I went it to Mr. Notebook to ask about buying a recovery disc. My cursor was blinking and I couldn't get into windows. I was asking if I could buy a disc and he told me that they couldn't but he said he could fix it on the spot in 5 minutes. I showed him the machine and sure enough it was working with all my data. I will be coming back in the future. Pros: null Cons: null more

AWESOME SERVICE, (and mine was free!) 9/20/2011

I was a little hesitant about going there after reading some reviews but I must say I personally had a great experience. My laptop was having a quirky internet problem which was messing up internet explorer and firefox. I came in the store with no appointment (I don't think you need one) and the nice guy at the counter found the problem with my virus scanner and some ibm utility were conflicting. They were very patient with me (I'm not a techie!) and put on a free antivirus package for me... ALL FOR FREE! I was in there maybe 20 minutes and they resolved my issues and helped me understand the problem. Highly recommended. Although I'm happy with my current laptop I was eye'in a nice new Lenovo thinkpad they had on display. Mike offered to transfer all my old files free.. if rent hadn't been due that week I just might've sprung for it! Thanks Mike! more

go somewhere else 1/21/2011

I have bought two laptops from Mr. Notebook both of which crapped out in less than a year, they said it was the motherboard both times. I am taking them somewhere else tomorrow to check because it seems to me that they use the motherboard excuse quite often and it turns out to be something way less expensive. So I just purchased a desktop from there...dumb of me I know...and asked for very specific files to be transferred...they were not transferred, now they want seventy five dollars to transfer them...ha. Go somewhere that isn't trying to screw you over, the extra money spent will be well worth it down the line. And fyi I never complain or write bad reviews that is how much I can't stand Mr. Notebook. more

Best Computer Shop In Town 6/24/2009

Go to Mr. Notebook, immediately! Screw all the other stupid places. Pros: the best computer shop in town Cons: it's on campus more

Nicest guys! 6/7/2009

My 2 year old ripped about 10 keys off my Toshiba. I put all the pieces I found in a ziplock and took it to them. They told me a new keyboard would run me about $99 but the technician Stephan said he would try to put my old ones on first. About 15 minutes later he came back and had all but the ENTER key back to normal. I was happy he got that much done so fast, but he asked if I could wait a few more minutes. "Sure?"Well he found a broken machine in their junkyard with a good ENTER key and put that on for me as well. When I asked how much I owed them, he said "NOTHING!" He wouldn't even let me pay for the part that wasn't mine. I was so thrilled I dropped a $20 in the tip jar and forgave my son! more

Faster than Dominos!!! 5/20/2009

Cracked the screen on my HP notebook at Barne's n Noble last night. [ I forgot to zip my case :( ]. Called them next morning and they had the screen in stock and said to come drop if off and it would be ready in a few days. When I got there, Mark told me if I could hang out for about 20 minutes that he could do it on the spot. WOW! I ran down the street to Starbuck's and by the time I was back it was done! All this while they were in the middle of remodeling! Thumbs way up! more

I had called to ask 2/7/2009

How much it would cost to get the power connector repaired on my Toshiba Satellite. The person I spoke to on the phone immediately insisted that and I quote ' the connector on the notebook is not a manufactured defect in that machine ' ( although every on-line resource I checked INCLUDING Toshiba's Forums stated that it was KNOWN issue BY their technicians and if it were still under warranty is replaceable ) and as I requested information the tech( ? ) desk clerk then began to berate me as if I were some kind of an infant. Stating that the repairs would be some thing to the effect of 175$ ( which is 75$ more expensive than I had found on-line FROM Toshiba for even their OUT OF WARRANTY repair of the issue and they even paid shipping ) plus parts. \r \r But that is not really my complaint about the service that I did not even bother to receive. The fact that the individual I spoke to was easily the least pleasant person I have ever spoken to in many years .. and I was tech support at De more

Needs to improve counter service 12/10/2008

I have visited the on Rio Grande twice in the past five months. Pros: Offers services and support for laptops. Cons: Ignores anyone that they don't deem important enough to acknowledge. Poor customer service for non-hipsters. more

Slow, slow slow!!! And mean! 11/15/2008

If I thought the guys at Mr. Notebook were really that swamped, I could forget they take two weeks to do a 15-minute simple solder job. But, no matter how pleasant I am, they are perpetually pissed off - just plain old bad attitude.\r \r Learn some retail skills, guys - it's like acting....even if you a.) don't want to be there, or b.) you feel like crap that day, or c). the dorks in the back won't cooperate with you or d) you effin' HATE your customers (seems like the case), then just pretend you're Denzel or Brad, plaster a fake smile on your face and go out there and ACT like you're happy to see us. more

Mr Notebook is good folk!!! 7/23/2008

Just wanted to give these boys good words for saving my keister. We use a bunch of laptops to work on our cars and had a race coming up in Dallas that weekend. One of our guys smashed the unit w/ some important programs on it and we were stuck. Mr Notebook saved the drive and moved it to another of our machines so we were able to finish tuning and make it for the event. We didn't win, but at least we got there Thx guys! Pros: Bright boys, fast work, give it to ya straight Cons: need more locations more

Excellent service and saved $! 4/24/2008

Thought I'd write in with my experience about a 'connection' problem with my notebook. I had the same issue the previous reviewer had with their notebook.. you had to hold the power cord just right to get the unit to stay on. However, Mr Notebook knew exactly what the problem was and fixed it without replacing the main board (what the manufacturer was going to do for 3x the price). It bother's me when people slam businesses who don't take the time to educate themselves. It wasn't a "solution" to me to leave the notebook stationary.. its a notebook, it moves around.. what a ridiculous comment. They offered me data recovery (by the way the rate is $75/hour and was quoted 1/2 hour for all my music, documents, etc). I was also offered another work around by making my hard drive external where I could leave instantly with my data (under $30). I, however, chose to have my notebook repaired... Mr Notebook was able to resolder a new 'power pin?' on it so it would power and charge batter more

Willing to work with even the techo-phobic!! 4/19/2008

I have bought three computers from Mr. Notebook and have not any issues except ones that I caused. Every time I have brought my computers back in they have taken the time to help me and never ask for money. I guess it just makes sense to them which is good because I have no idea what I am doing!!! Thanks guys!! Pros: Customer service Cons: Closed on Sunday more

Honest folks, saved me from scrapping machine! 4/9/2008

I actually had a similar notebook issue with the ac adapter connection on my notebook like the previous reviewer.. After discussing the issue with HP the diagnosis was a bad motherboard (apparently the failed component WAS part of the motherboard and they said the entire motherboard would need to be replaced.) Mr Notebook looked at the machine and was able to solder and REPAIR the bad board at less than half the cost that HP wanted to fix it. Bottom line, accurate diagnosis - saved me $$ and was done fast. Pros: accurate diagnosis/excellent price Cons: limited parking, downtown more

If laptops are all they do, why can't they do it right? 4/1/2008

Someone I know took their laptop to Mr. Notebook's West Campus location because it suddenly turned itself off. Mr. Notebook reported the motherboard was damaged and offered "data recovery" at $100 per hour. An independent review of the problem from someone who actually has a Computer Science degree and a conscience revealed the solder joints on the A/C power connector had been damaged, a typical problem for older laptops. \r \r In reality, no "data recovery" was required as the system was found to be completely functional. Solution? Keep the laptop stationary while in use. While there is a problem, a service was offered without correctly diagnosing the issue, or they've simply stayed in business for the past ten years by taking advantage of desperate students.\r \r Did I mention their refurbished laptops are just as costly if not more than new ones? more

product warranty 11/1/2007

mr notebook sold me a laptop that had a cracked motherboard and would not warranty product without "appraising" the problem-then they would make adjustments on value of laptop. i had experienced the problem from the day i bought it and they put in used parts(i had a it person verify this) to "fix" the problem. i contacted both mgrs in austin and san antonio and gave me the same run around. i have since talked to several computer folks and i am not the first story like this they have heard. i now have a $500 p.o.s.. i can and will talk live about this if needed. Pros: none Cons: you are buying someone elses headache more

Timely, honest service 8/23/2007

I had a great experience with Mr. Notebook. They quickly and correctly figured out what was wrong with my laptop and did a good job explaining the technical stuff to me. They gave me a three to four day repair window, and a very reasonable estimate for the part replacement. (Their quote was more than a third less than what I'd been quoted by another company.) They were done in less than 48 hours, much sooner than I'd expected. No complaints! They are very knowledgeable and fast. Pros: knowledgebale, fast, economical more

do NOT go to Mr. Notebook 5/7/2007

I took my laptop to Mr. Notebook (the one near 24th street near UT campus) because it wasn't starting up. When I took it there, Mr. Notebook said that a video chip had been corrupted and that I needed to replace the motherboard and it would cost $600. When I asked Mr. Notebook the name of the video chip so I could look it up on the net, the technician (Sam) was very rude and told me that there are so many different names that it was impossible to know which one I had (which is strange, because you think if they looked at the chip like they said they did, they could have told me what chip I had). When I asked for what website might talk about the corrupted chip, the guy was really rude and told me to look it up myself.\r \r I decided not to fix the computer and it was completely unusable in its state. I decided to ship the computer to a relative who builds this type of computer to look at it to see if it was salvagable (being that the thing cost me $4000), he told me that all of the addi more
