Editorial review from Citysearch 9/24/2012

Dr. Gulzeth is one of the most caring, compassionate vet's I've ever taken our pet to. I can't say enough good things about everyone at Beachland Animal Hospital and appreciate everything they've done for our family. more

If you love your pet DON'T go to Beachland!!! 3/13/2012

I foolishly took my dog here to have a mass remove from his mouth. I paid for a biospsy to determine if it was cancerous. Everytime I called for the results, I was given some ridiculous excuse why they couldn't be provided. At the time, I actually believed that the results weren't available and that the vet would eventually call me when they were. The call never came. As it turns out, my dog had malignant melanoma! I didn't find out until another growth appeared in his mouth. Fearing the worst, I called the vet again. Only then (6 months after the biopsy!) was I told about the cancer. \r \r This afternoon I took my dog to a reputable vet (Hillcrest Animal Hospital) to see if anything could be done to save him. The prognosis is terrible - he has 3 tumors in his lungs. I am so sad and so angry!!!! Sad that my dog will probably be gone by this time next week. And, angry that Dr. Gulzeth didn't care enough to tell me my dog was really sick when there was still time to possibly save his life!\r \r What's the lesson? First, don't cut corners when it comes to caring for your pet. I went to Beachland because it was close and cheap. In the end, my dog paid the ultimate price. Second, do your homework. Had I read previous reviews about Dr. Gulzeth I would have never risked my dog's life by taking him to Beachland. \r \r Need a good vet? Try Hillcrest Animal Hospital. My dog is 12 years old and Hillcrest has provided loving care to him since he was 4 months old. They cost a little more than Beachland but it's worth every penny!!!! Wish I had taken my dog to Hillcrest when I found the first growth. He might not be dying now. :o( more

Great vet! 3/18/2011

I was surprised to read other reviews. I've been taking my pets to Dr. Gulzeth for years and she is fabulous. She charges very reasonable prices -- for routine visits and shots, but especially when you have an emergency. One of my dogs swallowed large pieces of bone and needed surgery immediately. If I had taken her to one of the emergency pet clinics around town, it would have cost at least 3 times as much. I've even had Dr. Gulzeth offer to meet me at the office on Satuday and Sunday evenings when I was really worried about one of my dogs. Who else does that these days? If you don't like how she talks to you -- just watch how caring she is with your pets. \r \r There are vets closer to home, but it's worth driving a little father for great care for my pets. more

Horrible Place...Stay Away! 3/14/2010

My puppy recently ingested something poisonous, and I needed to get her to a vet a.s.a.p. I searched for the closet vet's office and just happened to find this one, so I decided to give it a shot. It was too early in the morning to contact them, so I told my husband before I went to work to stop there and see if they had any appointments open. The vet was kind enough to see my puppy, with the exception that she contacted me at work and proceeded to yell about not calling ahead of time. \r \r During our very short conversation, she asked me ""what I expected her to do to my puppy""? That is absolutely ridiculous, as she is obviously the veterinarian so shouldn't she already know what needs to be done. However, I am a vet assistant but she didn't even know that when she asked me that question. I told her that my dog was dehydrated from vomitting and diarrhea, and needed to be given I.V fluids. I also mentioned that my dog had ingested some type of poison, and needed treated for it. \r \r Towards the end of our conversation, I mentioned that my dog has not had a bowel movement in almost two days following the spurt of diarrhea. I requested that she take a stool sample by swab, to test for worms and possible parvo. I just wanted to make sure that my puppy hadn't contracted parvo, due to her decline in health so quickly. With an attitude, she responded that she could not swab for anything and that she needed an actual stool sample. What vet on this planet, can not perform a simple swab test or enima to get a sample? I find that to be absolutely ridiculous. She ended the conversation with the comment, that if my dog still continued to throw up after the treatment she was going to give my puppy, that I needed to take her to the emergency vet clinic. Yeah right, everyone just has thousands of dollars lying around to hand over to an emergency clinic.\r \r After she was finished with the procedures, I was charged $110. Then as soon as my husband got into the car, my dog had a bowel movement and he ran back inside to give them the sample they said they needed. I was then charged another $85, for two tests. The worm test was done right then and there, but they said the parvo test would not be in for a few days. Come on, haven't they ever heard of a simple snap-test? If my dog really did have parvo, (which I don't believe that she does) she would be dead by then.\r \r So $200 later, I still have a vomitting puppy who is now not even attempting to eat or drink anything. Before she went to this vet, she at least drank water and tried to eat. Now, I have to administer my own fluids to the puppy orally with a syringe, and through subque treatments with an I.V bag that I got from my work. The puppy was also sent home with medication and I/D. When I returned from work later that night, I went to give my puppy the medication that I was told needed to be given twice a day. To my suprise, it was a simple strip of Clavamox. CLAVAMOX? REALLY? That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. Sure this medication can be used to treat a number of infections, including respiratory but not a dog who has been poisoned by a chemical agent! I have several strips of Clavamox in my house, if it were really that simple but it's not. I would have just used the strips that I had, instead of taking her to this horrible vet. I'm sorry, but this is by far the worst vet I have ever encountered. I am not even a licensed veteranarian, and I can treat my puppy better than she did.\r \r If there is anyone who is actually considering, taking their precious puppy to this vet you better think twice. She is very uneducated, has a serious attitude problem, and a total rip-off. I could have done the same thing for free, and saved myself the $200. I am lucky that my dog is still alive, due to the carelessness of this vet clinic. Please do not take your animal to Beachland Animal Hospital. You will save yourself alot of aggravation, time, and money. Pros: There weren't any pros at all Cons: Expensive, unknowledgeable doctor, and unnecessary behavior. more

Worth the travel for me 5/1/2009

I've been taking three dogs to Beachland for over 5 years.\r The staff and Dr ulzeth. were bery supportive when my dog became terminally ill. My other two are battling CHF and seem to be beating the odds with balanced doses of meds. \r Dr. G. came in on a Sunday once to attend to one dog that had taken a downturn days after surgery.\r I moved from the East side to the West, but I continue to utilize Beachland's services. Pros: Excellent support staff more

No go for this PUP! 3/26/2009

I recently moved away to another state and I called for my dogs medical records to be faxed to the new vet. When speaking with Gulzeth she was unreceptive, saying she is one unable to fax records because fax machine was broke and wants me to hand write the records. On top of that she ask me what kind of records I want? Like shot records? I am not the vet and does she not know customary procedures? After pulling records she is unreceptive, uncaring. I had to pull info from her by asking questions and then she would only give half the answer and insisted on ending conversation. I was so unsatisfied with her service because we have been coming to her for years. If you care about your pet and want a vet who also cares about your pet this is not the place. Even though prices may be lower the service is even less. Pros: Not many Cons: Impolite, unconcerned, unhelpful more

Thumbs Down 7/9/2008

I had a bad experience and don't recommend Dr. Gulzeth. I brought my dog there for a first visit. Dr. Gulzeth didn't ask me about my dog's health history or about my dog's diet and barely touched my dog to check out her body. Not only that but my dog is very sweet but this vet insisted on putting on a muzzle to cut my dogs nails. My dog has never needed to be muzzled..ever!. But when she botched the nail cutting with bl--d pouring out of my poor puppy's nail I knew why she muzzled.....because this vet doesn't know how to do a simple pedicure...for which she charges $20! In addition, Dr. Gulzeth didn't follow though on making sure we got some medication that was recommended for my dog and she became defensive and demeaning when asked about it after the bill was paid. Recommend: Stay Away! Pros: Some of the prices were good. Cons: Doctor has a revolving door attitude toward patient, doesn't ask questions, can't do a pedicure withou causing pain to dog. Office didn't smell clean. more

Lucky Local Pet Owners 4/7/2008

Each time I am in need of essential pet services this is the place I call. No hidden fees and basics (like spay/neuter) are half to 2/3 the price of other vets. These people truly care about animals and animal lovers. They are knowledgeable, affordable, and compassionate. I hope they stay around a long time. more
