Best

I have been to the Aveda Institute for hair cuts and single process hair coloring with senior stylists. I have always been very happy. I used to pay about $200 from my stylist for...

I used to goto the Aveda Institute about 5 years ago for haircuts. I did hair modeling for them so I did not have to pay and always had great experiences. Last weekend I decided...

cheap!cheap!cheap! 7/20/2007

This is one of the cheapest places in New York city that you'll find to get a haircut. Even though your not going to walk out looking like a supermodel it is a decent haircut for its price. I would check it out once. more

3 C's - Cheap Cut &Color! Great Hair experience here - I would go back and bring friends. 4/4/2006

I needed a trim for a layered cut that had grown out and since it was a originally a Disconnected technique of cutting that was used...I was sure the student I was confused when he first saw it. He was a nervous guy...I think more so socially awkward than with the scissors. He cut slowly and carefully and seemed unsure. He offered me a conditioning treatment, gave me a short shoulder massage and touched up my lips with gloss. This was all mandatory in what he had to accomplish in the hours of classes that was required for the course. My hair came out shiny, neatly trimmed along the shape of all those layers. I was quite impressed that he was able to follow the original shape and cleaned up the out grown look so nicely. I also suggest getting a color here since Aveda colors are more vibrant that what I have experienced from other companies. They also focus on natural solutions and although not entirely organic...they come close enough. Although, the academy is located down in the butt of Chelsea near the Holland tunnel, I think it is worth the trip. The trainees are enthusiastic about their new career, they will take their time with you and they are indeed well trained. I totally recommend a visit here! more

cheap cuts by students 8/17/2005

If you're in need of a decent, cut and you're on a budget, then this is the place to go. Located in Soho (but not in the fashionable area with shops and stores nearby; this Aveda is located in a somewhat busy business area), the institute is a place for students to hone their craft. Sometimes you get a good haircut and sometimes you don't. I wouldn't trust my hair color to the students here but it is a good place for a trim (about $20) and a nice blow out (this used to be included in the price but now they charge extra). The prices have increased slightly but it is still cheap compared to other NY salons. You will need to call and make an appointment and the wait can be long but they do often have cancellations. All in all, one of the cheapest cuts in NY. more
