and then did not see any servers for a very long time. We were never given a menu or even told we could order off a menu. After a while, we saw other customers going and getting food from some pans on a table off to the side of the bar. This consisted of what looked like leftover chicken wings and leftover fried potatoes, some kind of gravy, what looked like canned chili, lukewarm oatmeal and grits, some kind of warmed over sausage patty, store bought pastries and a little bit of fresh fruit (the pineapple looked several days old). When we went back to our table, a server finally appeared and said that they were out of Blood Marys and offered us Mimosas with the champagne on the house. At this point we had tried the food which was not very warm and not very good. We ended up leaving the food on the plates and going some where else for brunch. All I can say is I was very disappointed, especially given the amount of reviews saying the food was good. I'm not sure what was going on yesterday, but I will never go back as the experience was not a good one at all. Also, the ladies' restroom was not clean and running very low on toilet paper and paper towels. Out of all the brunches I've been to, I can't even think of anything positive to say about this one. I'm not sure if this is normal for Brooklyn's Sunday brunch or if we just came on a really off day. more

bad food great music 8/11/2011

I had not been to brooklyn jazz in a while now. So I took my husband on Wednesday night. The service was great, the music was wonderful. Then came the worse food that i have every eaten. My husband steak was black burn with old french fried. My catfish was so hard that i could not eat it. The waitress was great and took it back. She brought out some more food and it was good. To have such a great place, please manager check your food in the kitchen. Find some people that love to cook and not just a job. This will mess up your restaurant, because i am a food critic. more

Simple AWFUL Service!!!!!! 1/24/2009

I called and reserved dinner for 20 plus people for my birthday celebration. The reservation was from 8 to 10. When I arrived at the restaurant only a few of my guest had arrived. The table they seated me and my guest at was a table for 10 people. They stated that since all of my party was not there at 8:00PM that they would only provide us with one table. Mind you I sent my sister and 3 friends ahead so that someone would be there on time to confirm our reservation at 8. They were seated and were told the same thing about the seating. I got there about 8:20pm and I was horrified. To see that I had invited all of these people out for dinner and to listen to a band and it wasn?t happening. The wait staff was very rude. When my guest placed their dinner orders, they were reminded by the wait staff, about having to release their seats at 10pm. It was embarrassing! They actually came over to the table at 9:50 and said the next party is here. Pros: The downtown, the urban feel is cool! Cons: The service staff and the parking more

Horrible Customer Service 1/17/2009

My girlfriends and I went to Brooklyn on a Saturday night. We did not make reservations, because their website states that they do not take reservations for small parties. When one of my friends got there, the host sat her at a table and told her we would have to move at 10, because it was reserved at that time. When we got there, we told the host that we wanted to stay past 10 and asked if there was another table where we could sit and stay later. He told us that he did have a table, so we moved there. At a few minutes before 10, one of the people in our party asked for her check. The waitress brought all of our checks. When we asked the her if we needed to pay and start a new tab, she told us that the host had told her to bring all of our checks because our table was reserved at 10. He told us that there was another seating at 10. However, no one else around us was asked to leave their talbes. We asked to have him come over, and he told us we had to get up. We asked to speak with the owner. We told him our story, and he, too, told us we had to get up. We sat there and finished our drinks. The host came by and told us that the people who had reserved the table were there, and we needed to get up. We got up and stood against the wall for another 30 minutes before anyone came to sit at the table. Every other table in the restaurant had a reserved sign, except the one we were sitting at. My friends and I each spent $40-50 and were going to continue to drink, spending even more than that. The host was rude, and the owner was even more rude. As we left, I said to the host, ""Thank you for ruining the only girls' night out we have had in 2 years."" To which he replied, ""You're welcome."" more

Best All Around 6/21/2008

On June 17, 2008 me and my husband celebrated our 3rd Anniversary. We were debating on where we should go and celebrate. I was speaking with my Aunt and she told me that in March of 2008 she had the pleasure of attending Brooklyn Jazz Cafe for a Birthday Celebration for her friend and she was very impressed. We decided on Brooklyn Jazz Cafe and I have to say that we were very impressed from the time we walked in. The atmosphere was wonderful. The food spectacular and the band that was playing that night(cannot think of the name) was amazing. The drinks were very tasty and the waitress that served us was a sweetheart. I have recommended Brooklyn's to several of my family and friends and will most definitely be going back.. Pros: Music,Food,Service,Atmosphere more

Amazing Date 2/10/2008

I would definitely recommend this place to people looking for a good time. The band that was playing was absolutely wonderful along with the music played in between sets. My date and I enjoyed great drinks provided by helpful and enthusiastic bartenders, try the Pink Panther Martini) that weren't watered down like at most places. The people were friendly and curteous and there was no drama, definitely a grown up crowd. They served a full menu along with desserts and very delicious food might I add. Our dinner came out quickly and well presented. It was a very intimate and cozy enviornment which made for great conversation. I have absolutely fallen in love with this place, can't wait to go back! Pros: Easy to find, friendly enviornment, good food, great music Cons: None! more

Great Experience 12/10/2007

I had the most enjoyable experience while visiting Brookllyn's in Oct. 2007. I live in CA and I was in town for the weekend. I was told this was the place for the GROWN & INFORMED. The food and music were great. My suggestion is to arrive early because the place fills up quick. We arrived at about 8:30pm on a Saturday and were escorted to our seats by who I believe was the owner. The food was delicious and the music provided by Paul Rogers & The Natural Change Band was even better. The wait staff was very attentive and I will definitely make Brooklyn's a regular place to visit while in Dallas. All in all, you have check them out, you will not be disappointed. Pros: Service, Value & Valet Parking more
