Best hair color in city 10/16/2009

I have been going to Borja Color Studio for 6+ years and it is in my opinion the best colorist in the city. I have gone to the big and fancy salons but they do not compare. Both Borja and Danka are color pros and they provide an intimacy and understanding this is so refreshing. If you want natural and beautiful looking hair than look no further. Pros: All positive! more

It’s such a wonderful feeling to know I can call Borja Color Studio even at 5:30 on a Friday afternoon and a friendly voice will always answer my call. Today they must have heard something in my voice because, warm and friendly as always, I heard: do you want to come tonight or tomorrow? Fantastic Color, Great Atmosphere 3/29/2009

Truly personal service - Borja listened to what I wanted, including asking me a lot of questions. She made suggestions, and then kept checking in with me. My ideas were taken seriously and I got the color I was expecting. The salon is comfortable and the staff is very caring. I've been to other Midtown salons, but Borja Color Studio is the best. It is nice to be able to go to a hair salon where you can find service, quality and atmosphere at the same time. From the moment that you enter Borja Color Studio you feel pampered. The staff is very friendly and professional. Worst Color ever 3/16/2009

I was so excited to go to Borjo from the rating it got from city search.\r \r I went during the week. The salon was empty and I still had to wait over 30 minutes to have my hair done. No apology either.\r This was the worst highlights I have ever had done.\r I walked out looking like my roots hadn't been touched. After the blowdry, I asked if i could get the roots touched up. She got very upset with me and just said\r "" you done""\r After paying $260 my hair looked the same as I did when I walked in and left with my hair in a pony tail.\r I was also charged $10 for the shampoo.\r Don't waste your time going there!! A true highlight! 2/20/2009

After a friends recommendation I found myself in this cozy, comfortable coloring salon in the middle of the city's hustle and bustle. I walked in and was intastly greeted and felt very comfortable almost a feeling you get when you get back home after a long time away. \r When I met Borja, who is the owner of the salon, I felt instant trust and I didn't get disappointed.\r My highlights were a true highlight! They matched my skin tone just perfectly and I've never looked as naturally blond before. It really made my day! Expensive, rushed job! 2/10/2009

I recently came here and got highlights from Borja herself from all the great reviews I read. At the moment I walked in, Borja shook my hand and looked at me slowly from head to toe in a condescending way, which I felt was so rude and should've walked out right after that. I told her I wanted noticeable highlights, but she probably only did about 10-12 streaks of highlights in my hair, which actually turned out to be orange, which I specifically said, anything but orange!! She did not even bother to blowdry my hair with a comb, but instead just ran the blowdry all over my hair until it was dry. The worst part of it all I was billed $260 for this horrible job and horrible experience. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else! Pros: location Cons: EXPENSIVE, terrible job! more

brunette turned blond 2/9/2009

I've been coming to Borja for 3 years. I love what she does. My hair is dark brown but turns out with wonderful golden highlights. She always works with me and adapts to any changes I want to make. I really like that she paints on the color rather than uses foil - as a result she can get a lot closer to the hairline. Aside from her talent, I like the ambience of the salon. It's not at all a scene - very relaxing. She always gives me an appointment when I need it (don't know how she's able to do this but she always is) and gets me out in a reasonable time. Best Hair Color in Manhattan 2/4/2009

Borja and Danka at Borja Color Studio are two of the most gifted colorists I've had the pleasure of meeting. Borja does my hair now for over a year and I love it every time. She is fantastic about making sure the color works for me and she is totally honest about the best cut and color for my face shape. I get compliments about my hair wherever I go. Not impressed with the ""Impressionist"" of the hair set! 1/28/2009

I went to Borja for highlights and was sadly very disappointed. I had an appointment with Borja thinking I would walk out of the salon with fabulous highlights. Instead I left with brassy, blondish highlights...that might worked had I not had dark brown. I've had my hair highlighted several times in the past (at other salons) and I've always been very happy with the results. Borja used only color on my hair which was way too light- she even re-did it and added more highlights! Terrible! I think this salon would be great for those with blonde or light colored hair...but if you're a brunette I would definitely stay clear! I actually would recommend going to Culter! more

Great Color 1/27/2009

I heard about the things Borja can do with colors but I was still a little skeptical since I've been to some of the ""creme de la creme of NY"" and have never been fully satisfied with my color. Last week I came in with a very difficult situation - I had about 4 different colors in my hair due to a mishap and thought I'd see what they think. I was hesitant to do anything but decided to go for it, and I must say I am very happy with my color. The most important things to me about my color is the impact it has on my skin tone and its sustained vibrancy, healthy look and shine - and this is the first time I have left a salon feeling that all of those have been accomplished. Given the number of colors in my hair that had to be dealt with I can only imagine what Borja can do for me next time. more

Phenomenal colorist! 12/5/2008

I have seen Borja for haircuts and color on and off for about 6 years. Moving from Manhattan was difficult but finding someone as good was IMPOSSIBLE so I'm pleased to be home again and have her in my backyard again.\r \r What I like about Borja's salon is not only that they do a very natural top quality job, it's also that she's straightforward with you. If the color you're asking for is too dramatic or going to look unnatural, she will advise you against it and explain why. \r \r When I decided to cut my bangs - straight across in a hip new way she was all for it and put me at ease by cutting a little bit at a time so that the shock was not too intense and also so I could stop her along the way if I chickened out. I went out later that night with my new bangs and my stylist friend told me ""your hair has never looked better, don't ever change it!"". Success! \r \r It's not cheap but it's worth every cent! I'll never go anywhere else as long as my job keeps me in NYC!!!! Her appointment times are usually flexible but be prepared to wait sometimes. Also, if you have a color nightmare from another salon/stylist no one is better out there to repair someone elses disaster. I've seen some awful coloring jobs walk in to see her and when they leave, it's a miracle! Total transformation. I've seen her be a saviour more than once! RIVKA - best highlights and more 11/18/2008

I have used Rivka to do both my highlights and my cut for only a few years now and EVERYONE notices the difference. Her highlights are more natural and thus better for my hair which is now healthier. And, she approaches her work almost like art, she is very serious about the results and always wants to make sure that her clients are happy with the results. Additionally, one never feels that she is running from client to client but rather she focuses on one client at a time. After wonderful color, Rivka gives a great haircut, blowdry and I always walk out of the salon in a minimal amount of time feeling pampered and beautiful. \r more

WORST HAIRCUT EVER 11/11/2008

I went to Borja Studio after a friend of mine told me how great they color your hair. I took her up on it and decided to go in for a single process. THe color was wonderful. I was very pleased. Then I asked if I can get a haircut. Borja came by and told me I needed some layers around my face and since I have a bob haircut, I was skeptical but I trusted her. I told her that I style my hair straight and I need to be able to do it and not cut it too short. NEEDLESS to say: the cut was HORRIBLE! I walked out and wanted to cry. I went to 4 other hairsalons after this just to receive a consultation and each hairstylist (top stylists in NYC) asked me the same question: Who cut your hair? Obviously it was someone who had no clue about cutting hair. \r Every one of these stylists told me that my haircut was the result of an inexperienced stylist who knows nothing about haircutting. \r It's so sad since I paid over $120 for a haircut that my 5 year old nephew could have done. I will NEVER go this salon even though my color was wonderful, but I strongly urge you people not to even step foot in this salon for a haircut. There are FAR better salons closeby with stylists obviously trained to cut hair. \r Borja- You should be ashamed of yourself for calling yourself a stylist when you can't cut hair- maybe you cut hair for women over 80 who can't tell the difference but for a professional woman like myself- you are the WORST EVER! Pros: only color Cons: haircut. DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO GO FOR A HAIRCUT. more

I've been going to Anthony and Rivka for years at their Salon in the Barneys NY area. They just moved to Borja Color Studio. Same great service! \r Rivka does the best Holly Golightly steaks in town. They jump out yet look natural at the same time. My hair shines like a mirror when she finishes the blowdry. For the full walking on air experience let her do your cut too. \r She'll leave your hair long and put the layers in just the right places. You'll wish you were going somewhere speacial after, to swing that goddess hair around. \r My husband goes to Anthony for his cuts. Anthony takes his time though hubby doesnt have that much hair. The cut is perfect and super chic! \r Rivka thinks he does the best short hair cuts on Earth, bar-none.\r Call them to book an appointment 917.744.7289\r \r Oh and they have never kept me wiating more than 15 minutes in the 12 years i've been going to them. more

Consistent, careful, best cuts and great color 10/29/2008

Rivka and Anthony, now at Borja, offer great haircolor and the best cut in town. They're really artists--Rivka is known for her careful application of color and Anthony for his precise use of the scissor. (Anthony trained with the legendary Vidal Sasson himself though you'd never know it as Anthony is very modest about such things.) I've been seeing them for years and always get tons of compliments on my hair after a visit. Their client base is varied and loyal--bankers, lawyers, publishers, actors, directors and producers. The salon is bright and laid-back with terrific views of 57th Street,. The staff is very personable--not an intimidating Madison Avenue experience. The music is always great too--ask Rivka for a peak at her playlist. more

And as far as a haircut for years I could never find someone to cut my hair the way I liked it. Borja showed me there are people out there that can cut your hair the way you want. What a terrific salon for all women! I' ve been blessed to find a salon where the staff really care about how you look when you leave. I've been going to Borja's for many years and have never been disappointed, nor have I ever seen a client leaving with anything but a great look. At times I've marveled at how naturally perfect these hair colors looked. Color is not all that they do and I've benefitted over the years from Borjana's expertise on cuts and body waves as well. Thewre is no nonsense here! If Borja feels that you're making the wrong choice , she will tactfully tell you so. That is a priceless quality. I can't imagine anyone going away unhappy, because she and her staff are always willing to do whatever they can to make a client happy.\r I unequivocally recommmend Borja Color Studio for every asdpect of your hair care.
