We went there for brunch a few months ago when they just opened and were charmed by the setting. Beautiful bar, bright room and nice garden. But the service was terrible, the wait...

Better service at McDonalds 8/2/2010

Went here for an early brunch on Sunday with a party of 6. There were no other diners in the restaurant. We sat down and ordered our food and 20 mins later one of our plates arrived - a salad. 20 more minutes go by and the rest of our food comes out one by one. We had asked the ditzy waitress why the salad was served so early and were given a ""oops. Oh well"" response and a ""you have a party of 6 so it will take a while"". Um, hello? There is NO ONE else in this joint! We should have left then. Pros: nice decor Cons: horrible snot-nosed waitresses more

Consistantly good quality 11/14/2009

Oh the applewood bacon. Steaks and seafood cant be beat. Called american comfort food. We keep returning. Quality food reasonable prices. Good service. Bring a date or just girls night out. They have some pool tables and game room in the basement. But i go for the salmon & risotto. Pros: Can count on a good meal Cons: Can be noisy & too dark to read menu more

NO SHOW HERE! ATTENTION ARTISTS AND FRIENDS OF ARTISTS...pls pass along 12/18/2008

Unfortunately the owners of this restaurant are unprofessional handling any kind of artwork. Please do not show your art here. Art has been STOLEN and VANDELIZED and the owners cry poverty when any type of reimbursements were asked for. We were treated poorly when it was our art on the walls and brought in many many customers for the restaurant to thrive from during the course of the showing and after. Extremely disappointing. This is posted by artists that currently have shows throughout NYC at other restaurants and galleries, and this place was the WORST. Artists please consider forewarned, and good luck. Cons: STOLEN AND VANDELIZED ART more

Best Food 10/20/2008

Im never disapointed, when coming there really is like being at home. The enviorment is cozy and kind. I enjoy the friendly staff and delious food. I recomend the Chicken Sandwitch and Chocolate Oreo Moose because its to die for. I say you want a night out and a relaxing meal, come here. Pros: Game Room Cons: Crowed Weekends more

Delicious eats, good wine 7/31/2008

I've never been disappointed by this place. The food is always good, definitely order some wine, and the ambiance is lovely both inside and outside. I recommend the steak panini sandwich---it will leave an impression. The service could be better, sometimes you'll have to flag your waiter down just to get his attention or you'll find out too late that the chef never prepared your order...they make mistakes, but in the end they'll make up for it (i.e. free food). I keep coming back, even with all there is to chose from on Smith Street. more

Best Dine and Brunch Ever 6/14/2008

I go to this place all the time, this place is great for dine and it's devine. The food is fantasic and the employese are friendly and not lazy. It really feels like home, and the game room is a blast pool table and classic arcade I recomend everything Dinner and Lunch on the menu. Tell Siman Damaris says hello. Pros: Great Food more

Not a good place to eat or drink 6/10/2008

The wait staff is rude and bumbling and dirty. I can let many things slide; however, I do expect the staff to be clean, the bartender had so much dirt under his nails he must work the day shift at a mine, and his manners matched his appearance, he even managed to mutter something under his breath after my girlfriend asked for another napkin. The food is nothing of interest and overall below average. This place is on Smith St. and so close to so many good places really no reason to chance it. Pros: Location Cons: Service/food more

:) very happy 3/11/2008

Really loved the place, it was small and romantic. We had zuppa di mussels and they were amazing. The sauce was delicious, i would go back just for them alone. the watercress salad was also great. if your looking for a relaxing place that serves great food and drinks this is it. more

Spicy Bloodies and FANTASTIC Service 2/27/2008

As illusive as the grail or a decent man, a good brunch is hard to find. I was pleasantly surprised by the staff and the meal I had at Apartment 138. The atmosphere is very relaxing and cool but not so cool it's too cool and floats over into pretension (This is Cobble Hill, not Williamsburg). I appreciated the hip contemporary music and felt at ease by the bamboo wall. I loved the exposed brick and the aged wood tables. On the way out, I noticed a sign for a game room on the floor below and hope to make use of it on my next visit. The host was friendly and very accommodating with out SUV sized baby carriage. OK, wait for it, here's the piece de resistance, the complimentary drink actually had alcohol in it. I know, it's crazy. Not watered down like other restaurants I know. The bartender makes a mean Bloody Mary and refreshing Mojito. The spicy Margaritas are no joke which my husband can attest too. The server was very warm and attentive. She seemed like she actually cared. We had the burger and the Benedict and shared the pancakes. All delicious. If you like a relaxed brunch where the alcohol flows and the service is friendly, check Apartment 138. Pros: GREAT SERVICE and atmosphere. Cons: Food was right on the border of taking too long. But the mini muffins held us over while we waited. more

Pretty good place 2/19/2008

I've been here several times for brunch, and also to the game room downstairs, where I had some of the bar food. THe brunch has always been average to above average. The food is pretty good, the portions aren't huge, but that's a plus, bc I always feel satisfied but not stuffed. The omlettes tend to be a bit greasy. The little muffins they serve are sooo good. Service can be a bit slow. The outside deck is very nice, too. The gameroom downstairs is fun, although it feels like you're in someone's stuffy little basement, and since the kitchen is down there, it gets a little cramped with all the staff running in and out with hot plates. The chicken fingers and calamari were very good, as are the drinks. Overall, I'm glad I live nearby and will contiue coming here for brunch, and for drinks and a game of pool. Pros: little muffins, location, games Cons: average brunch, service little slow, gets cramped more

Go here for a killer margarita! 12/1/2007

I had dinner at Apartment 138 with a Brooklyn friend while I was visiting from Seattle. He insisted that I have a taste of his margarita -- it was so tasty that I decided to order my own. The waitress was extremely patient as my friend and I chatted (as opposed to making decisions about dinner), and my burger was excellent. I'll definitely go back the next time I'm in town! Pros: Within walking distance of a cool little neighborhood more

Worst Brunch Location 11/25/2007

I took some out of towners here & I was totally embarassed by how bad the brunch fare was. The huevos rancheros was less than mediocre - the tortillas tasted & had the consistency of card board, the crab burger was greasy & tasteless, the veggie burger tasted old & as if it sat out for too long. When we sent the veggie burger back, the waitress came over & was annoyed that that we didn't like it. We explained that the veggie burger tasted sour & she didn't seem fazed at all by it. The grilled chicken salad that we ordered to replace the burger was wilted & the chicken was rubbery. Truly a real disappointment. Pros: It wasn't busy, so we were able to bring the baby carriage inside. Cons: Awful brunch food. more

Great place for a party! 7/27/2007

I had my birthday party at Apt. 138 and loved it. We ended up having 28 people and took up the whole back deck and it was a wonderful evening. The staff was so helpful and attentive and everyone had a great time. It POURED right before the party- but they quickly mopped up the deck and it was a perfect (July) night. Food was great and the group deals are very reasonable. A good time was had by all. more

great place to socialize 7/19/2007

The food is pretty good, but the drinks are better. It's really a place to go with a group to hang out rather than for fine dining. It's a cool place, and the people who go there tend to want to have a good time without getting hammered. I recommend. more

Apartment 138 is my new favorite Brooklyn restaurant. 3/6/2007

Apartment 138 is my new favorite Brooklyn restaurant. Located convienantly on the F line in Carroll Garden (Bergen stop.) The menu is affordable, the cocktails are wonderful and the food is outrageous. The service is attentive and friendly too. I had the beet salad and the the ribs the first time I went and the second time I had the crabcake burger and the ice cream sandwiches. Both times I also had amazing cocktails. I can't wait to go back and I look fwd to trying everything on the menu. Pros: Affordable Cons: Long wait on a busy night more

Great spot to grab a bite 1/15/2007

Apt 138 has great food, anytime of the day. I have tried many things on the menu, and they are all great. Their vodka lemonade is amazing!! Their service is slow, but in that laid-back way, so I don't mind as long as I'm not in a rush. The space is cute, cozy, and welcoming. This is also a really laid-back place to get at drink. Pros: Food, open late, vodka lemonade, cheap Cons: Laid-back (slow service) more

Best cheap brunch on Smith St 11/4/2006

This is hands down my favorite brunch joint on the Smith/Court strip. $10 gets you coffee, booze and great food. Awesome home fries. Always a waiter ready to pour you more coffee when you need it. I'm kind of happy that the secret's not completely out about this place because it's just about the last place on Smith you can go to for brunch without waiting 45 minutes for a table. Pros: Good coffee, very generous about accommodations for families with kids more

Just Plain Awesome... 4/9/2006

I love this place! It's cheap and tasty, and some of the waiters are really cute. The Bloody Mary I had this weekend was a little too spicy for my liking, but my burger was cooked just right. I've also had the most of the pasta dishes and sandwiches (ok, I go there a lot!) and they have all been really good, too. Pros: food, cute waiters, cheap more

where are the waiters? 4/4/2006

I need to know where my server was.As soon as I was seated my server diasapered and never ask if i wanted something to drink. After i waited 20 min my server came back and ask if i wanted something to drink but to his surprise i had already had my drink since i had to ask the busboy for it.When i wanted a second round my waiter was standing next to the bar eating. The busboy handed me dessert menu and even took my order. Then he handed me my check because my waiter was busy eating again with the other server .When I was leaving my waiter said thank you while he took a skewer out of his mouth. It will be a long time before i give this place a second chance.People if you want to eat on smith street try this place last Pros: inexpensive Cons: bad service more

Ho Hum 3/30/2006

Baddish food, slow, unfriendly service -- why bother? So many good places to go in a few blocks. Pros: bad at bill math Cons: uncomfortable more
