OVERPRICED, rude bartenders, stalking waitresses almost FORCING YOU to buy drinks, and it was just a Tuesday night for heaven's sake! \r \r One hour of snooker play could easily cost some $50 for a group of 4-5, DRINKS EXCLUDED! $8 for a local beer?! The fool and his money.. \r \r I felt I was totally ripped off, but it might not be too late for you. \r \r Story made short: We were 5 people.. 3 of us couldn't care less about the game, much less touch the cue. They just sat at the counter, ordered a couple of beers having a basic chit chat after work, watching me and my buddy play. \r \r After 42 minutes of playing at One table, The bill came out at an outrageous $112.50.\r I asked politely: Pardon me, but could you explain my bill to me. I feel it's more expensive than I thought. \r Bartender said he had never had anyone questioning his bill before.\r \r I said OK let's make this a first but what was the charge for? He said the rates are $9.5 per person and you're 5 people. Total is $47.50 for play alone. \r \r I said.. Okay but only 2 people played. The waitress is my witness u could ask her.. He went on saying: I don't care whether your other buddies play or not. These are the RULES, If they don't wanna play, they should just sit at the bar here and order drinks, NOT be with you at the Billiards table! \r \r then he engaged in a discussion with another customer, totally ignoring me. \r \r Total loss: $112.50, low service, urine-hot beer, and a sickening attitude from a bartender who derives his ethics from reality show contestants.. \r \r You learn the hard way. \r NEVER again.. \r You wanna play Billiards? There are gazillion other places in the city that charge per table, not person! Do your homework. Don't fall for their SCAM like I did :( \r more

I recently had a surprise bday party for my fiancé here and over all my guests and fiancé had a good time. The location is good and the atmosphere here is nice. However, being the one planning the party is a whole other story. The manager Greg Hunt was extremely unprofessional and not accommodating whatsoever. If I wasn't in crunch time to find a location I would have NEVER given him my business. His event coordinator Luciene was very pleasant. Dan (I believe was his name) at the front desk was also pretty unpleasant. You'd think spending over $1K (not including what we spent on alcoholic drinks) the staff would be a little nicer. The price of the tables was reasonable however the cost of food there was astronomical and the quality was TERRIBLE. I ordered mini-burger sliders, pizza, quesadillas and buffalo wings for a group of 25. The bread on the burgers was stale, the meat over cooked/dry, the pizza was dry with no flavor, the quesadillas were cold and the wings were boneless, not what I ordered.\r \r The area they set up for our party was spacious and again overall my guests enjoyed themselves. If I had to rate purely on professionalism and quality of customer service I received, they'd get ZERO stars from me. Pros: Good Location - Spacious for a party Cons: Unprofessional Management, Staff - Terrible Food more

prominent place for playing pool 7/24/2009

Amsterdam is a superior pool hall with great service and selection. Even though there are over 25 pool tables, there are other fun things to do. They have pinball machines, darts, foosball and a newly added beer pong table. Amsterdam has a full bar with some pretty interesting drinks that include unique ingredients such as lemongrass, ginger, mint, guava, watermelon and lychee. Overall, great place to become a regular! Pros: great priced pool; free darts, beer pong and darts more

Awesome drinks & Pool Pros! 7/21/2009

Had a great time @ Amsterdam Billiards last week\r ...Jeanette 'Black Widow' Lee was hanging out on the front table as was the guy from 'GoodFellas' Paul Sorvino and the ""I see dead people"" kid from 'The Sixth Sense' movie playing ping pong in the back!\r \r I usually only drink Beam bourbon but the new Watson cocktail was pretty damn tasty i must admit!\r \r Nice setup of tables and seemingly always chock full 'o players...#1 player Mika Immonen is seen here frequently...maybe i'll play him next time...lol. \r Pros: Hott Bartenders and cocktail servers! Cons: none unless you're used to hustler dive bars... more

Great place for lots of drinking and fun! 7/20/2009

Great deals for pool. Lots to do: ping pong, pin ball, foosball table, darts, etc... Great bartenders, friendly waitresses. Overall great experience. Will definitely be back! Pros: Lots of entertainment. Lots of drinks. Lots of fun. more

Killer hang-out 5/2/2009

The service used to be dissapointing here. The bartenders used to take my drink before I was finished and never seemed to be in a good mood. They've gotten new staff and now the service is awsome. There's lots of games to entertain yourself with while you wait for a table too. My personal fav. is the fusbol and darts. Did I happen to mention the bartenders are hot too! Pros: Friendly service Cons: No Draft specials more

My Home Pool Hall 4/28/2009

Love this Place. After the construction, it looks better. Always had a table available. Maximum wait time was 10 minutes in a busy night. Always waitress staff available. Waitress(es) never failed to smile. It's just 1 day I was forced to show ID when I wasn't going to drink. B/c they do allow guests under 21. But all other problems were fixed. Looking forward to have a ball. ""The 8 all is mine"". Pros: Great place Great Rate Cons: Showing ID @ entrance more

Best D**n Pool Hall, Period 4/27/2009

Every time my friends and I go to Amsterdam Billiards (which is pretty often), they make us feel right at home. The staff are lovely, lively and engaging, and they know how to make good customers feel welcome. It's almost as much fun to watch their lineup of resident professional world-class pool players as it is to play on one of their many well-conditioned full-size tables. As a pool player, I would not consider going anywhere else in the city. Pros: Best pool players, upscale atmosphere, friendly environment Cons: Choice of background music more

Best Tables in NYC! 4/13/2009

Amsterdam has the best tables in the city, by far. This is why you can go there ans see some of the best players in the world. Their staff is always helpful and they have a great ambience. I have taken clients, gone with large groups for birthdays and on laidback nights out with my boyfriend. We always have a great time. They just started to a ladies night on Wednesday with 2-for-1 drinks. Can't beat it! Pros: Ladies night & $29 a table for the whole night more

Overpriced and arrogant!!!!! 2/12/2009

I played at their previous location and thought it was ok. Now it is extremely pricey and very poorly run unless you are one of their ""favorites"". i was playing by myself and had a person come up and tell me I had to get off the table without any previous warning. i then proceeded to check out and found out i was being charged for TWO people and was never told this!!!!! Unbelievable. I later found out that the person who kicked me off was the owner, Greg. I have taken my business elsewhere since and won't return. Also, the tables are not in that great of shape, need some t.l.c. Pros: good players Cons: bad management, prices more

Sour Bartender Service 11/16/2008

Amsterdam Billiards is a beautiful place, but the service is the worst I've ever encountered in NYC. The bartender was was rude & incompetent. Although there were only 6 people at the bar she was overwhelmed and very hissy towards us. We merely wanted to place a drink order, to go along with the food order that she just took from us (that she never placed to the kitchen). We were supposed to meet other people here but opted to walk out. \r \r This bartender, working the Saturday night shift at 8:30pm might be happier at a job euthanizing shelter dogs. If this is their Saturday night staff line up, I can't imagine how they run this place. We're never going back. more

Overpriced, terrible waitress service. 10/29/2008

Been going here for years. They remodeled corner billiards but didn't bother updating the felt on most of hte tables. It says here that you can rent a table for $26 and have it for the whole night... never had that offered to me when I was there. Always very very pricy. The waitresses are impossible to find when you're thirsty, until you try and order from the bartender at which point they'll chew you out for not ordering from them. Unfortunately not a lot of other options in the area. Pros: Plenty of tables, but that's about it. Cons: Terrible waitress service, overpriced. more

Best Pool Room in the Nation 1/18/2008

This pool room has it all:\r Great leagues, great scene, great drink prices, great staff. I especially like the fact that they incorporate so many different things to do while you're there. I have been to many rooms across the nation and overseas and this one always comes up in conversations. They're world famous! You also have a chance to meet pro ball players, pro pool players, and other celebrities if you go. Pros: tables and atmosphere Cons: parking more

Great place to hang out, grab some drinks, shoot some pool 1/18/2008

Don't be misled by the last review. Obviously the person is with Eastside Billiards. They recommend going to Eastside or Slate yet they slam Slate as well. Kinda fishy if you ask me.\r \r Amsterdam Billiards is a fun place to be. Prices are reasonable, staff is friendly and the place itself is awesome. I've been there on a regular night and to a coupld of corporate events and I always have a fun time. Plus there's always a chance of a celebrity or professional player sighting. Who wouldn't want to shoot where the pros go. Hey and if you're not a pool player you can always chill at the bar, throw some darts or play a little ping pong. There's even a little lounge area where you can just relax with you're friends and watch the games on tv.\r \r I love it there and I highly recommend it. Check it out for yourself - you can be the judge. Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

Best pool room ever 9/4/2007

I have been playing pool for more than half of my life. Being a professional pool player has brought me to every continent and thousands of pool rooms on the planet. I truly believe that Amsterdam Billiards in New York City is the best pool room in the world. I never felt so comfortable anywhere else. The warm upscale ambiance, the best equipment in the industry but mostly the ""Amsterdam People"" make this room so special and enjoyable to me. Go there, play pool, have a drink, make friends and become a part of the family !\r \r Thorsten Hohmann\r World Pool Billiards Champion Pros: Great people, upscale atmosphere, best equipment, super location more

Not only a pool hall, a great place to hang out after work! 8/31/2007

I work a few blocks away in Union Square and come to Amsterdam Billiards all the time for some rest & relaxation. Good drinks and good times. Some of us play pool but for those of us that don't, the tvs, the space and atmosphere are more than enough to do the job on any night of the week! We love coming so much we are having our corporate party here next month. Pros: Service, Atmosphere, Space and Pool Tables more

My favorite pool hall!!! 8/29/2007

Either to have fun, to find some action (of any kind), or just play a serious game. This is the place. Besides all that, the mixed drinks are awesome, you have to try the ""teatini"", a martini made with Black tea fresh lemon and vodka...wow!!! You are certainly going to ask for one more. \r The staff itself are known for being a blend of American beauties or Exotic foreigners, such as Brazilians, Mexicans, Hawaians etc.\r Go ahead and check it out! more

I'VE BEEN TO DOZENS OF POOL HALLS OVER THE YEARS AND AMSTERDAM IS THE BEST. I ALSO HAD A PRIVATE PARTY THERE ONCE WITH MY COMPANY AND IT WAS GREAT. Pros: BEST POOL HALL IN NEW YORK, GREAT BAR SCENE more
