AWESOME!!!!! 3/21/2011

We have been seeing Dr. Hiser for 4 years now and wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. The staff is exceptional along with the care. My GSD goes there for both yearly maintenace as well for a recently acquired chronic condition. more

Wonderful! 2/22/2011

I have been bringing my animals here for almost 10 years. Dr. Rose & Dr. Hiser are wonderful. They are true experts and so caring. My dog underwent surgery for cancer and is doing great. Prices are in line with other area vets. Staff at Broad Street is also incredible. I'd highly recommend them. more

Dr. Neil Rose is the BOMB! , as is All the STAFF! 7/27/2010

Blondy Blondell my beautiful, gorgeous, Blond Chow Chow , has been seeing Dr. Rose for 5 Pros: Compassion for animals and their owners, superior pet care Cons: There are NONE! more

WAY TOO EXPENSIVE 1/7/2010

This vet will no longer get my business. The first incident that made me question their ethics was regarding a concern I had about my dog's excessive drooling. We adopted our dog from the SPCA and brought him in for the initial check-up. During this visit I mentioned that he was drooling excessively during car rides and was concerned about him drooling non-stop on an upcoming 8-hour road trip we were making with our dog. The vet said it was likely due to anxiety and had a ""free"" sample of a certain anti-anxiety med I could try to help ease the anxiety of the car ride. He said if it worked he would prescribe for future car rides. When I went to check-out I had a $40 charge on my bill for the medication and when I mentioned to the check-out attendant that this was a mistake because I was promised a free sample she said, ""no worries, let me check with the doctor and I'll be right back."" When she returned she stated that the doctor realized he had no free samples so he just gave me the whole pack and was going to charge me for it. I refused to take the meds and gave my dog dramamine instead, which worked by the way. I couldn't believe that the vet didn't come out and ask me if I still wanted the medication when he realized he didn't have free samples since there was now a $40 charge. It was like he was sneaking it on my bill. This should have been my first clue to never come back but I gave them another chance and later brought my dog back for an illness he had. They ran some test to try to determine the cause and after running several tests they were never able to ascertain what was causing the issue. I have pet insurance and so I filed a claim with VPI and they only paid a portion of the claim. When I called VPI to inquire about the reimbursement they stated that they didn't cover one of the tests and then mentioned, as a side note, that the price I was charged for the test was way more expensive than what most vets should charge. This of course made me curious so I called around to 4 different local vets, all within a few miles of each other, and asked what they charged for the same tests. Sure enough the charge was 1/4 of the cost of what I was charged at Broad Street Vet. After this incident I will never go back nor will I recommend that anyone go to this vet. I feel about as vulnerable walking into a vet clinic these days as I do when I take my car into a mechanic. Pet owner's/lovers will do anything for their pets so they are at the mercy of the vet to charge them a fair price and not take advantage of them. I know that people often take the time to write reviews when they are upset with a service or retailer, etc., but I vow to take the time to write a good review if and when I find a vet who is more ethical and doesn't rip me off everytime I walk through the door! Pros: Friendly Cons: overcharge for standard procedures & unethical more

love it! 11/15/2009

tries to save me money and is genuinely concerned for my dog! Pros: DR HISER IS THE BEST!!! more

The best vet out there 6/16/2009

my dogs have seen dr. hiser for many, many years, and he has shown himself to be a knowledgable, caring, and compassionate vet time and time again. i love the fact that he doesn't take the expensive route first- he's much more ""let's try this first"" before suggesting needless or expensive and extensive testing. to me, this shows just as much care for the owner as for the pet. additionally, he spends a great deal of time with you making sure that you understand what is going on and what needs to be done. later in the day he is sometimes running quite a bit behind, but i never mind because i know he's giving everyone such great attention. and the staff? love them. they all know my babies by name, and really enjoy seeing them. this office is an absolute pleasure to deal with. please keep doing what you do so well- don't worry so much about the bottom line, because the great patient care and great word of mouth will take care of that! IGNORE the cons below this--- they were inadvertently added about ANOTHER richmond vet office. they don't belong on this review but i can't figure out how to remove them:( Pros: dr rose is like a family friend Cons: unbelievably expensive/ insane policies more

EXPENSIVE 5/9/2009

My dog's last yearly checkup cost me $500 including everything Dr Rose said my dog ""needed"" .....Also they would not authorize Petmeds for his Rx for heartgard ....saying he needed to come in for a heartworm test even though they had just done one..... I also had a cat who was very obviously sick with lymphatic cancer(as per the vet I had come to my house to see her - after looking at Braoad St's labwork) Dr Rose instead of telling me she had cancer, gave haer a vitamin b shot and prescribed very expensive laser treatments for ARTHRITIS. She was NOT sick and WASTING AWAY because of ARTHRITIS. Therefore-my second opinion. I will not go there again. They lost a loyal customer in me today. I hear the vet in Church Hill is great and will not over charge you or charge you for unecessary treatments. Don't go to Broad ST Vet . Unless you have LOTS of money to throw away. Pros: Dr Rose is very nice and knowledgeable Cons: They will charge you your firstborn in payment more

WONDERFUL PEOPLE 3/23/2008

Eight years ago when I adopted a three-year-old Bouvier des Flanders, I made appointments with several veterinary hospitals to tour their facilities This was the only location where Uri trotted through the 'back' rooms happily to meet everyone as they bent over to love on her. She chose Broad Street Veterinary Hospital and I'm so glad she did! Although she's made many visits for some serious health issues and unpleasant treatments, Uri still loves to visit Dr. Rose and Dr. Hiser, as well as the rest of the wonderful staff. She literally drags me INTO the door and is always greeted with smiles and loving pets and rubs. Rather than putting her on a cold table, the docs get on the floor with her and with tender loving hands, they perform whatever exam is needed. When she faced health concerns, the doc gave me his home telephone number in case I needed him and the docs often have called me at home to check on her. Uri is treated as a valued family member, not a dog! Pros: wonderful loving staff more

Excellent Vet 2/2/2008

Dr. Rose has been around forever and has a wonderful reputation. He is very knowledgeable and skilled. They cost a bit more but your animal will get 1st rate care. Pros: excellent skills, bedside manner, clean, good hours Cons: a little costly more
