Editorial review from Citysearch 12/4/2014

We moved to a Richmond in 1996 and found Steve and his staff at the Barking Lot. Our dogs loved the pampering they received on their spa day. They knew when we turned the corner onto to Belmont where we were headed. They were so excited they would drag me into the shop where they would push their way to the back. I would never take my dog anywhere else! I highly recommend Steve and his staff! more

Very Disappointed... 10/12/2011

I'm fairly new to the area and took my dog there when I first arrived. The job they did was good. I went back 6 weeks later for a "trim" and flea shampoo, if needed. My dog is on a flea and heart program and has always been "Flea Free" more

a sorry state of affairs 9/24/2011

I was one of this shops first customers. Brought my little one here for many years; alwaysrequested the same ""natural"" haircut. One evening I picked her up and she had a beard like a schnauzer. WHAT?! The groomer said she must have gotten confused when she reviewed the card and apologized for not having time to fix it. So, I went home and trimmed it myself. Next time I dropped my little one off , I was talking to the owner and mentioned the beard and asked to be sure to do the natural. Out of seemingly nowhere, he shouted at me and told me that my dog was old and had a sore mouth and it was more important for her to be comfortable than for the haicut to please me. I stuttered and said that I was unaware that my dog had ever had a sore mouth. Then I left and cried my eyes out. When I picked my little one up she looked fine and we said goodbye for the last time. Never went back again, never heard anything. I groomed my baby for the rest of her life. And did a fine job :) more

The ONLY Groomers for my dogs! 10/1/2009

I've been taking my dogs to The Barking Lot for 15 years. Had a wonderful Springer Spaniel who had awful skin allergies and, if not treated correctly, would get infections. When I asked my Vet if I should keep a grooming appointment when she had a particularly bad breakout, he at first said no and then asked where I took her to be groomed. I told him I took her to The Barking Lot and he told me to go ahead and keep the appointment; that he'd trust Steve to take care of her. Working around that dog's breakouts had to be like clipping around land mines, but she was always perfectly done. Steve would even ask me if I wanted to bring my own shampoo to see that she got the exact prescription and no new or irritating chemicals. Because the prescribed treatment caused some stinging, he would give her a soothing oatmeal bath to alleviate the discomfort after the treatment was completed. I truly think her care at The Barking Lot helped her avoid skin infections and kept her alive and healthy longer. She passed away a few years ago at the ripe old age of 17 1/2 and they still ask about her when I take my other two dogs in. Pros: Caring and totally professional service Cons: none more

I have just read the review from UnleashedRD. Boy does this perso have the wrong place. I think she must be off. If my boy had such a bad experience as she describes, I'd never take him back the second time. more

The Real Deal 4/8/2008

I travel 30+ miles to get to The Barking Lot. I pass many other pet grooming locations on the way but would never dream of stopping at any of them. They just don't come any better than The Barking Lot. My cherished Basset Hound, affectionately considered my "son", was given the royal treatment for 9 years. He grew to love the shop and Steve and his employees grew to love Skeeter. He was always expertly groomed, toe nails perfect, long Basset ears clean as a whistle. He was always ready when I arrived and was in a great mood - I think he knew how good he looked! Skeeter had arthritis and joint issues and the folks at the Barking Lot were not only gentle with him, but provided padded cushions and mats to keep him feeling his best. When my sweet Skeeter passed away, the entire staff shared their sympathies and memories with me; something you just don't find unless people truly care. Pros: Dependable, expert grooming techniques, loving care, go the extra mile Cons: Absolutely none more
