A taste of Paris in RIver Oaks, remarkably inexpensive! 3/31/2010

I have to admit I have a bit of a soft spot for Andre Thierry. It was the first true bakery I discovered in Houston and as such it will always have a warm place in heart. I had all but given hope of finding a place where I could just walk in and order a flavorful pastry coupled with a great cup of coffee. But one fateful day, I saw the french sounding name and expected the worst when the time came to pay for the two ham and cheese croissants, the almond croissant, and the chocolate mousse I ordered. Nevertheless, I was surprised when the total came out to under 10 dollars. The pastries made satisfied us in the way that the magical, endorphin producing, pairing of dough and cheese only can. The almond croissant was equally good, and the mousse was superb. We quickly became hooked, going often and enjoying the fresh made pastries time after time. Until one day, we came for the first time,, to eat inside. The service was spotty at best, and they took half an hour to serve a couple of croissants and coffee from the counter to the table. The pastries were still amazing, but the experience left a bit of a bitter taste in our mouths. All in all, stick to the counter and come away with a smile, pastries are best enjoyed during a picnic in a park anyways. more

I'll take everything on the tray..please 12/9/2009

While it is true that the desserts are out of this world, I also love the crab cake sandwich (hard to find any where else). The crepes are great as well! They have beautiful gingerbread houses and other specialty items around the holidays that really make this place unique. Pros: beautiful holiday goodies Cons: wish it were open on Sundays more

My absolute favorite breakfast in Houston! 11/2/2009

** I have only been at the location in uptown park ** Houston has a real gem in a sea of chain prepared foods. It has the authentic feel of a french cafe from environment to all the flavors that enter your mouth. Sure it may be tight inside the restaurant, but that's what it's really like in Paris. Their coffee is unmatched when I think of all the coffee shops I've ever been to in Houston. I bring all my out-of-town friends here when I really want to make them have a great impression of Houston. It really is that good. Pros: Authentic french breakfast, houston's best coffee, pastries Cons: Only two locations more

Great food, service - not so much 7/31/2009

My co-workers turned me onto Andre's for lunch. The crab cake salad is my favorite, but I've enjoyed everything I've eaten there. The desserts are wonderful!\r \r However, the service is horrid. The wait staff is generally rude - don't know if it's because they're so busy or if it's a requirement! I only keep returning because of the food. Too bad management hasn't stepped in. But for the staff I would've given this restaurant 5 stars. Pros: The food is good - can't even describe the desserts Cons: Service is awful more

Disappointed 3/11/2009

My family has been ordering cakes from Andre's for over 25 years and have never been so disappointed. The new ownership has destroyed what once made Andre's one of the best bakeries in town. We ordered a cake for my engagement party and it was very disappointing. I was quoted a price and left the bakery only to get a phone call 20 minutes later adding $20 to the bill because the cake was being baked in a heart shaped pan. The frosting was rock hard and thicker than the cake. The cake itself was dry. Needless to say we'll not be ordering cake from them again. \r more
