What a disappointment... 2/14/2010

Based on the good reviews on Citysearch I was very excited to give a try on this restaurant. I made my reservation 2 months in advance for Valentine's Day. Unfortunately, the whole experience was a big letdown. The place is indeed small and cozy, but nothing else. I spent US $ 111 on the standard menu for the day (only my wife and I) expecting nothing but awesome food. We had lobster soup as appetizer. Very good. From this point on was downhill. I picked fish and my wife chicken (with fancy names). Both side courses were identical (?!): green beens and dirty rice. Green beans in a French dish? Fish was just OK, but the chicken was bland. Not gourmet food, that's for sure. Rice was undercooked and some of the green beans were burnt, compromising the flavor of both dishes. I told the manager in charge about it, but he looked bored to death while listening to me. By the way, the service was painfully slow. We picked peach cobbler as dessert (another "classic" of french cuisine - ha ha) and the crust was inedible. I could seal bathroom floor tile with it... Last, but not least, the kitchen wooden oven was flooding the restaurant with smoke at the point we left the place wearing smelly clothes (expensive ones, after all it was Valentine's). I wish I have a Time Machine. Of course, I'll never come back. Paulo Moncores Pros: Cozy Cons: Food and Value more

Loved This Neighborhood Restaurant 12/5/2009

This was our first visit to Bistro Don Camillo. We loved the variety in the menu making it difficult to decide what we wanted to try first. The hot bread and oil were delicious. We tried the mussels, mixed green salad, pork chop w/ mango salsa and halibut with roasted potato's and vegetables. We both loved our selections as well as the house French wine. Jean, owner / Chef greeted us and made sure that we were enjoying our meal. We will definitely go back soon! A great place to do a rehearsal dinner. Pros: Food, Presentation, Quiet Setting Cons: None more

Excellent food, decent service - I'll be going back. 8/4/2009

The fresh bread and olive oil/garlic/herb dip served as an appetizer is very nice. The Chicken Cordon Bleu was excellent and the herb roasted potatoes and green beans couldn't have been cooked more perfectly. The dessert menu was very diverse and the creme brulee was spot on. Oddly enough, I found the lunch menu to be more inviting (selection-wise) than their standard menu. I'll definitely be going back there for dinner sometime and hope the experience will be equally as rewarding. Pros: Food selection, Food quality, Ambiance, Dessert Menu Cons: A little pricey, parking can be tight when busy more

Disappointed 5/30/2009

We went there with a group of friends on a Saturday evening. The place is small but was nonetheless half empty. However, they do not take reservations. You would think that if they can't fill up to 50% of capacity on a Saturday, they might as well take a reservation, but no such luck. So when our group showed up they made us wait for a long time to put tables together. While waiting for the table we ordered a glass of the house merlot for each of us. The house wine was really bad, as in $5 per bottle from Walmart cheap stuff kind of bad. They appear to be understaffed. All waiters and other personnel were running around and working hard and still they could barely keep up with the half-empty restaurant. As a result, service was less than good. By way of example, when we finished one of our wine bottles we ordered another one and had to remind the waiter 3 times over 15 min to bring out the second bottle. The real disappointment was when the food came out. Friends who ordered steak said their steaks came out cold. The veal was not seasoned well and tasted bland. I ordered duck and it was too salty and overcooked. At the end our checks averaged $140 per couple (which included 3 semi-good bottles of red wine shared among 8 people). Overall, this place is really pricey for the quality of service and food they offer. We will never go there again. There are plenty of other good French restaurants in town to choose from. Cons: Mediocre food and service more

really good 8/12/2008

I really enjoy bistro provence (the other restaurant of Geny and Jean Philip) and i gave a try to their new restaurant. Now i don't know wich one to choose. Food was great, service very pleasant (altthough the waitress Elissa sdq from Provence was missing) and price affordable. Now they do to go menu, to bad i am working to far, it would have been a nice meal during my lunch break. more

Nice quaint neighborhood Bistro 5/4/2008

We visited on Thursday night right after Bistro Don Camillo opened, along with some neighbors. Since it's walking distance, we couldn't wait for the opening. Food was very good, service was good, ambience was great; the only draw back was the food preperation time. Wine list was nice, but on the pricey side, with limited good values. I had the duck and it was excellent, some of the other dishes didn't match the quality of the duck. The group enjoyed deserts more than anything. Pros: Abience, Warm Feeling, Location Cons: Wine prices, Food Prep Slow more

The best 3/12/2008

What a wonderful french/italian restaurant!!! It is hidden on Del Monte @ Voss, but take the time to stop by... I live in the neighborhood and I think Bistro Don Camillo is just what we needed. I love their pizza and pasta dishes, recommend the escargots and fried calamaris. They have special for lunch and dinner (one french and one italian). Their wine list is also french and italian with a wide price range. Try to get there early on the weekends as they tend to get very busy. Pros: food, wine list, location, ambiance more
