Astroland Amusement Park 6/24/2006

Every summer when the weather turns warm I pack the family and take them to the Amusement Park in Coney Island. The kids always love it and the beach is nearby. I personally love riding the Cyclone. My kids love the tilt a wheel and anything that spins really fast. There's even a kiddie section for tots. A word of caution. Avoid the overpriced food and bring sandwiches and water bottles from home. more

sadly overhyped 4/12/2006

I've been to Astroland a few times... and I get so ripped off every time! I never learn. The rides are $2-4 each, but you can get a wristband for about $20, which allows you to go on unlimited rides (excluding bumper cars and the Cyclone). Still, it's hard to get $20 worth of rides out of Astroland. Food and drinks are very expensive. My advice would be to walk a few blocks away from the boardwalk and get good cheaaaap food at some Coney Island restaurant. Skip Astroland and hit the beach -- it's free and just as fun! more

A reminder of what Coney Island used to be. 2/15/2006

Astroland is a small park that retains the Coney Island feel of amusement park but does not capture the grandure that Coney Island once had. They have rides that both kids and adults can participate in, they have those annoying coin games and a video games. I think it has gotten very expensive, but everything is these days. However, the kids we brought with us enjoyed the day out, and the park does have a Ferris Wheel and is right next to the Cyclone. If you are looking for a day to thrill the kids, Astroland will fill the bill. more

If your looking for a gem inside brooklyn and a treat for all ages then Astroland amusement park is for you. They have rides, games, food, and so much more. They have rides for both adults and children and games where you can win all sorts of things. They even offer video games and all types of electronic coin games. There is plenty of parking, both paid and street and the prices are very affordable. You can even catch a cyclone game if your in the area. more

old school 8/17/2005

Perfectly situated adjacent to a beach, this amusement park offers some old school (and, indeed, old) stalls and games. Its Ferris wheel is the only one that scares me because of how it swings especially when you ride with the maximum number of people. Cyclone, the wooden roller coaster, will give you a thrill simply because the wood shakes! more

Cyclone is worth the trip 8/16/2005

If you come all the way to Coney Island to only the ride the Cyclone it will still be worth the trip. This rollercoaster is a joy to ride on. The way it creaks makes it scarier than it actually is. The view at the crest is beautiful. The coaster is well maintained and pleasant to ride on. Kids and adults will want to ride again and again. more

Surf and screams 8/16/2005

Located on Coney Island in Brooklyn, this famous amusement park features the popular wooden rollercoaster, Cyclone. Built in 1927, this wooden rollercoaster, reaching speeds of 60 miles per hour, is a NYC landmark. Although it is neither faster nor has bigger drops than lots of newer rollercoasters that have been built since then, this rollercoaster is a must see because of the sheer fun it provides. The creaking of the wood is normal and part of the thrill. The park also features other rides such as the Water Flume, Top Spin, Power Surge, etc. They also have kiddie rides. more

Classic Park 8/15/2005

Astroland is also known to many as Coney Island. The two are completely different in meaning but similar in people's thoughts. Astroland has been around for a while. The rides are vintage but the attraction is still there. Nothing makes a kid more excited than taking a train to Coney Island and seeing the giant glowing Ferris Wheel as the train approaches it's final stop. This might not have the pizazz of Disney World or the rides of Six Flags Great Adventure, but it has it's landmark attractions (after all, this is where Nathans originated). People will always remember Astroland as the city beach that was easily accessible by train. For city dwellers without cars, this was a big deal. Coney Island is not the cleanest of places. The water is dirty and the sand has way too many shells. But it is still a beach after all. There are lots of activities to indulge in rather than going to the beach. Astroland offers many rides and there is a batting cage within walking distance. Definitely not a bad place to be. more
