Office obviously doesn't pay attention to reviews 6/27/2011

I just called the office to make an appointment, during office hours and listened to a recorded message that was not well thought out. I have no complaints about the business itself but they do need to produce a better phone message and follow up on calls quicker than they do. more

Very Professional 12/14/2010

I have been going to Dr. Appleton for the past 15 years and have found him and his staff to be very professional, pleasant, friendly and helpful. Dr. Appleton is very knowledgeable and has done a great job for me with my contacts. I have never had to wait more than a few minutes before being seen. more

Wonderful staff, great doctor 5/11/2010

The staff at Appleton Eye Associate in the Methuen branch is wonderfull. The office is located in the historical part of Methuen next to the historical Methuen Memorial Music Hall.\r \r The office personnels are very pleasant and helpful and make you feel important and welcome. They are very attentive to your needs. My family of five all come to this Methuen office for our yearly vision evaluation. We are always greeted courteously and with smiles. They are always willing to offer their help to your satisfaction. My 3 kids love to go there for the way they are treated. \r \r The doctor is very pleasant as well and very thourough in her examination. She takes the time to explain to you in detail your vision condition and she answers all your questions with care. She is also very good with little kids and give them the sense of trust and importance. \r \r Whenever my kids, my wife and I have any issue with frames or lenses or contact lenses, they act on that right away. They are helpful and very patient with my kids during the selection of frames and contact lenses. If you need any paper work, they are more than happy to assist you in any way they can to resolve your issue.\r \r I strongly recommand them for their professionalism, manners and cheerful spirits. Pros: Helpful, pleasant, caring and knowledgeable more

good doc, strict policy 2/2/2010

Appleton himself is very knowledgeable and explains everything. The office strictly limits how may contact lenses you can buy online, so forget about buying several different kinds to evaluate them or to have a backups for lost lenses. One box per eye only. Pros: interactive doctor Cons: contact lens policy, length wait for appointment more

Great doc but VERY inconvenient 10/8/2009

I have been dealing with this practice for 3+ years now. (after writing this, I'm not sure why I haven't gone elsewhere). The up side is that the optometrists have always been kind, patient and professional. The optometrist I first went to has since left the practice, but the new optometrist who took her place is also great. The down side here is that your odds of reaching the office are about equal to your odds of winning at a slot machine. The office must have one incoming phone line and no automatic voice mail--most of the time you get a busy signal. When you do get through (and you are fairly excited to hear the phone ring), you often get an answering machine that asks you to call back during normal business hours. However, the message doesn't tell you what those might be. In addition, their website (yes, they do have one) does not list their ""normal"" business hours. It takes me on average about 10 times to get through to either the Amesbury or Newburyport office each time I call. In addition, the office staff is not always pleasant when you do reach them. I did reach a very pleasant woman in Newburyport today, however, when I told her about the problem, she said she couldn't do anything about it and that I should write a letter and drop it off at the Newburyport office. Although I don't fault her for this advice, I find the suggestion ridiculous given the options of modern technology. Anyone have a suggestion for another optometrist in the Newburyport area? Pros: optometrists are very nice Cons: nearly impossible to reach a human via the phone more

It's okay, but... 9/9/2009

I've been a patient for a few years. Office location is perfect for me and I love Dr. Kevin but the experience of actually trying to make an appointment (or trying to get through to the office for anything at all) is almost annoying enough to make me want to switch. Case and point... I've called at least ten times in the last two days for a simple request and each time I get either a busy signal or the machine. Yuck. Pros: Great optometrists Cons: Terrible office staff more

Strange Nasty Place 6/19/2009

Person answering the phone has nasty attitude. I read another review and thought maybe it was just a bad day experience. I was wrong. This place is very nasty. They Ask for all personal info before making an appointment then gives an appointment 9 weeks out!!!! for a simple eye exam!! Unbelievable nasty place... nasty tone insulting comments...Ugh!! I have better things to do then get treated like dirt, wait 9 weeks for a simple eye exam and then get a huge overpriced bill to pay for it all---NO THANKS Pros: none unless you like to be treated like dirt Cons: crappy attitude, Overcharge, 9 weeks for an appointment! more

Stay as far away from this place as you can 6/19/2009

Called to make an appointment couldn't get any information from them without telling every last detail of personal info then was told I had to wait for 2 months for an appointment ! The lady on the phone was absolutely as nasty as you can imagine. Wow Can't imagine how they stay in business. I had read another review similar to mine and thought oh well maybe it was just something with that person. Now I know everything she said sure was absolutely right on! Cons: Nasty attitude and no appointment for over 2 months! more

Seeing Clearly 5/19/2009

It make take literally 10 tries to get through to the office, but it is worth the effort once you get to the exam room or choose from an extensive selection of eyewear. The office staff seems stressed, but the optometrists are quite the opposite, calm and caring about the patients. Pros: Caring Optometrists Cons: Constant busy signal more

I had a different experience from JBT 10/15/2008

To JBT:\r \r Thank you for your honest reply--I am so sorry to hear of your friend's terminal illness and that s/he was indirectly subjected to such inappropriate treatment. I can't speak for the Amesbury office--I only go to the office in NBPT. I can tell you & anyone who may read this that in NBPT, the office has been wholly respectful to me and my family. Again, I cannot speak for all, but my experiences have always been positive...now, we'll see how this continues: I am in dire need of an upgrade in my contacts/glasses prescription & I leave to go back to college in two days! Hopefully, they will be as accommodating as I've always known them to be. I'll be sure to let you know if I am treated w/ disrespect, &c. \r \r Again, this would be unusual--I love them all in the NBPT office! If you haven't tried yet, may I suggest the NBPT office?\r \r I wish you & everyone else who reads this success in their search for professional eye care...our sense of sight is invaluable to us & we need honest, careful, genial, and well-trained optometrists who will treat us with respect and ensure that we are given the best care possible. Personally, I found this in Appleton Eye Associates of Newburyport, MA. \r \r I'd be interested to hear what others have to say! Pros: Friendly staff, Dr. G, in particular has never ceased to make me laugh and put aside preoccupations w/regard to glasses, &c. Also, always willing to teach about his profession :-) Cons: Everyone's in need of eye care, so I've found there to be waiting lists, &c. I wish the office would expand! more

Appleton is Lousy - Rude and Careless 8/27/2007

The receptionist at the Amesbury office is rude and careless. I am hugely offended that the representative of this office showed such disinterest and could care less about helping someone with a limited time left to their life. I will never do business with nor recommend Appleton Eye Associates to anyone in the future.\r \r I called to make an appointment for a dear friend who is new to the area and staying with me because of terminal illness. \r The call went like this: \r Me: I'd like to make an appt. for my friend who needs an eye exam and glasses.\r Receptionist: Have they been seen here before?\r Me: No\r Receptionist: What type of insurance do they have? (asking this before even asking me for a name speaks volumes)\r Me: Masshealth Commonhealth\r Receptionist: We are booking into the end of October (2 months away). I don't have anything sooner.\r Me: I'd like to think that my friend will still be around by the end of October but he has terminal cancer. He needs an eye exam and a new pair of glasses.\r Receptionist: (in a cavalier tone) well, we don't have anything with anyone until the end of October. (I'm amazed that she couldn't even pretend care!)\r Me: Well, do you have a cancellation list? (notice that I had to ask about this?)\r Receptionist: Wellll, weee dooo, (in a stalling cavalier tone) but it's verrrrryyy looong. I can put your name on the list....if you want....\r Me: Well, it doesn't sound like you want to...thanks all the same.\r Receptionist: (no response - hung up on me).\r \r Appleton is at the BOTTOM of our barrel. more
