The food was okay, not super great. It didn't appear that any of the pasta was homemade. The food was similar to what you get at a Carrabas or Olive Garden. However, the service was terrible. Our waiter was more interested in watching TV at the bar than attending to our table. I had to repeatedly ask for the waiter from other employees just to get him to come by and refill drinks. After the order was taken, (with no offers of specials or recommendations) the guy disappeared. When he finally brought the check, he disappeared once more and was never seen again. The waiter for another section finally cashed us out. This is not the kind of service one expects when dining at such an establishment. I expect this kind of stuff from Chucky Cheese, not an upscale Italian place. (Even the chains are better then this) Oh, and we were charged for two soups when we only purchased one, but after waiting for nearly an hour to get someone to finally take the check, we didn't dare ask for a correction, or we might still be there now. This restaurant is outstanding! A few friends and I visited Dallas for my birthday weekend, and we went to McKinney Ave. to see what we could find for a decent place to dine. Avanti was the place that jumped out the most to us, especially since we could hear that there was live music playing. The decor and the ambiance of the restaurant was perfect: plenty of places to sit, beautiful candlelight, amazing music, etc. We were seated on the patio, which I would recommend to anyone planning on dining there. It was great being able to look out the windows onto the street, and at the same time it was intimate enough for us to still hear the music but also carry on conversations with one another. The food exceeded all of our expectations. The vegetarian spinach lasagna was out of this world, and the wine that was recommended to us was a brilliant complement to the wonderful food. The service was also excellent. Our server was polite, cordial, and very attentive and helpful whenever we had a question. I have raved about this restaurant to every one of my friends and family, and we all plan to return the next time we are in the Dallas area. We can't wait!
