Cristo's > Andy's 5/4/2012

I think the previous reviewer is suffering from an overdose of nostalgia. Andy's used to be the best pizza place in north Raleigh ...a decade ago. Unfortunately, during the last few years before they closed, the place went seriously downhill due to poor management. The food was terrible (burnt pizzas, frozen processed 'chicken' patties for the parm, brown lettuce and rancid dressing in the salad bar) and the dining room was filthy. On several occasions we witnessed the manager being abusive to the servers. I was a little sad, but really wasn't surprised at all when they closed down. \r \r We've been to Cristo's several times since they opened, and each time has been a pleasant experience. Don't hate just because they're the new guys. The pizza and calzones are amazing; the toppings are fresh and nothing is overcooked (think juicy pepperoni and bright, crunchy green peppers). The servers are polite, prompt and always seem happy. The interior has been totally redone, and thank the gods, because the '80s-era industrial carpet that Andy's refused to replace had been so saturated with grease, sauce, spilled drinks and other food debris that it squished under your feet. Srsly. I was afraid to wear flip-flops in there. \r \r Please, give Cristo's a decent chance. You'll only need to once, because after that it'll be your go-to place for pizza night. more

New Pizza Place Can't Measure Up 12/28/2011

Truly miss the original Andy's Pizza family pizza. We decided to try the new Cristo's (formerly Andy's) last week. What a DISAPPOINTMENT! All of our family members concur: skimped on the sauce on the pizza; sauce had no flavor; pepperoni tasted as though someone dumped a box of salt on it; had to 'search' for the mushrooms we requested; and - all of us had 'digestion' issues after eating the pizza. What a loss for our neighborhood that Andy's is gone. more

AWESOME PIZZA!!! 7/28/2011

So I went to the new Cristo's (formerly Andy's) over the weekend and I have to say it was GREAT! The pizza was awesome, the service was friendly and the place looks so good too! I They even sell pizza by the slice in case you can't eat an entire pie. Great if your just stopping in for lunch by yourself like I was. I would definitely recommend giving them a try! A++++ all the way!\r more

The worst pizza in Raleigh 6/13/2011

I have eaten at Andy's since they first opened. I have not been there in about a year until this month. I ate twice there in June, 2011. The first time this June, the food was awful. There were only a few patrons there at lunch time. I decided to give it one more chance today. Horrible, awful. My wife and I were the only two customers there at 12:30 for lunch. They WILL be out of business very soon. I wish the original owner had never sold to the apparent morons that now own it. more

Get the A/C fixed please! 6/13/2011

We have loved and been loyal customers for over 20 years (my hubby and his family have been going since Andy's first opened) and have celebrated birthdays, graduations, etc... there. Unfor, if the a/c isn't fixed soon, we will be forced to find a new fav pizza place. We took a crowd there saturday night to celebrate, but left as soon as we arrived. Not only is the place hot, but now there is a bad odor inside. Very very sad, especially since we hear the a/c has been broken for a year. I can't imagine how hard it is to be an employee there.... Come on Andys, please get the a/c fixed so can can come enjoy the best pie in town again! The Ale House down the street got alot of our money that night that was intended for Andys. Faithful, but losing interest quickly... more

My New Raleigh Joint 6/1/2010

Since I arrived in Raleigh, I have been looking for a good pizza place. The chains are here but I was hoping to find a real local pizza place. Some have tried to be ""Gourmet"" or ""New York-style"". I'm not looking for anything more than a real pizza served by real people . Andy's is that place for me. The beautiful thing about pizza is that if you go to 100 places you'll get 100 different variations of a single theme. Generally, they're all OK. Andy's makes a wonderful pizza that satisfies my needs , the people there are friendly, and the service is well above average. Pros: Great pizza, great people Cons: None ( that I can detect ) more

A staple in Quail Corners 7/20/2007

I have lived in Raleigh all of my life and Andy's has always been a staple in North Raleigh. They have got great pizza and I go there all of the time. It is great for kids, actually school groups go there and get to make and eat their own pizzas. The staff is always nice and the food is consistent, which is what has kept them there all of this time! This is not a NY pizza place and they do not claim to be! They use great sauce and wonderful cheese. It is just good enough for a local who knows what she wants! Pros: great food, quick service, great for kids Cons: they don't deliver! more

Great crust 7/7/2007

I have been a frequent customer of Andy's for years and have yet to find a pizza in the area with such good crust. However, my recent pizza order I could see that it's not like it used to be (skimpy on the pepperoni and thin crust). Andy's, you are one of the best in the area, please don't try to cut corners! more

Andy's is back! 1/13/2006

It seems that, for a while, the pizza and the service at Andy's were not what they used to be. I have to say, though, that they have improved mightily in both these areas over the past couple of months. Of course, we all miss seeing Andy, and it seemed that it wouldn't be the same without him at the helm, but, for whatever reason, this seems alot like the old Andy's. The pricing is still reasonable and the place is FABULOUS for kids. The only minus is that, when they're busy, you may have to park around the corner. It's located in a shopping center, though, so it's still preferable to downtown when it comes to parking. I would recommend Andy's Pizza any day of the week, especially for a nice, laid-back dinner with the family. Pros: Reasonable price, Quick Service, Friendly more

First time pizza buyer 6/28/2005

Having just moved from NJ, we tried Andy's last week. If this is among the best in the area, we're in trouble. We only got a pie to go, but the rest of the restaurant looked nice and smelled good. The pizza was pretty brutal though. Too much oreganon in the sauce, the sauce tasted canned and the crust was doughy. Plus, it was small. What's up with that? I know, coming from up North, that I maybe expected too much, but we'll be expanding our search for a passable pizza beyond Andy's. We'll probably go back to try the rest of the mun though. more

Andy's Pizza 5/18/2005

I've been going to Andy's for about 20 years. Seems within the past year or so, however that Andy's has really started going downhill. The pizza, which used to ALWAYS be perfect, is now very hit or miss. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's average at best. The service staff also seems to be losing a step. Things just don't seem to run as smooth as they did when Andy was at the helm. more

Best Pizza in Raleigh 10/13/2004

I have been going to Andy's since the late 70's. We used to go there for school field trips, we went there after summer swim meets. Andy was always there tossing the dough and handing out small dough balls to all of the kids. I loved going to Andy's as a child. I still love going there, now, I'm taking my nephews and they get to play with the dough balls- they love it just as much as I did, I just regret that Andy is no longer there to greet the kids when they walk in the door. The pizza rocks! Pros: Inexpensive, Delicious Food, Lots of choices more

The Best 11/19/2002

I have been going to Andy's since the late 70's. I am one of the few people who actually grew up in Raleigh. Andy's is still my favorite pizza place in NC. I remember when Andy was alive and you could actually go in there and see him tossing dough in the kitchen. He treated us high school kids great when we came in for the lunch buffet. The menu has changed some since his death but you can still count on three constants: The Andy's Special, meatball sub, and submarine sandwich. All worth their weight in gold. Yeah, I'm a big Andy's fan and for those that never saw Andy in there working, you missed a really special guy. more

Andy's should rank up in the top five of the best pizza places in Raleigh. They have the freshest ingredients in town. Pros: cheap, taste, friendly Cons: poor parking more

Yum 7/12/2002

And's has always been a favorite. Only down-side is that sometimes I feel like I am being rushed to order and eat. Other than that, the pizza is great! more
