First off let me tell you about the ower, she is wonderful! I have been going to ascend about two years, the first facial i had i wasnt too happy with. Then Tara introduced me to Carmen, and what a difference!! My skin was so bad i didnt even want to go out in public, but after carmen treating my skin for about 6 months and using their ALIKE skin products it has complely changed my skin and my life!!! I would like to start by saying that my first experience at ascend day spa was actually a nice a experience........but the second time around was another story....So i planned to have a day at the spa with a friend for my birhtday. The original appt was set for the afternoon which was fine. Unfortunately i had to reschedule due to a family emergency i was informed by the owner who is also the receptionist that i will not be able to reschedule a second time ok no prob right???...well the week of the spa day comes my sister had to have a surgery and I needed to be home with her and had to take her to a doctor's appt the same day of the spa appt which was a saturday Thinking im being courteous i called the thursday 48hrs in advance to inform them that i will be unable to attend saturday and since the owner/receptionist told me i couldnt reschedule again i figure to just cancel the appt. She proceeds to tell me that there is a alert on her computer by my appt saying that i will be charge so im confused i asked your bylaws state that you must call 24hrs in advance so you will not be charged, im calling you 48hrs so why are you charging me......she goes into the issue that i rescheduled from before and they called and moved my appt up and they actually did me a favor so now she is making me feel guilty about canceling and then tells me i don't understand how this business works (so now im ignorant??) and she is going to charge my acct anyway......now when you give them your card number its security to hold the appt and if you proceed with the appt the day of you then have the option to pay CREDIT OR CASH and also in case you back out less than 24 hrs its a security for them. she threatens and says to me that i am still charging your account we are going back and forth i am still asking her why she is charging me i explain i have a family emergency and she has the nerve to ask what is the emergency??? i guess she thought i was giving her the run around. she tells me to hold on and then says she will call me back i wait 2 to 3minutes call her back and than all of sudden she is not charging me anymore.........SO I DECIDED TO CALL MY BANK TO WARN THEM THAT A TRANSACTION WILL BE ATTEMPTED ON MY ACCOUNT THAT I DID NOT AUTHORIZE......AND TO MY SURPRISE ASCEND DAY SPA ALREADY TRIED TO TAKE THE MONEY FROM MY ACCOUNT SO DURING THE TIME I WAS ON HOLD THAT IS WHAT THE OWNER/RECPTIONIST ATTEMPTED TO DO HOW INSANE IS THAT.....so of course i called back and told her nice and politely what i knew and that being the fact she was the owner i would expect better customer service and that i was disgusted by her. Im just disgusted by the whole situation. Ive never experienced anything like this in my life and have never been so disgusted....i know this is a lot said but please be careful if after reading this you decide to go to this place the staff is very nice but the owner is a money hungry heartless person. We cannot control what happens to the people around us and my priority is my family not getting a damn facial and the fact that she is that money hungry to fill in for her now 4hr slot that is open is just ridiculous.....just disgusting...oh by the way i originally posted a good review on oct 18.......i edited the previous post on october 29, 2009. This is the best spa treatment I've ever had - I've been to spas at 5 star hotels all over the World and to the best spas in Manhattan, but none were better than this. My therapist Sharon is AMAZING - I have never felt so relaxed and comfortable. I was motivated to get the massage by a strained calf muscle and the mud, scrub and rub helped quite a bit. Sharon is absolutely the best massage I have ever had and I have been around. She is a fabulous person and her massage is effective and feels amazing. I see her almost biweekly for chronic back and neck pain and it is the only thing I have been able to find that gives me relief. The facials are amazing as well and the natural products are the best. They used to use eminence organics and they are now using ilike which is similar. I have also had body scrubs and I get my pedicures at Ascend, both great. All services I have had are better than anything I have experienced at high-priced NYC spas whereby I leave and say, "that was Ok but totally not worth the cost". I have been searching so long for a great day spa that used quality all-natural products and approaches to skincare and body wellness, Ascend is that spa. I had the Fire & Ice facial which was recommended to me for revitalizing my skin which was suffering from "winter dullness" (so I was informed). I wasn't aware of what that exactly meant but my very informed and experienced esthetician explained to me that with extreme cold temperatures skin suffered from dryness and poor circulation. Well she used two masks on me, one was a Paprika which stimulated my skin tremendously (it actually felt hot but not irritating almost like I had eaten a chili pepper) bringing circulation back to my skin and then an ice menthol mask to bring the temperature back down, close my pores and tighten up my skin. It was exhilarating and I could smell the fruits and herbs that the product was made of. That was also what really impressed me, the skincare line was made up of nothing but fruits, herbs and vegetables and all the procedures including the extractions were done by hand. I am not exaggerating. Just 5 hours ago I received the best massage ever and I am not new to massage therapy. I have been receiving massages all over the world for many years now, as my job requires that I travel alot, and this was by far the best. I recently had a facial done at Ascend by their new esthetician Maria, who is absolutely a gem. I had her holistic based facial which included a Reiki massage technique that got me completely relaxed. Her hands were soft yet powerful making the extraction period almost painless. I had the all natural enzyme masque that proved to have the same glowing effects on my face as microdermabrasion without the harsh chemicals. My face came out looking pump and glowing looking like a new me. I'm excited that I don't have to travel into the city for such great service. I highly recommend you try it for yourself. I can only speak for myself but I've been going to Ascend Spa every month for about a year and its the only place I've ever found where I feel completely comfortable in their care. I've had everything from massages to facials to manicures and pedicures and every appointment I've had has been excellent. I've found the staff to be skilled, professional and organized. Their prices are very reasonable for the level of service you get. I've gone to other spas (some that charge much more) and I'm convinced that dollar-for-dollar, Ascend Spa is located in queens. And it does not mean that if its not in the city it's not good. No gimmicks, no sales pressure - just great services by top people in a nice setting. more

Total back facial time - 25 minutes - I went for a back facial and paid $40 with what was supposed to be 15% off - well I got a steam for 15 minutes, very rough wipe off of the sweat with a towel which scraped me, then extraction for 3 mins - just to start off I am supposed to be relaxing, huh. Then I got rubbed down with a scrub which was wonderful but lasted all of "1 minute". Then SHE put a mask on and rubbed it off and the back facial was done. She never told me her name, which was odd - So I go to check out and remember the 15% - well I have the email which I presented to the receptionist (who also did the back facial - LOL) so SHE goes to figure out what 15% of $40 is on a yellow post it note. When I get home I figure it out myself and find that what she charged me was incorrect AND it took her 5 minutes to figure out. When I got home I realized that she gyped me by $2.50. Please don't waste your time - Stay Away. Stick with spas in the city. Pros: Close by - walking distance Cons: Unprofessional and they don't know what they are doing. more

I felt compelled to respond to the last review of this spa. $35.00 for a Brazilian Bikini is NOT expensive. I live in Manhattan and I make the trip on the LIRR out to Ascend because the quality and level of expertise is comparable if not better than most day spas in Manhattan and the prices are great!! Maybe this client was getting her waxing done in a nail salon which I'm certain can not compare to the service clients receive at Ascend. As for the staff or the front desk person talking down to clients, I can not believe it. I have been a client there for almost 2 years and I am always greeted with a smile. The staff works wonderfully with each other making you feel part of a family. It would be a grave error to allow this client's attitude affect your choice to try this spa. more

I had my first facial yesterday with Carmen. This was my first visit to Ascend as I was a regular at another salon but am looking for a new skin care salon. I found it on my first try. Staff is welcoming and friendly, Carmen gives a great facial. There was no hard sell of products as you typically find. I have been to a lot of places and they mostly just seem to care about selling you products. Not so here. Their primary concern is providing the best service. Thanks for a great experience. This place is okay if you live nearby, but I wouldn't make a special trip. The prices are not that hot- you can definitely do better. I tried it twice but it just was not great. It's small so it gets kind of loud which is not very relaxing. more

I went in for a massage and after 1 hour, I felt like a new man. I never had a professional massage before so I didn't have anything to compare it to but there's no way to describe how de-stressed I felt. From the moment I walked in, the staff was very pleasant and polite. My experience was so good that I sent my wife in for an all day spa package and she LOVED IT! I would just like to say that I never went to a Spa nor thought of surprising my girlfriend with a full day spa treatment, until I read about Ascend Day Spa in a recent TimeOut Mag Spa issue. When I stopped by to purchase a gift certificate I was a bit neverous because I had no idea what services to purchase, but the friendly staff was extremely helpful in walking me through the process. Overall when I mentioned to my girlfriend that I was treating her to a full spa day package, she convienced me to get one as well for myself so that we could go together. Our experience at Ascend was the just the thing we needed to jump start our relationship. Ascend is well worth the trip - it's along side the LIRR station and minutes from Manhattan or Nassau County. The atmosphere is relaxing and serene, clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly without being pushy or fawning. more

I had a wonderfully relaxing experience thanks to the ladies at Ascend Day Spa. The facial I received from Carmen was the highlight of my day. She has such a gentle and soothing touch that I almost fell asleep. Thank you Carmen, I look foward to my next treatment with you. I also received a manicure and pedicure that was very detailed. In other words, Rosa followed my suggestions and gave me the exact look I wanted. I can't say I had the opportunity to get to know the owner Tara except for the usual polite small talk. But if I had to judge her by the ladies she employees, I would say Tara is a good business woman. And if she continues to offer this excellent service, I am certain Ascend will be great success. I must admit that I am not one to leave reviews or fill out surveys, but I feel it would be unjust not to take a moment to share the experience of Ascend Day Spa with others. The cozy atmoshpere of the spa attracted my attention. Everyone was pleasant and the owner was very attentive to my needs. I felt welcome and relaxed, and my facial was delicious. What an amazing place! I first went for a quick manicure a few months ago. Now I'm a regular customer. Ascend has such a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. The staff is great. I get the Eminence Facials on a regular basis, along with waxings, manicures and pedicures. I recently tried thier Body Scrub and Wrap- which was excellent. I met the owner and she was a delight to talk to. Not only was she very knowledgeable about her products and services, but she was pleasant to talk to.
