My favorite all time dish here is Uncle Wade's Ribs. Just typing it out makes me hungry! I get 2 side...

The fried chicken, smothered pork chops, collard greens, macaroni and cheese and peach cobbler at this place ALL compete with those at my beloved Jordan's Cafe. The ambience in he...

delicious! 2/23/2006

i love aunt kizzy's. the first time i went, i couldnt stop smiling. the wait staff treats you like family they haven't seen in years. and the food! i can't get enough. but if you're watching you waistline- better stay away. Pros: food, staff, parking Cons: calories!! more

""Come an' git it Daddy!"" 2/4/2006

Hadn't been here for a while because I'm an obsessive calorie counter, but you've got to live your life right? Still the greatest southern comfort food this side of the 405. I had the red snapper (baked instead of fried), and it was cooked to order, flakey, tender, moist, and delicious. Along with the sweet collard greens, white rice and gravy, mac and cheese (yes!), and corn bread biscuits - you'd think you'd died and went to Graceland. Aunt Kizzy's will ""love you tender,"" and make dinner a ""hunk-a-hunk-a burnin' love, ahhhhhhhhhhh!"" Pros: happy food, sweet lemonade, it's different Cons: the anti diet more

Love Aunt Kizzy's!! 10/7/2005

Really enjoyed the food here. The ambience is pretty fun. Our service was really friendly although I didn't care much for the lack of a menu and table service for lunch. Had to walk up to the counter. Found that odd. Also disappointed that the lunch menu was small compared to the dinner menu. Was my first time so now I know to go there for dinner. Another thing that irked me was when we asked for sweet potatoes as one of the sides, the server behind the counter mentioned it wasn't one of the sides that comes with the lunch special all the while scooping it up quickly before we could change. Easy $2.50 charge. I don't hold that against them because, again, now I'm in the know. Pros: food, ambience, parking Cons: service more

COMFORT FOOD AND LOTS OF IT 8/30/2005

I have had the pleasure of eating here since before it moved to this location from a much smaller place in the same mall. I have always been treated like a guest at your aunts house. The portions of fried chicken or fish or chicken and dumplings will never leave you go hungry. In fact, I have always had to take some home. Home made mac & cheese fresh out of the oven makes your mouth water. This is not a place for the elegant attitude minded. Family restaurant with family portions and big smiles from the employees. I am still upset that they removed the smothered steak from the menu!! Pros: portions & taste, cost, speedy service more

Great food! 2/13/2005

Despite some spotty service experiences, I have always enjoyed dining at Aunt Kizzy's. I'll admit to not being an expert on soul food, but every meal I have had here has been terrific and stepping into the Back Porch feels like stepping into another time and place. Definitely worth checking out! more

Wouldn't last a month in the South... 9/1/2004

The food sits in big vats under heat lamps, making the greens soggy, the macaroni chewy, the fried chicken dry, etc. None of it seems freshly made to order. For brunch, they only make a certain amount of fried chicken, ""so don't waste food."" What this means to you is that you may wait in line 8 minutes, only to have them say that they are now out of chicken and the next batch of will be ready in 10 or 15 minutes (this actually happened to me). Staff treats you like: ""You don't like it? Well there's hundreds of others in LA who'll come back, so we don't really care."" Once a year I get a wicked soulfood craving and go to Aunt Kizzy's...and once a year I am reminded that I vowed never to go back the last time I was there. Pros: Ambience Cons: , Service, Value more

Pretty Good 7/29/2004

This is a mom and pop restaurant, so you get mom and pop quality. I'm a regular at Aunt Kizzy's. Your service all depends on who's waiting on your table. They have some excellent waitresses and one or two not so great waitresses. Most importantly, the food is usually pretty good. I would recommend this place. It's not going to be the greatest soul food you've ever had in your life. So if you go with over the top expectations you may be disappointed. It's good, but it's not superb. Pros: good casual dining, good parking more

Rude Staff 7/8/2004

I have been to Aunt Kizzy's twice because my husband likes the ""southern home cookin"". I say nice try. THe first time for lunch it was good food and ok service that seated us fast and took our order and served us quickly...but they never returned. THe second time was a disaster from asking us to move to two different tables, bringing out our food 1 hour later and never returning to our table and ignoring our hand gestures. Not once did I see ""heaping helpings."" Pros: parking Cons: , food portions, flavor more

Best Sould Food on the Westside 9/11/2003

I recently discovered Aunt Kizzy's and it brought back pleasant memories of my grandparents' soul food cooking. I LOVE THEIR COLLARD GREENS! This place is at least as good as Roscoes Chicken & Waffles. Pros: Collard Greens, Fried Chicken, Candied Yams more
