Brevard Humane Society

After almost 18 years my large golden retriever had a stroke in the middle of the night that incapacitated him. Other vets couldn't fit him in. The Human Society staff was extremely kind, understanding and fit him in that morning. They have a wonderful little chapel with a stain glass window. They covered a table with blankets (not the cold stainless steel of a vet's office.) Colored light streamed through the window onto Sherman as they explained what would happen and encouraged us to take all the time we needed. The procedure was quick. They were there to answer questions, comfort us and left us for a time to mourn, checking in now and again to ensure we were ok. The whole experience, although very sad, was a wonderful way to peacefully say goodbye to our best friend. Much better than the hurried vet's office with cold lighting, stainless steel and another patient lined up to immediately take the room. Five stars and many thanks for the love they showed in this difficult time. The price was very reasonable as well. more

Called for appt to get puppy spayed. Girl treated me like I was a terrible person. Was told they don't .do blood tests and they insinuate that you are risking you puppy's. life. Was told I needed to provide vaccination records and pay deposit before you can schedule. Several days later, they wouldn't refund deposit when I cancelled. Even though appt. Was a month and a half away. They dont tell you it is not refundable. Wouldnt have scheduled at all if the told me that. Had brought my older dog in for vaccines. Exam room DIRTY. Previous dog's fur and dander left on exam table. Don't wipe down. Between apptmts. Will not go back and will make donations to shelter who treat people better. more

Good: Nothing. Bad: Lady at front was terrible...she treats people like criminals...I paid for a cat (no such thing as adopting since you have to pay) What I got was a Sick cat. Bleeding in stool since day one..I set up appointment and brought the cat back they said oh it's just stress the cat will be fine...4 days later cat still bleeding..brought back and said I would like my money back...Do you believe they treated me so bad because I said I wanted a refund?? Are they nuts? ...Also the place really stinks not just the staff. Improvements: Get rid of that Manager in front. Other: Come to find out this cat had some bacterial infection.Feel sorry for the pets there.. more

Love their new Spay/Neuter clinic - should go a long way to preventing unwanted pets. Staff all seemed to be knowledgeable and quite busy, too. Animal facilities were clean, not smelly, and clearly marked with pet's information. Highly rated! more

This was the most well-run, organized and clean shelter I have ever been to. They were very helpful and knowledgable about animals and have so many wonderful programs available to help the animals get adopted. The volunteers were walking dogs and playing with the cats while staff were assisting customers with adoptions. The place was busy but eveyone was courteous and friendly. They have the most beautiful Chapel for private "goodbyes" when a pet passes and they don't charge for it's use. The new low-cost Spay/Neuter and wellness clinic is state of the art and very affordable. I have adopted from them several times over the last few years and recommend them to everyone! more

You know this place is the exact reason why I don't adopt from a shelter. Very rude and treated like I'm some kind of criminal. I've rescued plenty of kittens and they've survived from a day old to 2 months. As well as breed and rescue dogs and yet they treat me like I'm some stupid woman they don't have time for. Wait, isn't a shelter about finding homes for animals. So why is it every time I walk in there I feel like I'm walking into prison. Maybe if they were a little bit nicer they get more people coming in. I know I won't go back. more

I went to attend a volunteer orientation for the society and was 15 mins late due to a auto accident. The woman that "greeted" me was rude, disrepectful, very unprofessional, and I believed to be racist. I intend to file a complaint against this organization w/several agencies that handle discrimination and public affairs complaints, as well as complain to my friends in the media.
