Bangkok Thai Restaurant

I live close to the Bangkok Thai House restaurant. For over 10 years my friends and I have been devoted customers. We have been to many Thai restaurants in the city, trying two dishes in particular which are exceptional at the Bangkok. We wanted to see if anyone could surpass them. They have not. I feel like I am describing a scene from a vintage movie, writing about an old favorite neighborhood fixture. There is nothing fancy about this little treasure. What you will find is a clean, softly lit humble restaurant with staff wanting to please and they do that well. In this mix is a charming elderly gentleman who has been there since it opened in 1994. I ordered a bunch of things on their menu. Boy, was I sorry. The food was tastless, except for this hint of bitter salt that was the aftertaste of every dish. the soup, curry puffs, the Pad Thai, and the Massaman curry.- can only be considered good diet food (It destroyed my appetite after a few bites). My only recommendation for this restaurant would be to shoot the chef. Hire a new one and give some samples to the bayridge community to show they are no longer cooking bitter, salty, waste. A $40 order turned into a full bag of garbage 10 minutes after it entered our apartment. I was hoping for some good grub and ended up with the equivalent of throwing up in my mouth and swalling it for dinner. They should be embarassed. I have eaten alot of thai food and this is the first time I had shredded carrots mixed in with my shrimp pad thai. Aside from that unpleassant surprise, the pad thai was very oily and lacked flavor. I was not pleased and would not order from here again. If a thai restaurant can go wrong with a staple dish like pad thai, I don't have any desire to try anything else on the menu. My boyfriend and I have been to Bangkok Thai dozens of times, and have always been warmly welcomed with a smiling face by the older man who owns the restaurant. It seems as if it is tucked away from the bustling streets of Bay Ridge, and you are transported to a Thai restauarant from another time. The chicken satay is out of this world, perfectly flattened with no fat, and charcoal grilled to perfection. The peanut sauce is the best I've ever had, smooth and creamy (better than any in Manhattan). The chicken pad thai is $7, and I have never strayed from it. It is not to be missed.
