We came here looking for the good pizza we heard about and left very unsatisfied. The problems we encountered were a menu that misrepresented the actual food, staff and manageme...

Very uncaring!!! 2/7/2012

I made a reservation for our 30th anniversary one week prior to the date. I was told by the manager that ""It wasn't really needed as the time was early afternoon."" I insisted saying that it was my anniversary and I wanted everything to be perfect. I gave my name and said party of 2. We drove that day 2 hours from home anticipating a wonderful meal. Only to walk up to the door, we see a sign on the door. Closed Feb 5th. Open Feb 6th......No one had taken our phone number. We were out of luck, and needless to say very disappointed. I called the next day and talked to the manager once again, asking exactly when they had decided to close for the Superbowl..... He stammered and studdered, remembering my reservation. He offered a gift certificate........ Do you really feel that I can ever make up my 30th wedding anniversary?!?!?! We will not recommend this restaurant to anyone!!! Obviously they do not know how to run a restaurant!!! more

Excellent Food & Service 7/9/2011

Stopped here for the first time last week with business associates. I took the bartender's recommendation on the Chicken Ripieno. It was excellent as well as everything that came with it. Service was friendly and homey. Plan to go back next week with my father. more

Overpriced and mediocre 9/12/2010

My salad was one of thse iceberg lettuce mixes from a bag, right down to the wilted brown pieces on top, smothered in their house italian dressing, thickand mostly mayo and not very tasty. more

We really enjoyed ourselves 6/10/2009

We went to Bartolino's Osteria on June, 6th and had a wonderful time. Pros: Great fun evening with my wife Cons: Didn't notice any more

Delicious- With a capital D! 6/4/2009

We went up to Bartolino's the other night, it was a Tuesday and the place wasn't to crowded, which we took as a bad sign but we stayed anyway....and we were really happy we did. I had a chicken dish which was delicious. It was seasoned well and cooked well. The tomato sauce on my side dish tasted fresh and flavorful. My wife had a fish dish and it too was seasoned and cooked perfectly and her vegetable side dish was fresh and crisp, not mushy and salty like some places. It was definitely not a place where the plate looks incredible and taste the exact opposite. It was good, quality, and well seasoned food, which seems so hard to find now. We'll be back! more

So bad I had to review (part 1) 5/16/2009

I have never written a review on citysearch before but was so offended by my meal and general dining experience at Bartolino's last night that I felt I had a civic duty to inform others. Pros: I was able to regain my appetite the following morning Cons: Bad waiter, worse food more

Worst Italian on The Hill 4/15/2009

The food at this restaurant can hardly be considered quality Italian. The pesto, which is a common and basic dish, was served with tubular noodles that appeared to just have some torn cooked basil atop. It looked terrible and was almost tasteless without any hint of parmesan or pine nuts. The other pasta dish, the broccoli cavatelli, was an improvement, but by no means compares to any of the authentic and delectable dishes we've experienced in this area. The salmon was somewhat dry and just average overall. The service was fairly satisfactory until we asked for vegetarian options and the waiter proved unknowledgeable. Our father had an accident in the booth and the staff spoke audibly and disrespectfully just around the corner at the host table. An unpleasant situation was made much worse by their embarrassing comments and unwillingness to be understanding. With so many incredible Italian restaurants on The Hill, don't waste your time on this below average place. Pros: Salad was good Cons: Pasta- especially pesto more

Not good for pizza 3/26/2008

We came here looking for the good pizza we heard about and left very unsatisfied. The problems we encountered were a menu that misrepresented the actual food, staff and management that didn't know their own menu, and being overcharged. more

Worst Italian on The Hill 4/24/2007

I went to Bartolino's because of the good reviews. We arrived on a Tuesday evening and we were the only ones there(5 of us). The service was terrible and the entire staff was rude. Our food took an hour and fifteen minutes to arrive and was luke warm. I had the lasagna which consisted of 4 lasagna noodles stacked on top of each other with no cheese in between and two cold meatballs on top with runny marinara. The atmosphere was far from special and the food was overpriced. GO TO CHARLIE GITTO'S, the food is slightly more expensive but worth every cent. Their service is exceptional and the atmosphere is very romantic. Pros: You get to leave Cons: You actually went more

Can't beat the service and the food!!! 5/30/2006

Bartolinos has been my favorite place to eat for the last 5 years. The staff is very warm and are unbelievably kind. I have gotten to know the staff very well over the past few years and have become close with the majority of the staff. Whenever you walk into Bart's they know your name and know what you like. It is an excellent place to take a date or to dine with friends. The food is wonderful and the service is second to none. Bart is always there making sure eveyrthing is running smoothly, and the bartenders and hostesses are wonderful!!! If you don't eat here, you are missing St. Louis's best kept secret!!! more

Not worthy 3/22/2006

Not sure how this restaurant ended up on the most Romantic list...unless you consider waiting for 45 minutes with reservations and rubbing backs with the stranger next to you because the tables are too close together. I felt robbed out of what should have been a wonderful evening. Cons: Service, Food more

Amazingly wonderful dishes! 12/19/2005

I can't believe I've lived here my whole life and it took me 33 years to get to this place! What a fantastic restaurant! Great feel, great service, and unbelieveable food! The waiters and staff really treated you like part of the family. If they know you're a first time customer they are going to make sure you order something worthwhile of the occasion! Great wine recomendations! I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. more

Maybe Biased 6/16/2005

I bussed tables here as a kid like 35 years ago so I may be biased....but this place is the best. Great food, great atmosphere, now an excellent wine list, and did I mention great food. Years ago this was just a place to go after hockey games or a place to hang out with Bart. It still has the same family atmosphere but the food went from good to wonderful! If you miss Bartolino's, it will be your loss! more

Favorite Italian Restaurant 7/22/2004

Bartolino's on the Hill is my favorite destination for great Itilian food and a good martini. It is a smaller restaurant with limited seating so reservations are a must especially on a weekend. I have seen large parties at the restaurant - but with limited space it may be difficult to get a table. A party of 6 is easily accomodated. I highly recommend their steaks and a cosmopolitian martini. Being located on the Hill adds the already great ambiance! I drive from Illinois at least 5 times a year to go to Bartolino's! Pros: parking in back, appropriately priced, great drinks/bar more

Our Favorite in St Louis 12/19/2003

This is our favorite in St Louis and we eat there whenever possible. The veal is incredible. The service is great and the prices very reasonable for the product. Only one thing: get a reservation or you may wait a few hours for a table. We waited 2 hours plus the first time and it was worth it. more

Bravo! 10/7/2003

This is the place I make my parents take me to everytime I come home! It is quintessentially St. Louis-Italian food. Word to the wise--try the wine that Bart Jr. imports from his family's village, San Martino in Pensilis. It's a brash red that compliments the Bartolino red sauce perfectly! Pros: atmosphere, service more
