My wife and I ate here on a Sunday afternoon about 4 pm. It was not busy so we did not have to wait to be seated. There were lots to chose from on the menu. The New England...

The chowder wasn't bad. Cole slaw was decent. The fried seafood platter that I had was something I could easily prepare for myself at home. Someone told me that the sushi is go...

Excellent Seafood 2/5/2007

Let me start by saying that the restaurant was very clean, we were seated promptly and our server was excellent. The only reason I did not give a 9 or 10 is that I found a hair in my sushi. I can not comment on how the sushi was although I had almost finished it before I found the hair. Being that we were in a hurry, I did not tell the server about it. I'm sure he would have taken care of that portion of the meal though. My girl friend had the Fish and Chips, and it was excellent. Overall it was a good experience. We will go back, though I will not be getting the sushi. I think the guy needs a hair net. Pros: Excellent Food, Great Service.. Cons: Parking, Hair in my food more

Good Food. Good Venue 1/22/2007

loved the fish and chips and sushi. Would recommend this place to anyone. The decor is nice if you like sports teams from the Atlantic North East. more

Praise the Lord, Pass the Sushi 11/5/2006

Was consistently unimpressed with the offerings at B & F - though I must admit that their fries have improved drastically - until the addition of the Wave Sushi Bar. Finally, sushi in Five Points. Why, Lord, has this taken so long. Rumor has it that once the clientele is established that it will move into more spacious, less fried-smelling digs. Amen. Pros: Sushi Cons: Fried food more

Very average food, limited menu, poor atmosphere -- 11/4/2006

If I had to review them in one word, i'd say: BLAH. Food was average. I could get the same boring french fries (why do they come in a paper sack that only makes them soggy?!) and average fried shrimp at Applebees. My date's fish was also blah and very average. Absolutely nothing special about either of our meals. It took the waitress 15 minutes to return to check on us, and by then the blah soggy vegetables that really needed salt (there was none on any of the tables) were cold and salt couldn't help them. Cons: blah food, limited menu, bad atmosphere more

Sensational Sushi 9/25/2006

I have been eating at Batter'd since they opened their doors. The service and atmosphere has always been great, and the menu continues to be refined and fine-tuned. The latest addition, a sushi bar, is fantastic. I should say that I was never a huge fan of sushi, but ever since I had the caterpillar roll (the special that night) and the fire crunch, I can not get enough. The fries are the best in town, and their kid's menu is great. I love the fact that there is no smoking so I can feel good about bringing my daughter there even for dinner. Batter'd fits in perfectly in East Nashville and is a great addition to the selection of bars and restaurants in that area. I was in one night and the owner's father (who was a gourmet chef and was visiting from the Boston area) was personally cooking the special (lump crab stuffed shrimp). You can't get more ""cool-East-Nashville"" than that! Pros: Sushi, Atmosphere, Service Cons: Parking more

Good but portion too small 8/23/2006

We got the grouper tenders, which I'd heard were good, and they were very good, but with only 5 (?) small tenders, I felt like I'd just eaten an appetizer and was ready for the main course. more

Improving, but not quite there 7/25/2006

I have ordered carry-out twice from this place. The clam chowder was fabulous both times. Unfortunately I was disappointed in the fish both times. The fries have improved significantly. Whatever you do, don't go for the crab cakes. (I echo the critique of lkr322). Pros: Location, Concept, Clam Chowder Cons: Several food items need work more

What a shame!! 6/15/2006

I live in East Nashville and LOVE to support neighborhood businesses including the restaurants. I wanted very much to enjoy this place. A friend and I stopped in for dinner the other night, hoping for an enjoyable meal. Were we ever disappointed with the food! The service was great, as was the decor. The wine list was short, but not without some enjoyable choices. We had several items including oysters, crab cakes, and a ""special"" salmon salad. The oysters were fine, not great. The crab cakes were a HUGE disappointment, rubbery and overcooked with little crab in them. What a waste of crab. The largest disappointment was the bbq-lime salmon salad. The bbq sauce was very thick and sweet, much too much for the overcooked salmon to take. What a horrible miss in balancing flavors and textures. Maybe I will return to try something ""battered and fried,"" but it is unlikely. I think I might find better at Captain D's in those rare times I crave something battered and fried. Some bottled spring water would have been nice also for diners who do not drink tap water. Pros: The barber shop and laundry mat are gone. Cons: The food. more

Surprisingly average fried food 6/13/2006

Let me preface this by stating that I really wanted to like this place. I love East Nashville, spend most of my time there, and enjoy seafood. I was quite impressed with the menu, service was good, and the place has a nice ambiance. However, the important part of any restaurant is the food. My group ordered a large selection of appetizers: the fried jalapenos, fried shrimp, fried clams, crab cakes, french fries, and raw oysters. The fries and oysters were both good, shrimp was pretty fair, everything else was subpar. I tend to agree with some of the prior reviews that the fried food tasted similar to the fried foods one might purchase at Sam's club, which is disappointing considering the name of the restaurant is ""battered and fried"". The crab cakes especially were very poor and had a rubbery texture. I think that overall a few tweaks in the food quality and frying techniques would make a huge difference. That being said this is a place that I will give a second chance, but if the food does not improve I see it as nothing more than a place to drop in on occasion and grab a beer and a few oysters. Pros: A nicely decorated place, good service, very friendly Cons: Food is pretty average more

heresay, not had the pleasure of trying yet! 6/13/2006

I know tons of people that have eaten there and they said that it really was good food and great atmosphere. Just haven't had the time to find out myself. I think that I will take the time and find out for myself. Pros: do not know yet Cons: do not know yet more

Just what we needed 6/7/2006

Last night 18 of us from our softball team drop in with out a reservation after our game at shelby park. They let us take over one whole side of the patio and they didn't mind that most of us where still in uniform. Ussually when we go in a large group it is pretty crazy, but last night it went so smooth getting our food and drinks and most important our checks. Without a doubt the Buffalo Shrimp was the tables favorite. We loved it so much we kept calling friends who were on other teams to come and join us. I think we have found our new post game hang out. Pros: Buffalo Shrimp, Patio Cons: Beer selection more

Its All good 6/5/2006

I really enjoy dinning here. Our daughter is 18 months and we love taking her with us for an early dinner. Everyone is so nice to her even when she drops her animal crackers all over the floor. We never have trouble getting her to eat some of our fish. My husband ussually gets what ever the daily special is but I am stuck on the Grouper tenders. Thanks for the non-smoking and being so family welcoming. Pros: Kid friendly, Grouper, Specials more

My favorite new Bar 6/1/2006

Congratulations to all involved with Batter'd & Fried. I love going there with my girlfriends for girls night, I love going there with My husband for date night and I love taking my kids there so I don't have to cook. I love the oysters and just hanging out and relaxing. The non-smoking is a great touch. I don't always eat when I go there, I just love the look and the feel of the bar. Thanks, its my favorite place to hang out. Pros: bar , oysters, no smoking Cons: not open late more

Food lacks flavor 5/31/2006

The menu has changed, but the food is still bad. It's mired in grease, hardly the fresh catch seafood taste I was hoping for. I ate the chip/fries, just so I could eat something. And how can you mess up fries? Well, they come in a cute little brown paper bag that just traps the heat and makes them soggy. I ate out on what is called their ""patio,"" but really it's just like five parking spaces with tents. more

New Menu Rocks 5/30/2006

The first time I went here I was disappointed with the limited selection, specifically, no salads anywhere to be found and everything was fried. So I sent an e-mail to the owner as he askes for feed back on the menu. I was surprised and impressed with a very prompt response. He said that they were working on expanding the new menu and He would let me know when it was finished, but he has already added salads to the menu. Last Thursday we went back and wow, what a selection. Salads, seared specials, and Cheese Burgers. But I would still like an alternative to Fries, like a baked potato, but over all it was great. I had the Fried Grouper on a salad. Way to go guys! Pros: Salads, Grouper, New menu Cons: No other sides more

Best Fish and Chips in Nashville 5/25/2006

No doubt about it they have the best fish and chips in nashville. I want to try something else when I go but I just keep getting the fish and chips. The Fish is so moist and fresh almost buttery in a way and the batter has such a unique flavor. Not like anything I have ever had before and when you dip it in their tartar sauce it is amazing but they don't give you enough of it. But over all, Two thumbs up! Pros: Fish, Chips, Tartar Cons: Menu is hard to read, more tartar more

Great Place 5/24/2006

Been going since they opened, they always have good food. more

I feel at home 5/24/2006

Monday was my birthday, so when my girlfriend asked me what I wanted to do I told her that I wanted to go have dinner at the new Boston place and whatch the Redsox play the Yankees. So she made a reservation for 6 of us. When I walked in I felt like I was at a place back home in Holyoke, Mass. The Redsox stuff on the walls was awesome. They had a table reserved for us where we could whatch the game. Everything was great, the food was awesome. I have been searching for a place that served great seafood like I used to get at Bernies just outside of Westover. No Doubt I have found it. I will definatley be back. Pros: Redsox Stuff, Raw Oysters, Awesome Cons: non-smoking bar, No Harpoon Ale, Only one TV more

Another Great Addition 5/23/2006

My Wife and I both work for the Metro Courts so we are always looking for a place to go for lunch that is easy to get to and easy to get in and out quickly. We recently discovered a new restaurant about three minutes from downtown and less than ten from Metro Center. The fried seafood over a fresh salad is wonderful and such a nice change of pace from what we are ussually getting. We have enjoyed lunch there so much we have gone there several times for dinner. After talking with a very nice young man the other day, who I think is the manager or maybe the owner, he told us about the reviews and asked if we would mind writing what we told him on this web site. At the risk of giving away the best kept secret in Nashville, We really enjoy this restaurant. Pros: easy quick lunch, inexpensive, friendly people more

Forget the Fish Get the Burger 5/23/2006

My boyfriend dragged me to this new seafood restaurant he heard about at work. He loves seafood, I, on the other hand, hate seafood. So I was not looking forward to going. But when I got the menu, I had the option of chicken tenders, pasta, or a burger. I opted for the Boston Burger with french fries and cole slaw. Forget the seafood get the burger and fries. The burger was so juicy and delicious and the fries were fantastic and served in this little brown paper bag. I ussually like honey mustard with my fries but they didn't have any, and they were still good with regular mustard. My boyfriend got the Fried Oysters and some shrimp. He said they were fantastic. By the way, the patio was wonderful too. This land lover will defanitly be back for the Boston Burger. Pros: burger and fries, patio Cons: no honey mustard more
