Editorial review from Citysearch 1/23/2014

I've been taking my cats here for years now. It's convenient to me and they seem to know what they are doing. I can't seem to get out of the place without spending $300, but I think that's standard for most vets these days. I like that they have The Tooth Fairy come in. My cats get their teeth cleaned every 6 month by their traveling tech and it's great. more

Please Do NOT Have Your Dog Groomed Here!!!! 6/4/2012

Let me start off by saying that the administrative staff and doctors at this hospital are very nice. The doctors are truly caring and are fantastic at what they do. Our problem was with the groomer that they employ and my rating was based on our problem with the groomer and how the doctors and staff chose to handle it.\r \r In May or June 2011 we took our elderly dog to have her groomed here because Petco would not groom her any more. In her old age, she has become very difficult to groom. We thought that the animal hospital groomer would be better qualified to handle troublesome dogs so we decided to take her there. \r \r To be honest, the haircut she received was awful. She smelled better, but that was about it. The next day I noticed that her left eye was drooping and she seemed very down and depressed. I called my aunt and told her that I thought the groomer had hurt Angel's eye while grooming her. We decided to keep a close watch on her, but by the next day you could tell something wa more

Dr. Nunez supports cruelty 12/17/2009

Dr. Mark Nunez supports the declawing of cats, which is a cruel amputation of their toes. He has gone to city halls all across California to urge city councils not to ban this painful mutilation, even though he claims not to do it too much. more

Mark Nunez is an great vet 12/4/2009

Dr. Nunez really listens, is an excellent vet, and his manner is very genuine and caring. After diagnosing our dog and referring us to a surgeon, Dr. Nunez called us at home twice to follow up and make sure she was doing well.\r \r Before Dr. Nunez, we took our pets to Beverly Oaks Animal Hospital for vaccines and check ups. When one of them got sick and ultimately had to be put down, the concern shown by the Beverly Oaks doctor and her staff ended abruptly when we stopped agreeing to expensive tests.\r \r So we may have found Dr. Nunez by default, but boy are we happy and grateful that we did! He is gentle and truly caring, and his busy staff are friendly and polite. We have confidence in Dr. Nunez' skills and he has been honest and up front with us at every visit. Pros: Quality care, excellent follow-up, honesty Cons: None really except maybe the limited parking. more

Heartbroken 2/14/2009

My two poodles Bambi and Thumper meant the world to me.\r My husband was sick and I stayed with him at the hospital. I needed to kennel my two dogs. After calling around, the animal medical center in Van Nuys said that the could board my two family members (Thumper had Diabetes and was on insulin) for an extended period of time. When I arrived the first thing the very rude upfront staff said was that I had to pay for two weeks in advance. After explaining that no one had told this to me they insisted or they would send me away. Because my husband was going in for cancer surgery I felt I had no choice. After leaving A detailed letter about the care, feeding and medications that were to be given they told me their would be an extra charge. Being retired and on a fixed income I was shocked but agreed to the extra fees.\r A latina Technician came to take Bambi and Thumper.\r It seemed that she was uninterested in listing to my concern?s and did not speak English very well. After giving me th more

Best in class! 1/5/2009

I have been visiting So. California for the holidays for over 10 yrs. Fortunately, my dog Sam has never needed a vet while there... Boy was I happy to have been refered to Dr. Pilch and his staff. These guys are life savers as I see it. I have never been more impressed with their attention to detail and follow up care. Happy to say Sam is home now and without Dr. Pilch and his team the holidays would have not be very joyous. The care was oustanding and I was surprised that the bill was extremely fair if not generous. I would not only highly reccommend Dr. Pilch and his staff to all my so. ca. friends and family, I may just bring Sam back for a check up next holiday trip just to say hello. more

NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE 8/22/2008

I had been using Dr. Pilch for a good 8 years and recommended him to everybody I knew who had pets. He was always very thorough and personable. I had rescued a dog and had the dog for about two years (had the yearly exams, blood work, etc.). Dr. Pilch told me it was very important that my dog have her teeth cleaned because the bacteria could cause heart problems, kidney failure, etc. He said the best way and only way to give her a good cleaning would be under anesthesia. I never doubted him and always did exactly what he recommended for my animals. Had my dogs blood work, x-rays, everything was normal right before the cleaning. I dropped my dog off one morning and later that afternoon Dr. Pilch called me and said he had terrible news - my dog died during this routine teeth cleaning. I have never been able to get over that death though I have since adopted another dog and love this dog so so much. I still think Dr. Pilch is a great vet; however, I believe their technicians may h more

Where's Waldo? 7/26/2008

Due to A family emergency I needed to board my cat for two weeks. Waldo is a 12 year old cat with kidney problems. After paying extra for their cat condo (another word for cage) I dropped Waldo off with instructions that he be fed his own special food twice a day. Thankfully I came home early and I went to pick up waldo. They were quite surprised and nervous that I came in unannounced. They quickly put me into an exam room where Dr Pilch informed me that Waldo had gotten out of his cage and was somewhere in their rafters. I was aghast. How could they lose my cat? Dr Pilch acted as though it wasn?t a big deal. \r After four days Dr Kennedy called and said that they had successfully ?trapped my cat? and that He was ready to come home. After picking up Waldo they returned all of the Special diet food I had left and presented me with A bill that charged me each day for the feeding of my cat. After explaining to the clueless front staff that due to their mistreatment of my cat, more

Cody Died of Parvo 7/12/2008

After an exhaustive back ground check from Pet Orphans (A no kill shelter) my daughter and I finally brought home Cody, a one year old Labrador. Pet Orphans had many veterinary referrals so we decided on Dr Pilch who was close by. After getting a clean bill of health from the doctor I made an appointment for a bath. Dr Pilch said that I could drop Cody off at 7:30 in the morning. \r At 7:30 the next morning I was escorted into their waiting room. After checking in with the receptionist, a middle aged heavy set Hispanic woman came to the waiting area to get Cody. She stated that she was the back staff supervisor. I had noticed a terrible smell in the clinic and she informed me that there were puppies with parvo in the hospital. I asked her if my dog was in any danger and she said no and that their isolation room and bathing room were not in close proximity together. \r The following day Cody seemed depressed and listless. I immediately called to make an appointment.\r The receptionis more

Great Vet!! 7/6/2008

We've been going to the clinic with our standard poodle for 5 years and have had wonderful experiences!! Dr. Kennedy is a fantastic vet. He's so caring and professional -- taking the time to explain his evaluation and treatment options. This is a very professional clinic -- each of their doctors contribute to different areas and strengths; Dr. Viete is one of the top vets in her field. I would not hesitate to recommend the clinic to my best friends -- indeed I have! more

Great animal clinic 6/3/2008

My beginning with Animal Medical Center came about from a referral from a friend who had been using their services for over thirty years. I have found the doctors to be very professional, genuine people, compassionate and willing to talk and answer questions. They really care. The staff is included in showing how much they care. No complaints about the front office either. They have always been curteous and helpful. I have toured the entire facilities and without a doubt it is the most meticulously clean veterinarian center with which I have been associated. Both Dr. Pilch and Dr. Kennedy, Dr. K is my vet, have met my expectations. I highly recommended several friends to them. I thank them for the care they have given to my Norwegian Elkhounds show dogs.\r \r Evelyn S. more

Saving Airzona 6/2/2008

My dog Arizona was diagnosed with a terminal adrenal disease. Fortunately, we were at Animal Medical Center. Everyone seemed as concerned for Arizona as I was. We continued to come to the hospital for treatments. Each time we were greeted by caring people who remembered Arizona's name -- and mine. My friend out lived the prognosis for this disease. I believe the wonderful care we both received during this difficult time contributed to his extended life. I continue to thank the doctors and staff at Animal Medical Center and look forward to one day bringing in a new companion. more

We love our vet! 6/2/2008

I've been with Animal Medical Center for 23 years -- through 5 dogs and 8 cats. I have always been impressed with the high quality of medicine they practice and the caring staff. I wish my doctor was as thorough and caring as Dr. Kennedy! I continue to recommend the doctors to my friends with great confidence. more

Total incompetence 2/18/2008

I brought my dog in to be spayed. After waiting 1 hour to see Dr Pilch, A "technician" (without A license) told me that the doctor was too busy to see me. After insisting to see a doctor before the surgery, Dr Kennedy found a few hurried moments and gave my dog a physcial. He told me everything was fine with her and he would make sure my dog's surgery was the first one done since I was concerned. At 11:30 a.m. I got a call from someone ( not the doctor) insisting I buy all these different procedures while my dog was having surgery, X rays, teeth cleaning, pedicure. It seemed to be all about the money.\r I declined because the doctor had not mentioned it to me.\r At 3:00 Dr pilch called me with some terribe news. My dog had died during the surgery. After speaking with him for about 2 minutes I told him I was going to come down to say good bye. After arriving they hustled me into their treatment room. I found my dog in a urine soaked caged. One of the assistants said they had been to busy more

Great Vets, Great Advice! 5/29/2007

I've been a client of Animal Medical Center for many years and love their personal attention, love of animals and significant insight into my 2 cats and 1 dog. Dr. Pilch is excellent and I refer him to all of my friends! more

Great vets - not great with emergencies 4/3/2007

Dr. Kennedy and the other vets are really nice people who will advise you to get the help of a specialist if it is something (cancer) that they are not well versed in. Their practice and hours are not as customer friendly as they could be. This has led me to change vets... They do usually return calls and that is wonderful. Waiting times in their waiting room can be long! Practice is very clean and cheery. more

Was once my 3 cats Vetanarian 3/20/2007

Dr. Kennedy was my Vet for 2 1/2 years. He is a nice man. Mellow and easy going with my 3 cats and me in room while visit. I spent thousands of dollars at this Clinic and paid in full. He did return all phone calls personally. His staff are most helpful & friendly. I had an emergency one day with my tuxedo cat. I called before coming in. My cat was very sick! Serious breathing problems. I waited 2 hours before my cat was treated. I was charged an extra $5.00 dollars for this emergency. What an awful experience. This cat has "Kidney Disease". I paid a lot of money for the whole set for "Lactated Ringers", tubes, needles, etc. for 1 year. I gave her these drips twice a week. The last 2 visits my cat was seen by his wife "Geri Kennedy". WOW...what a piece of work she is. A complete control freak! Last visit with her, she left the patient room. Came back with photo copies of my cats medical records and told me never to come back. She is no longer working there. Bottom line - it's all about more

My dog collapsed - they sent me away 2/12/2007

My dog collapsed last week and since Animal Medical Center came highly recommended and is close to my house, I rushed him over there, only to find an almost empty waiting room and a receptionist telling me they were too busy to see my dog, after I had just told her that this was an emergency and he had collapsed. She told me it would be better if I went somewhere else.\r I was told the place had great vets, but their front staff is a different story. You never send away an animal in distress! \r Never again! more
